Imagine being so triggered by someone wearing a little piece of cloth over their face that you flat-out refuse their business. You believe masks don't work, OK fine you can stand there and be wrong in your wrongness, but you've allowed yourself to become so politically polarized by it that you'll double down and take a financial loss over it.

The average American has a toxic aversion to admitting they are wrong about anything, even when presented with confirmed evidence that refutes their beliefs.

Do you even have a confirmation or a real lived experience that this has happened or are you just going off of the anecdotal example the gimp above is reporting off of the “tubes.”

#Covidians

Remeber Covid is not a religion.

It isn't about empathy...it is about the fact that Americans have a weird egocentric nature that doesn't allow them to admit they are wrong. We aren't alone, but if you look it is often the precursor to the very declines in society and democracy we are seeing now. Since 9/11 it has been thrown into overdrive.

I was trying to point out that most Americans have enough empathy to not worry if someone else wants to wear a mask. By most, I mean just over 50%. For the rest- I would say probably another 10% would roll their eyes, but not mention it, another 10% would mention it, but then allow it. The next 10% would complain about it, mocking the person wearing it. And the last 20% would be militant and kick you off the grounds.

And I would have a tough time for empathy towards the lost businesses. Just like I can't really have empathy toward those who complain about companies requiring vaccines and/or masks and then complain about regulations. Worse are the ones who try to make themselves martyrs.

So Saturday was a day of feeling exceptionally hot all day. I was wearing my hoodie, and would have to take it off due to sweating. Yesterday I was feeling chills all day, and through the night, where I had on a sweatshirt and a thick blanket and still shivering, where I was coughing all day, couldn't smell much of anything because my nose was stuffed up. Today I'm back at an equilibrium, or sorts, where my nose is in the same state, as is the cough. The headaches are pretty much a constant.

My wife hasn't gone through the chills, but she can't taste anything now, and I think her smell is greatly diminished, too, if not gone. It's a good thing both she and I are triple-jabbed because I wouldn't want to go through this "lesser strain" without at least some protection.

We don't know how all it's impacting our 2yo daughter, but her appetite isn't great, and she's been fussier than normal.

Fun times to be had by all.

Pain killers and NyQuil for meds. Lots of liquids because I’m constantly thirsty and fee like I’m on the verge of dehydration.
The biggest thing is trying to stay hydrated or else your cough can get worse, at least that’s how it was for me.

I know you’re sick and perhaps have little appetite- but do you have a functioning GI system when you eat?

this thing may have really mutated a lot- GI implosion seemed so common with the early variant my family had

Me and my family's GI systems seem to be in working order. Things aren't as soft as normal, but that's due to the verge of dehydration, I'd think.

Yeah, I need to remember that and just keep drinking more. I've just now come in from shoveling my driveway, and the cough has definitely been more prevalent.

Hospitalizations and positivity rate continue to fall to pre-omicron levels in MA, and hopefully soon will be somewhere near pre-Delta levels. I kind of feel like, here, if you're vaccinated and boosted and don't have a young child or immunocompromised person at home, things are not too bad for you. Most of our mask mandates are coming down between today and the end of the month, and while I think I'll be wearing mine for the foreseeable future, I wonder about the utility of fighting that particular battle.

Yet there were still over 2300 cases yesterday. They did say on the news this morning the positivity rate is under 5% I want to see it under 2% before I'll feel comfortable.

It's under 3, actually, on the rolling 7-day average. Which is great! At this point, the key indicators are positivity rate and hospitalizations, and both are plummeting along with case counts.

Not that I question or judge your personal risk decisions (far be it from me, obviously), but between vaccines substantially reducing severity and the newer treatments like paxlovid and the newer mAb therapies, I feel like those of us vaxxed/boosted have relatively low risk outside the caveats I mentioned.
