Well then, wait through winter high risk period and then unmask with the warmer weather. Aint gonna kill anyone. Quite the converse.

We are already through the high risk period in many places. Positivity percentages are dropping and hospital admissions are slowing. There is never going to be the perfect time. The Dems promised that restrictions will ease when the numbers started to wane and that is what is happening.

Just because masks aren't mandated doesn't mean you can't wear one. I still do most places.

Even Fauci is starting to say we are approaching normality.

Juvenile diabetes, like so many immune disorders in kids (Crohn's, Addison's, MS, POTS, Celiac, Psoriasis) used to be relatively rare.

These disorders have exploded since the 1990s what has happened since then impacting so many kids immune systems?

You advocated for human rights violations, discrimination, and state aggression against innocent people mere months ago. You can't sit here.

Hilarious watching these demons trying to switch sides now.

Yes. "Approaching."

The extroverts can wait a couple more months before spittling away to one another at T.G.I.F. about "Ow My Balls." It aint gonna kill them.

Yeah, been there, done that, twice now. And then things went to shit again.

Lets just do the same thing one more time, maybe this time it'll be different.

February vacation is coming up here in MA. Some people want to keep the mandate in place till the vacation week is over and I don’t blame them. I envision a spike here afterwards. Maybe not as bad, but a spike nonetheless. I continue to wear my mask when I go, still sometimes double masking. I could care less what people think.

This is how I think, too- just like each summer that we've had this, where there wasn't a large break out of a variant.

The issue of the later breakthroughs have been new variants, not masking. The real problem with the rules is that they have been changing a lot- which has confused a lot of people. IMHO, that last part is the result of nobody caring about education, and the constant refrain that this isn't a big deal- aka people like jebbers. If people paid attention, they would know that each return of the rules came when a new variant took over and made a mess of things.

If the message to the public had been- "be ready to return to restrictions when new variants show their potential" and a constant pounding of that, we'd be a lot better. To the point that even with the lifting of the mask requirements, more people would use them.

It's also interesting how few people have apparently noticed that the colds and flu's they have gotten over the last 2 years have been fewer- the result of distancing and masking. I've met plenty of people who intend to wear masks for a long time, as they've really enjoyed not suffering with a cold.

Short of a new variant I don't see a "spike" at all. Perhaps a slight bump/increase/plateau. The fact is, there is virtually no one in MA without some level of immunity anymore.

We're at a point where case counts and even rates/100k are much less meaningful than they were. Hospitalizations, positivity rate. Those are likely our key indicators.

The one time...the ONE FUCKING time I let my guard down in almost two years....Wednesday night I went to see my next door neighbor to talk about when she redid her kitchen. I figured maybe I could start little by little not wearing a mask in certain instances and then she messages me this morning to tell me she tested positive. JFC. I'm so annoyed and mad at myself. I have not left my apartment without a mask this entire time. Why did I do that on Wednesday??? Thankfully I have at home tests. Will need to take one tomorrow morning as I was planning to go food shopping and out to dinner tomorrow night. /vent

Ugh.

FYI - this is going to happen to all of us, likely many times. It's super frustrating but it's life in a time of plague.

The vaccines are good! You'll be ok. Hopefully you don't even contract it.

If you're boosted, not immunocompromised, and under 70, a short exposure is probably not a BFD. If you sat next to someone who was positive for several hours, like my fiance unwittingly did, then odds are you're probably going to get it, but it will be a mild case requiring a couple days of rest and no hospitalization. I only picked it up after being exposed to her for days and my case was very mild, even compared to hers - just a scratchy throat in the mornings, some congestion, and some fatigue.

I am boosted. I'm not immunocompromised. I am under 70. I think my chances are getting it are probably 50/50. I was in her apartment for about an hour. Granted, we weren't super close to each other but there were a few moments we were less than 6' apart. If that even means anything these days. Getting with it and dealing with it are two separate things. I'd like to think that if I did get it that it would be pretty mild (fingers crossed). It's just now I feel I need to isolate. I have errands I was planning to do tomorrow, plus dinner with a friend. I was thinking of going to a Super Bowl party on Sunday. And I was thinking about going to the Beanpot Monday night. Now, that's all off the table, with the exception of a quick trip to the supermarket double masked if my at home test tomorrow is negative.

I'm sorry for all of that. You are an incredibly responsible person and I commend you for it.

(no sarcasm! Genuine well-wishes)

And it aint gonna kill the introverts if the rest of the world lives their lives. No one is forcing you or your family to go do stuff. Your life doesn't have to change just because everyone else's does. You want to force everyone to live by your standards because you don't feel safe when even the experts aren't saying that is needed.

This is ridiculous...you are literally turning into what the crazies say we are.

So why not just keep the mandates for a few more weeks, and maybe not have to worry about a new variant emerging?

Every time cases start falling, and Hospitilizations and deaths start decreasing, we jump the gun to start ending all restrictions, and then we're right back in the shit again.

No patience. There's no patience in anything anymore.

Yeah cause this is the same as it was before. Just ignore the facts they don't matter in this case.

It is amazing how little people remember about how this all began. What the prevailing opinion was and how we are basically living it. It was always going to be rolling mandates based on flare ups because of how politicized this became. We were never supposed to be under restriction forever because this was never going to fully go away. We talked about it around here back during the original shelter in place. Variants were going to happen and things would change based on that.

The only time we will ever be close to 100% safe is when either all the unvaxxed are dead or everyone is vaxxed. That is never happening. So when exactly is it ok for us to not be mandated?

And again, just because mandates aren't in place doesn't mean you don't get to wear a mask or get shots. No (non-crazy) business is going to prevent it, no city is going to outlaw it. You can still live under the same precautions if you so choose (I do) and you are just as safe as you were before. Let's not pretend most businesses kicked people out for not masking up so it wasn't like we had anywhere close to 100% buy in anyways.

Even leaving out the political ramifications (which would be bad for our side) because they aren't important we did what we were supposed to do. The numbers are falling. People were promised that when things got to where they are we could start to get rid of the restrictions. If we keep moving the goalposts it isn't going to make this safer because less and less people will buy in.

I am not saying the US should open fully up...but Minneapolis and Saint Paul only put in a short term policy for a reason and once the numbers fell they always were going to roll it back. They are honoring the spirit of the mandate they put in place. That is how this is supposed to work.

That makes a lot of sense. And I love when people give me a double look for masking up. Fuck them I like not getting sick.

That is what happened to me (although they came to my house) and thankfully we didn't get it. Fingers crossed.
