the sad part is that article needed to be written at all. That we are expected to just accept increasing cases because "deaths are down" when other countries have almost eliminated new cases.

Why? Because politics. Just because we have a leader that can't admit that he's wrong, or that things he is doing isn't working- we are stuck in an area where the blind supporters of him accept whatever he says, no matter how absurd. So since he's gotten tired of dealing with the virus, everything is "go, go, go". As if the economic impact isn't a big deal when we have a bunch of very sick people in the hospital, or that many people will not travel at all because of the lack of response, and then we have people that are trying to force us to pretend this isn't a big deal.

I really hate where we have gotten, and many of my fellow citizens really embarrass me, and even make me feel shame that we just can't give a crap about people. On another board, I was accused of being polarizing since I thought it was sad that we are being told to accept death for the sake of the economy. Even when someone directly said that's what he wants to do.

jeb- these are preventable deaths. these are preventable hospitalizations (which costs money), this is preventable worker lack of productivity (they are sick). It's amazing that you can't see that it will cost WAY more money in the long run than if we actually prevent further spread of it. All of this can be preventable. We spend money preventing fewer deaths per year, for crying out loud. But you are just too stupid to accept that, apparently.

people like you make me ashamed of being an American. good job.

What a pathetic rant completely void of any reason or coherent point.

are you done blabbering?

I am sure Khaki McSleepover is none too pleased about that after his comments the other day about COVID.

I say we not at even money the seasons are scrapped...

Third day in a row that deaths are above 800.

So now whalers has to pivot from his "but the deaths are falling, you people are just a bunch of 'fraidy idiots" to "but those numbers are compiled from over a number of days, you people are a bunch of 'fraidy idiots".

Like the numbers before, when they were lower, weren't also compiled over a number of days.

Honestly don’t understand their numbers. It seems like every day there are 200 new cases and 30 deaths. That might make sense for a week or two but not a month plus.

You have the parts of the State that get it and the parts that are blood red and really stupid. My town is back up to adding double digit numbers and we are not a big town. And people who are related to the person who is our DPH nurse are posting on FB about how it is all a hoax. Yeah. We are not going out anywhere, anytime soon

The reason I've been questioning the decline is that numbers have been constantly being adjusted. For the week current testing two weeks ago, IIRC, the daily deaths were in the single digits. And I've been pointing out that they have been adjusted up constantly. So now, two weeks ago, there are two days were the daily death count in Florida exceeded 50- 6/22-23. And another day from a week later is now pushing 50. Which would mean yesterday's 15 will probably end up in the 60's in a week or two.

Given the constant adjustments- how can anyone conclude that the deaths are continuing to decline? Even on a national basis, they were flat for a little while. But they had certainly not been approaching 0.

So if that 800 is the reported deaths that happened today, then the real number will likely be a lot more. Or is that the number that's been added to the tally from previous weeks, too?

Back from rural Maine. After living in the MA county with the mostest of everything, that was a whole different world. People there have barely been touched by this whole thing if at all. We had a problem at the house and needed to call someone to look at it. We know this guy since he was a little person. He was fairly lackadaisical when he said he was coming. We were careful to stay the appropriate distance. We get talking and he is expressing that other than things closing which has increased his business he hadn't experienced much change or thought about it.

So I asked if he knew anyone who had it or died. He had to stop and think. He had an acquaintance that had an extended family member who had it and was in the hospital but didn't know anyone who had died or got really sick. They had someone on his crew who had a family member test positive that morning and they were taken aback and trying to figure out what it meant for them other than the guy stayed home so he could be tested.

Really goes to show you how experiences are different. He asked us if we knew anyone and was shocked with the reply- so far we know a couple of folk who were hospitalized, 4 people we know who died and a number who have been sick for a long time (that wasn't including the place I taught clinical- they were a slaughterhouse and lost staff and I didn't even mention them). Only know 2 people who are back to themselves. The guy was blown away. He just can't fathom that much disease in one place. (Our county has 5 times the deaths his whole state has).

one of my family members made a comment that you would have to be stupid to not get it- completely forgetting I warned him very early March it was going to be this bad and he is still saying he can't believe it got this bad- because how can you not understand the news? I really think it has to be in your face to feel real. To be able to imagine it if you don't have the knowledge base is a stretch.

But that's Florida, and everyone knows they're being hinky with their numbers.

Probably a bunch of other red states also, so when this gets real bad, their numbers might become eye-openers.

61k new cases and 946 deaths...up again from yesterday. Cali lead the way with 137 deaths, Flo(R)ida next with 119, NJ with 106 and Texas with 102.

Texas added over 11k cases on their own.

Definitely NOT pathetic. You're just like Dump. You accuse everyone of being exactly the way you are. Nothing but projection. Actually, it was extremely well written and goes to the heart of why we are where we are in relation to this pathetic situation. The fact you can't see that is a sad commentary on you. Actually, deep, deep ,deep down inside I think you know all of these things are true and, you're just too pitifully weak to admit your party is the reason the country is where it is.

COVID is a government created crisis not an epidemic. IL, MA, MI, NJ, NY, PA governors forced nursing homes to accept sick, resulting in mass death. In the rest of the US, without these insane policies, COVID barely crosses CDC epidemic threshold of 7.2% of weekly deaths.

You might want to review the NY numbers, and how effective the response has been here (so far).

Or, you might be more interested in defending The Moron in Chief, who has fanned the flames of this surge for the sake of his political gain.

I'm guessing "B".

The heart of why we are where we are is because we are an extremely unhealthy, obese country.

I don’t have a party.

but you make sure to vote your little heart out in the Fall. Your political gods will save you. Utopias everywhere, Chicago, Baltimore, Minneapolis, NYC, Seattle. Lol

New York has 32k deaths about a quarter of the entire country.

Why does anyone engage Jeb? At least Hovey gives it an honest go, but this Jeb jagoff is 100% over the rainbow.

He's the guy that you cringe over when checking into a hotel in Paris- as he fits the stereotype of why most in other countries hate Americans. They will never see that they are wrong, and even with slight chance that they do- they will not only never admit it, they will double down on their beliefs. Like right now, when the numbers of open states have just skyrocketed, they blame the wrong reasons to fit their narrative.

And just as bad, they can't accept answers and data from anyone but them- so EVERY SINGLE OTHER COUNTY that has successfully dealt with this, and is now safely turning back on does not count. Or that it somehow counts as negative data- which I don't get. How is it that other countries that have dealt with this don't count? S Korea has closer relations to China than we do- since they are very local trading partners, and they have less cases than small states in the US. The EU has leveled cases, and is now opening back up- and they are just as land locked, have more people, and have a TON of their population living very close to each other- including in the ancient tiny towns. That example of dealing with it does not count.

That's even separate from their fear of science and data.

people like jeb are just greedy nationalists who are happy to sacrifice others so that they can make money.

So many other nations have this under control that the idiot republicans can’t even cry about how “we’re not New Zealand dummies” anymore. All kinds of nations with varying densities and geographies have figured it out. What do they have in common? No GOP leadership
