I know we are never supposed to root for harm. But.

New York State Police, however, report a drop in speeding tickets in New York City,

State troopers checking their speed guns not wanting to risk catching coronavirus:

Oh goody. The d-1 posters have infected our two threads.

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

That's fu**ing cold. And a really far away date (that's still three months away).

I know. But I’m 99% sure that’s what they’re going to do. Because the original email said we shouldn’t tell anyone about the vacation until earnings call. You can’t email something companywide and say it’s privileged. There is a 99% chance it was forwarded within 10 seconds.

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

Just report anyone who ruins the thread.

So I just realized something. My company mandated we take 50% of our vacation by June 30th this year. Weird date, but more on that in a second, you'll probably see where this is going. We get our vacation allotted in full at the beginning of the year but also can't carry any over. My company also prorates vacation if you start later in the year. I just remembered that they also prorate upon severance. So going back to that June 30th date, I'm almost certain layoffs will occur on or plus/minus a week of that date. And there is going to be a lot of them. So now, since we've taken half our vacation, the company doesn't have to pay a ****ing dime of accrued vacation if they terminate you. ****ing ghouls these people.

?

My company is just slashing. Pretty sure I’m not employed in two weeks

Gpl is letting the tin hatter go on. Their own fault, so stupid that they can’t ban people for some reason. He’s challenging walz order so far today

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

I missed the briefing....did someone ask him if he was going to pardon Joe Exotic?

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

This. Seriously, this.

I only pop in there a couple of times a week to troll.
I aoid those threads like the plague. You only have so many minutes in a day. Not worth wasting on people who would drink koolaid on their last breath

I would like to see maybe restaurants/etc having an (x) capacity, say 50 people (I dunno, just throwing out a number) to be open. It keeps the crowds small, and helps small businesses.....

Something I don't see anything about- you socially distance the diners, patrons, etc of a business but you have them all dealing with the same employees who are rarely given adequate protection, would need to change protection or at least wash hands, etc between people and many of whom cannot afford to stay out if sick unless they are on death's door.

Went to a big box hardware store the other day- was supposed to have curbside pick up but didn't. There was an entire crew behind the Service desk, all tight together, no attempts to stay apart from each other, not using PPE masks around necks, gloves in pockets. No cleaning anything when dealing with customers- contamination everywhere*. No interest in even being careful. Until you figure that out- things aren't going well. John Q Public sort of tries until they are tired of playing Pandemic and then they decide its too much work and this time won't count. Have a family member who works in medicine, knows how to do it right but it was aggravating so gave up and went mask-less. The words I just, but just this time, I only are killing people. Americans are spoiled brats who don't think anyone should expect them to maintain this level of care. The virus is saying, "hold my beer, b1tch"

*True confessions- taught Nursing Fundamentals lab and clinical. Stuff like how to mask, glove, gown and how to take it off. The students at least understand the concept of cross contamination the need to take care and are paranoid they will do something wrong and either hurt someone or catch something.

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

If the CDC’s new R0 figures hold up and the CFR holds up, this would be a potentially far more dangerous virus than the 1918 flu

Re: Covfefe-19 part 6: Waiting For Advice from Kid Rock and Tiger Woods now.

Let's send your family out there to check for land mines. If nothing happens, then expand a little.

It's not difficult to understand if you have even a scintilla of empathy.

I'm willing to go out there. Wait, I'm already out there, as an essential employee. At some point someone has to make the call. At some point, we continue on, cautiously, VERY cautiously, but we go on.

Gosh, you’re SOOOO right, Rube! Until I read your post, I was 100% convinced that we would all need to shelter in place forever and ever, but now I have seen the light. We WILL have to continue on and reopen the economy some day! Thank you for this stupendous insight! Do you have a newsletter that I can subscribe to?

::rolleyes::

I'm no epidemiologist, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think an adjustment in the r0 value is accompanied by a decrease in the true mortality of the disease (ie the r0 increase is caused by the presence of more minor cases). I don't know if that makes the disease deadlier or not, or what the "sweet spot" is for most deaths between contagion and mortality, but I don't think it fundamentally changes things on the ground.

You know how a middle finger works? Thanks for your time and energy.

That's why we're still working on highway construction projects here in Illinois. The state DOT and Tollway authority both stressed how our industry is naturally "social distancing" anyway.

*edit* It really surprised me that highway construction wasn't going in Michigan right now. Would be prime time to get stuff done. We're accelerating the opening of the asphalt plants here in Illinois because of this.
We still have road restrictions on - I still have 1.5-2 feet of snow on my yard. Or do you mean downstate?

That's not the point. I'm willing to go out there. And as an essential employee I am out there.

I said somebody you love. Send somebody you love over the wire and into no man's land to test your theory.

I'm willing to risk death. You'd be doing me a favor. But I'm not going to risk people I care for. And somebody cares about the people you are experimenting with. So, let's just have it be your family. And not you -- I insist you stay back safe. I want you to live a long, long life with whatever guilt you suffer.

Macho people cause 99% of the pain in the world. I wish they were the ones to suffer 99% of it.

Yes, downstate. I have a friend who runs a construction company near Muskegon and they're on hold for a few more weeks.

With how quick I saw MDOT take weight restrictions away from downstate the past two weeks, I forgot that the UP was still under the spring thaw restrictions.

Someone, somewhere, is gonna have to pull the trigger, to test. It's going to happen. IF that person suffers, yes, I will feel bad. Horrible. But it's still going to happen at some point. It's not being macho. It's, a "well, here's the thing, we're gonna have to test this sooner or later..."
