I'm resigned that I'm likely to lose my mother over this. Even if she doesn't get Covid-19 she has severe asthma that has flared up and caused two trips to the ER in a week. If that happens next week the hospital isn't going to have the resources to help her. My own immune system isn't the best so if I get it I'm screwed. If it turns into a numbers game like Italy, I'm expendable. But I was supposed to be dead a decade ago, so it's all gravy.

I knew about the asthma thing, my mom (who is in her 70s) is obviously more susceptible. Now I have 2 strikes against me (with the whole handling cardboard boxes for a living, which was previously mentioned).

Again, there is a difference between "panic" and "concerned." I'm in the latter camp, and will remain there.

My dad is 70+ with diabetes...my primary concern. Never been a smoker at least. Despite the fact MA has one of the highest counts I am still thankful to live here when it comes to healthcare. I trust the people running the state.

It is no worse here. In fact in many places it is probably much worse. (and coupled with obesity and diabetes)

You can look at the US like separate countries. Each state has different health and risk #s. Don't go live in the South. The outcomes there are horrid.

Texted a close friend of mine who is also a nurse. She said she's at prime risk for catching it, despite being a healthy 35 year old, because she does have the occasional severe asthma flare up and is on meds to control it. So she's worried about this. And although she is working for a specialist, it's under the regional hospital banner and they could pull nurses to fill in as needed.

In her immediate follow up text she said "It is what it is though. I'm very worried about the elderly patients. I've seen the flu take them out, so it sucks that this is just another thing putting them at risk."

My God are people like her, your friend, and Les, saints for continually putting others in front of themselves.

I am a keyboard warrior occording to lilnotso lil les. I am really scared for my friends. I have friends who have survived cancer and are now at risk from this

But the not at risk people are probably living with and exposed to the at risk people. That’s the whole point- healthy people are spreading it.
