Dr. Osterholm's CIDRAP group at the UofM:

Covid-19 information continually updated, including research publications. Would highly recommend listening to his podcast with Joe Rogan from March 10th. (link on above site).

Yeah, that cidrap has been a wonderful resource. Like, one of the best I’ve come across. I was stunned the U of M put that out. I didn’t know we had such a great dept for things like this. Been a daily visit for me for weeks.

Love that they have accumulated all of the maps and tools. Love that they agglomerate all of the research from the various resources. They are also putting out fantastic original content and research. I’m so proud of my state’s response.

Seeing Minnesota get ahead of the curve, and now Michigan shut down k-12 schools to delay/lessen the spread has been great to see.

Unfortunately, Illinois has lagged behind, but there has been additional cleaning of public spaces to help lessen the spread as well.

I did chuckle when the CTA threw shade at other US Metro public transportation by stating that their "bare minimum" cleaning schedule was actually miles ahead of New York and other east coast transit agencies.

Wow. I’m sure the trump kids are stockpiling ventilators already.

Narrative coming will be that our dear leader beat this because he’s the healthiest president we’ve ever had. Will lead nicely into his narrative that he’ll need more terms as president

Sure. The election being shut down is the next major gathering event that needs to go. We can have an election when things are back to normal with Coronavirus which will be in 18 months or so when we actually have a vaccine that can be mass produced and delivered.

My assumption, probably erroneous, is guys like that will be fine because they get caught early and get great care.

Doctors can tell me I am wrong, though.

I assume if everybody was caught instantly and then treated perfectly nobody would die, and that deaths occur as conditions start to erode from that perfection. That lethality = inefficiency.

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

Senate Republicans have backed down on the threat to wait until after a week-long recess to consider the House coronavirus response bill, and have canceled recess. But that doesn’t mean they’re gearing up to be reasonable about protecting families from the economic impact of the pandemic.

“Per multiple sources, there are 2 issues emerging as sticking points in negotiations between the White House and Speaker Pelosi on the Coronavirus aid bill: paid sick leave and abortion,” NBC's Alex Moe tweeted. It’s a close call which of these is more shocking (without being all that surprising)—that Republicans are balking at paid sick leave during a pandemic or that Republicans are somehow turning pandemic response into an abortion fight.

The issue at play, abortion-wise, is that Republicans want to add anti-abortion language to the bill. That scans—as something ruthlessly partisan politicians with no regard for health or safety would do. It also comes in the context of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell having warned about the House Democrats’ bill—the one with the sick leave and coronavirus testing—being “an ideological wish list that was not tailored closely to the circumstances.”

I know we all know the NYT is shi—t, but holy moly the difference is stark.

So my best friend from HS, who is very smart but a Dumpy who consumes right wing news (not Flaggy but, you know, American Spectator, National Review) just wrote me "the recession caused by the overreaction is going to kill more people than the virus."

There's no way to help people trapped in a data killing jar. Remember: he's top 5% smart.

It's always somebody else's fault, if possible a black guy.

Dump has the worst character of any American alive. If there's any truth to modeling the children of current Republicans are going to grow up to be absolute sh-t people.

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

Interesting that NASCAR is one of the only major sports organizations not cancelling events. Atlanta Motor Speedway has also announced it will not be refunding money for those who purchased tickets to their race this weekend. Instead, they will give those who are on record as having purchased tickets credit for future events. NASCAR fans are one of the main bastion of full on trump-licking though, so it is understandable that the sport is not taking this as seriously as perhaps they should (it is a democratic hoax after all) and and since they are rubes why should they get their money back?

Depends. You’re probably not entirely wrong, but at that age things can get complicated. Cytokine Storm has been reported in some cases as a possible route of death. Not much you can do about that as I understand it. Multiple organ failure, kidney damage, etc.

And being in a hospital for 2-6 weeks isn’t great for anyone. Much less a nation who needs leadership.

I posted mainly because of the stark difference in headlines.

Also, the thing to remember as our hospitals become more stressed, people who have things like chest pains won’t seek treatment and will die as a result. The CFR of all of these pandemics is not reflective of the collateral damage. Even if 100,000 people die from this virus directly, some other multiple of that will die overall as a result.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about comorbidities and/or the Olds.

I was thinking about... me. :-)
