Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

So my best friend from HS, who is very smart but a Dumpy who consumes right wing news (not Flaggy but, you know, American Spectator, National Review) just wrote me "the recession caused by the overreaction is going to kill more people than the virus."

There's no way to help people trapped in a data killing jar. Remember: he's top 5% smart.

At what point do the enemies cease being the president, his circle and the handful of republicans who enable him, and instead our neighbors become our enemies? While right now trump's behavior has put me and everyone else at risk, attitudes like your former (I hope) friend allow it to continue. If hundreds of thousands of people die because of this it will be trump's fault, sure, but won't it also be the fault of the people who have allowed trump to fester?

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

I posted mainly because of the stark difference in headlines.

Also, the thing to remember as our hospitals become more stressed, people who have things like chest pains won’t seek treatment and will die as a result. The CFR of all of these pandemics is not reflective of the collateral damage. Even if 100,000 people die from this virus directly, some other multiple of that will die overall as a result.

Exactly. All the beds are filled so other conditions will be denied treatment.

Would we really be getting less leadership if he was out?

I think he meant a nation without leadership responds poorly. If anything, Dump getting sick would be better, except the idiots around him are only slightly better.

This is the true Confederation of Dunces.

Not only is he the worst President of all time but he has the worse cabinet of all time.

I was talking about Iran. All counties need leadership even if it’s a place like Iran

If Trump got sick and died, a thousands of Americans would live. Conservatively. Hell, even if he just got critically sick, that might still be true.

Put it this way, we’re going to have a recession. There are two scenarios:

1. We fight this like the South Koreans and beat it back within 1-2 months. Probably a small recession which we can recover quickly.
2. We don’t. A million people die in the US. Total lockdown, maybe for months. Factories shut down. People get laid off en masse across the board. We have a recession more like 07-08. Maybe worse.

You're just being hysterical about this hoax. It's only hitting geriatrics.

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

Hoover, Coolidge, Fillmore

Nice article about it.

Those mentioned:

Dump (of course)

Harding

Harding, who died suddenly during his first term, is remembered for some spectacular scandals as well as being a weak president. His actual Cabinet appointments, however, were mostly solid, including figures such as Herbert Hoover, Charles Evans Hughes and Andrew Mellon. Alas for Harding, two of his not-so-solid appointments, Harry Daugherty (attorney general) and Albert Hall (Interior), were corrupt — the latter responsible for, perhaps, the most famous scandal in American history before Watergate, Teapot Dome. But Harding was not directly implicated. In fact, he died before it became public.

Buchanan

Buchanan, like Harding, is also widely considered to be one of the worst presidents. But he only deserves honorable mention for worst Cabinet. True, his initial selections were far from distinguished and did little to avoid the calamitous Civil War that ensued. Moreover, Buchanan's Cabinet included several members who committed treason by joining the Confederacy at the outbreak of war. One of them, Secretary of War John B. Floyd, is widely believed to have conspired to weaken U.S. military forces in the face of an expected Confederacy uprising.

Grant

But the real competition for worst Cabinet probably goes to Grant. He did make some outstanding choices, including Hamilton Fish and Alphonso Taft. But overall it was shaky, resulting in an unparalleled number of major scandals (12) that erupted during his eight years. At least five of his Cabinet members, including Treasury secretary and attorney general, were complicit in them. The "Black Friday" gold speculation and the "Whiskey Ring" remain the best known. Grant himself is believed to have been honest. But his standards for picking administration officials were abysmally loose. Moreover, he permanently compromised his historical reputation, defending many of the culprits while engaging in wholesale nepotism, including giving government jobs to three brothers-in-law.

To be fair, Hitler, like Dump, was a germaphobe. They are aware of their mortality. I'm sure it adds to their megalomaniacal paranoia.

Re: Covfefe-19 2020 part the second: Wash Your Hands

I'm in the middle of the Grant book by Ron Chernow now, and it's pretty good. As your quote points out, Grant himself doesn't seem to have been involved in any of the scandals but he a) seemed to prefer well-to-do business people in major positions because he knew little about politics or business and figured they knew their stuff and b) was naively trusting of people to behave well like he would, so he often couldn't even conceive that they would do bad stuff. He fit much better in a command-down structure like the military than a wheel-and-deal environment like DC. That said, his administration did a LOT for reconstruction while it could.

Hitler was also a drug addict the last couple years of his life. Time will tell if the rumors about Dump's Adderall use are true...

President Trump on Friday again claimed that his response to the coronavirus was hindered by the Obama administration, which left office three years ago.

Mr. Trump attacked Mr. Obama, who served with Mr. Trump’s likely Democratic challenger, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., in two posts on Twitter.

“For decades the @CDCgov looked at, and studied, its testing system, but did nothing about it,” Mr. Trump wrote. “It would always be inadequate and slow for a large scale pandemic, but a pandemic would never happen, they hoped. President Obama made changes that only complicated things further.

“Their response to H1N1 Swine Flu was a full scale disaster, with thousands dying, and nothing meaningful done to fix the testing problem, until now,” he continued. “The changes have been made and testing will soon happen on a very large scale basis. All Red Tape has been cut, ready to go!” he wrote.

Swine Flu is the goto for all the Dumpies and Dittoheads now. My co-workers all started talking about it in unison yesterday, so they must have injected it into the Echo Chamber then.

Pavlovian Dogs have more free will.
