Could we interest you in a deer for a win? (Michigan Tech @ WisconSIN - 10/29-30)

Re: Could we interest you in a deer for a win? (Michigan Tech @ WisconSIN - 10/29-30

Oh and Bennett is one of the biggest ******s ever. Derek Lee is awesome, however. I was disappointed that Jordy Murray and Podge were not at the bar.

You're shocked that a player on an opposing team who you stalked down at the bar was a *****? Just trying to figure this out.

Actually, shirtless and I have met a bunch of the Badgers at the bar, going back to the last Nat. Champ. team. Only a couple have been *******es, and most have been pretty awesome. Met Bennett last year and he was cool, I gave him **** for transferring from BU right before they won it all, he took it in stride, and we all laughed about it. Yager was probably trying to ruffie Bennett and got caught, thus the anger.

In general, college hockey players are awesome, i'll agree with you there. Funny story once I was at a bar with some freinds who happened to know a Minnesota player and we were shooting the breeze with him when this smoking blonde walks by. Mid sentance he turns to the girl who has started walking past us and just shouts at her, "hey! I play for the Gophers!" and proceeded to scamper after her. No word on where that led, but I did not see him again that night.

Meh, read what bbdl said, I was there llast year as well and met a lot of them. They are in general pretty awesome. But Bennett started trying to touch this girl I was talking with (this is after he came up to me about a minute into the conversation) and I pushed him back and he started saying a bunch of "I've done girls way hotter than you" to her and what not.

I've never understood what is so wrong with having traveling fans. I'm all for creatively making fun of teams of visiting fans, but as I was walking around the Kohl center, do you how many times an a-hole would walk in front of me like some tough guy and yell "**** Tech!". I also heard the "**** the Huskies" chant (NOT what the **** drop the puck) at least 3 times. Every time that happened some Badger fan's 5-or-so year old son would ask his dad what they were saying. And then we had a couple of 40-50 year old guys heckling the player's parents and going irate when we stood for about 10 seconds during the game because Genoe had just made a ton of consecutive amazing saves during the 5-minute PK on Friday. On the plus side of things, I met a really awesome Sconie fan who will be coming to Tech with his daughter this January. Oh and Bennett is one of the biggest ******s ever. Derek Lee is awesome, however. I was disappointed that Jordy Murray and Podge were not at the bar.

Yeah, there's no place for people getting in individual's faces I don't think.
However, I don't know if I would take the "**** the Huskies" chant as an insult. Not a fan of it due to the lack of creativity involved, but honestly I don't think there's any malice or anything in it. Seems to be done to every team who comes to Madison. (Except for **** the Gophers. Definitely malice in that.)

True, the student section verbally abuses pretty much every team. If you dont like it and cant take it, dont come to Madison. Its really as simple as that.
I dont mean to sound like a jerk, but the whole reason for those chants is to get under you and your team's skin. If you dont have a thick skin, you might as well stay home.
Besides, like some of the others have said, its not as if the Badger fans/students are the only ones who do it.

All he's trying to say is, stay classy ;) Mitch's Misfits does its best to be clever, original and avoid blatant "F#@% the Badgers" type cheers. I'm just amazed that with all your other stupid rules, you put up with that crap. I can also guarantee you that if a dozen MTU fans started chanting F#@% the Badgers we would be yelled at and probably removed if we kept doing it.

Yeah, what SG said. I personally don't care about the cheer, I just found that your family type fans seemed to be annoyed with it. There are just some things are probably should stay out of an arena, just like Duluth's student section using "Purple Faggots" when Mankato came to town last year, but they actually got in some crap for doing that.

Again, rules for visitors and rules for the student section are two different things. Do you want them to throw out the entire student section?

Life isn't fair. It's like growing up a Wisconsin fan and growing up a Tech fan. :p

I'm sure it does annoy people, I kind of cringe myself sometimes. Like Chuck said though, it's different for the student section. If there were only 12 students there, they'd try to kick them out. But it's fighting a losing battle trying to kick out 2000+.

As a parent who takes children to hockey games, I don't want to hear swear words in the chants taunting opposing teams. Be creative, don't take the easy way out.

I grew up a wisconsin fan ;) I just got a better education at Tech :p As for your first part yes, they should kick out the entire student section ;) I took my shirt off one game, I put my shirt on after the game in the concourse when the green jackets asked me...during warmups the next day a green jacket told my my actions from the previous night would not be tolerated...(we can skip the other crap that took place between warmups and the final 5 minutes of the game)...to taunt me back for the night before, about 100 badger students took their shirts off, I complained to the security guard saying if that was me he would have kicked me out...ribbed him a few times to show the hypocrisy and the everyone around me got a good laugh at how stupid I made him look. In actuality the Badger security and Kohl Center staff are pretty cool with me doing my "Shirtless Guy" thing now that I have called ahead and basically agreed to stop what I'm doing if people start threatening me or things get violent or something (which hasn't happen). When most of these things were going down, I was a tax paying resident of Wisconsin so I really should be treated equally in a University of Wisconsin facility ;)

Re: Could we interest you in a deer for a win? (Michigan Tech @ WisconSIN - 10/29-30

Not to beat a dead horse but I took a child of mine to madison for a game once, it was not a Tech game but we happened to be there. needless to say I won't go back. This does happen in other arena's but not to this extent. Not saying it's good or bad, just sayin...

Plus it's tough to actually throw out the Wisconsin student section. They don't arrive until there are five minutes left in the first.

Re: Could we interest you in a deer for a win? (Michigan Tech @ WisconSIN - 10/29-30

I believe the F-u-c-k the Huskies chant started after Nielsen got his game DQ and then hammed it up while leaving the ice. Just sayin'...

I've been taking my 11 year old to games (football & hockey) since he was 3 and I've decided to take a different approach. I've actually acted like a parent and explained to him that those are just words, words that are inappropriate for him to use. The students probably shouldn't do it, I'd explain, but they're 18-22 year olds and sometimes kids of that age do things they shouldn't and in the grand scheme of things, this is a minor infraction.

Believe it or not, this worked and diffused the situation and he doesn't even notice it or acknowledge it as any big deal when the students do it now.

It's amazing what actually explaining things to children can accomplish.

Like the whole deer thing. I told him that sometimes guys are drunk and lonely and driving home from the bar...

Wow, youve clearly never been to a game at the Kohl. The students always arrive 30 minutes early.
BTW, to those who say the MTU fans are always respectful, ummm, no...

Re: Could we interest you in a deer for a win? (Michigan Tech @ WisconSIN - 10/29-30

Just saying, it was my third year in a row going to Madison for the games and it was the worst treatment that I have had from opposing fans as a whole from any other rink thus far. And I have been to UND at least 5 times, Mankato twice, SCSU twice, Minnesota 3 times, UAA once, Duluth 3 times, and many other CCHA games, some Tech non-con away games, and a lot of neutral site games.

It was probably the worst, simply because Tech got swept and you were alone...traveling in a group really helps with some of that crap...especially when bigblue and I aren't around ;)
