Cops 9: You Are What Now?

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

But what do you do about the people already on the force? This notion that training will fix everything is a farce...it is like pulling the weed but leaving the roots. It just grows back...

Christ every ten years NYPD seems to go through this...they get rid of the supposed bad actors and yet it never changes. Because it isnt the people that are the problem. The department itself is.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

JeffC. They can be TRAINED to use it properly, and that also can mean, DON'T use it unless absolutely necessary. Last resort. If police were trained properly, this would be the case. You have it at your disposal, but this is NOT your first choice whatsoever.

Guess what? Some out there, they do have weapons that will overcome standard police equipment. If THAT situation arises, then you THINK about using those extra armaments, and deploy as necessary. Key words: as necessary.

To send out an officer armed only with a baton and a radio is beyond ridiculous; seems to me that some of you are advocating that sort of stance. Pfffffft.

BS, they bring force out whenever they feel like it's needed. Seen it too many times brought out when it's not needed- we even see it being brought NOW when there are peaceful protests. You are full of ****. If it were true, we would not even know they have this military crap. Instead, we see it so often we wonder what they did before that. Oh, yea, beat people with clubs and water them down with fire hydrants.

Isn't needed.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

The point is, Rube, that the way you see it is hopeless compromised by your emotions. Your arguments are autobiography, not reason. You can say them all you want but I'm not going to engage with you on this because what's you're saying is "oh yeah?!, well my daddy can eat up your daddy!" And I'm too old for that sh-t.

I look at each case individually per the law. Having LEOs in my family has taught me that many times over. Look at the facts, what the law says, then draw a conclusion. For example, the Castile case, that officer should have been found guilty, but there was a technicality in the law. I understood that, you probably understood that, others also did. It was unfortunate, but that was the law.

It's not what I think. It's what the law is. Should some laws be changed? Absolutely. I applaud the "guilty by association" (for lack of a better phrase) that Mpls just passed on officer intervention. That is awesome. That's the way it should be. A rookie should not be intimidated by a veteran just because of rank.

And that's what we need to fix. It's not a light switch. You can't just fire everyone and then wait until the new recruits come in. Put EVERYONE through the new proper training techniques, mental evals, etc, and change the force. And fire people who don't qualify, at will.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

Those are the people, during the training and screening process WITH ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, that would be weeded out before they were handed a badge.

You give in to the lowest bidder, you're going to get the sh*iest project. Simple math.

Why aren't they weeded out now with the current funding and training and screening systems already in place? Or maybe these are the types they WANT to be hiring? You know, the kick *** and take names type.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

I can and I will. My uncle and great grandpa served a combined 68 years on the force in Olmstead County in MN. Can't find info on my great grandpa. But here is a link on my uncle. They pulled their weapons zero times. They were by-the-books cops, too. My uncle gave his own son a speeding ticket. :D (Legendary anecdote among our family, btw). They were good cops. Added: my uncle was on duty during the Hormel strikes in Austin (also linked, at how tense that was):

If your relatives never branded their weapons, what in the world is your justification for former military hardware??????

Those are opposite ends of the reaction balance.

You are defending cops that don't represent how your relatives reacted to people. Is that not obvious to you? It is to me. Stop defending these POSs just because your family were cops. They shame any cops that never once used a weapon for their entire career. Like your family. Which means your defense is embarrassing the memory of your family, good job.

Police need to serve and protect, not assault and cover up.

The current funding isn't enough. Please keep up, thank you.

They bring out force just because they want to. Beatin' on people makes them feel good. Makes up for that time that niggah spit on them in holding.

The current force is very trained, I'm sure. And this is what we are getting.

Explain how more will help???

We NEED a light switch, as most of this entire country, as well as much of the entire world has had enough of this BS. Get rid of it, start over again. End the legacy of hoover and his POS cronies.

Serve and protect, not assault and cover up.

You want more cops to beat up more people? What kind of thinking is that?

How about solve the problems that lead to crime- economic opportunity. Pay more teachers. We don't need more cops in inner cities and very rural areas, we need more teachers.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

So cops aren't trained, cause there's no money? No training at all?

Hell, what kind of training do they need to know that pepper spraying people standing on the side of the road from their vehicles is wrong?

They are trained as soldiers. Not trained as officers. They need to re-learn tactics (like de-escalation). Train them as officers. Those that don't qualify? They gone.

Yes, it is. Maybe the cops should stop violating peoples rights and avoid millions in civil rights damages and they could afford better stuff.

Or maybe the union should focus on pay and working conditions rather than fighting civilian* oversight during labor negotiations (never mind that cops are also civilians so this is a misnomer that feeds the military style policing present throughout the country).

No, the funding isn't enough. I'll pay more taxes if it means we fund our police, firefighters, and teachers more. No problem. They are all underpaid, and in the case of the police, not trained correctly.

How about the chief not authorizing that heavy force equipment out on the streets? What kind of training do you need for that to happen?

Again, that **** isn't because of a lack of training. it's because they WANT to do it that way.

If you need better training to know stuff like this isnt ok then **** you you are a criminal and too stupid to live.

You really are this slow, or are as big of a troll as (name redacted). Those people would not be on the force if proper training was put into place.
