Cops 9: You Are What Now?

The underlined and bolded. :)

Can we also get rid of local departments from having surplus military trucks / gear?

I'd much rather SWAT goes back to being just a well trained small group and not the whole farking department.

Also, I am the same as you Rube. Grew up in the State Police family. But I'll be first in line to call out the a**holes.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

I've engage here with him on the topic of policing many times and while he admits he has family who are police officers my memory is that he fails to acknowledge that this might cloud his judgement. If he has acknowledged that, I apologize to him.

Ahhh, sitting around the dinner table. trading stories about that time you had to take the nightstick to the cracked out n*****r or the mouthy spic. Good times.

If the cops were properly trained, that surplus stuff wouldn't really matter. The properly trained would only use that stuff if needed. I don't mind they have it on hand; I mind when it is unnecessarily used. ;)

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

Don’t know if true or not but apparently a veto proof majority of the Mpls city council has pledged to disband the police department. Should be interesting.

It is at least being attempted.

Ugh. Yeah, that makes so much sense. Disgusting. INCREASE funding, and use it more wisely and get the RIGHT people for the jobs.

If this really happens, I will not be going into Minneapolis city limits at any time. No way, no how.

That legit made me tear up...

Hovey,

It sounds like the truth. They are going to disband and start fresh.

This could get ugly. But the people are in favor of it they booed Frey when he said he wouldn't do it.

Might give Kroll a heart attack...so it ain't all bad.

What, that doesn't happen? Hmmm, I guess my ex-neighbor who used to be a cop in Mass and Oregon was just making that chit up. He always tells me stuff like that, me being the bleeding heart Libbie who doesn't really understand what it's like being on the force.

Their argument is there is no way to fix the problem or is too ingrained and protected. No amount of re-education and training will do it short of mass firings which the union would never allow.

Not saying I agree...but they have a point.

It likely does happen. Your insinuation is that Rube's family does that...without proof...so you can knock it off.

Frey and Kroll are worthless; however I don't think going with "community-led groups" is the answer at all.

Re: Cops 9: You Are What Now?

I am 100% for this.

And as for the police bias? Yeah, I am biased FOR the police. However, if someone tarnishes the badge, I'm also trying to be the first to call them out on it, since it disgraces the good cops.

Maybe, but you've also often gone out of your way to defend them in scenarios when everyone else in the room is thinking, "w t f?".

Some of those defenses were in accordance "is it legal" sort of things. I may have disagreed with

I will say that with this latest case, Chauvin is done for. The 2 rookie cops? I bet they either plea down, or they walk. The other vet officer? He won't walk, but probably has a chance to plea down.

Personally, I think Chauvin's charges?: I'm good with. The rookies? They should be guilty of negligence of some degree. The other vet? A less serious charge than aiding/abetting but more than negligence, if possible. If not, then I'm good with aiding/abetting.

Going to be a lot harder than they think. The City Charter requires a police force of a certain size based upon population, and it requires the Council to adequately fund it. Can only amend the Charter by a vote put to the people, or by unanimous vote of the Council and Mayor, I believe.

Oh ffs. Police budgets don't need to be increased.

It matters BECAUSE they are "properly" trained. When you get military equipment, you are trained to use it, the way the military designed to use it... To use it in their way, you have to have that mentality- that around every single corner there is an IED, and you will die. Which is exactly how cops treat people.

There are so very few actual armed insurrections in this country, that NONE of this is needed. How many Detroit '68 or LA '92 actually happen???? They are put with a year because they are so infrequent. Which means NONE of the military stuff is needed anytime, especially in places that has never actually had any serious riots.

Yet East St Louis has them. Why? Because black.

None of it should ever be in cops hands. Ever. And if R's REALLY think it's needed, then they don't need the 2nd, since their excuse to have the 2nd is to fight the unjust government, from military cops. Duh.

BTW- went on a drive to central So Michigan. And I seriously thought what in the world do these people fear so much to be as conservative as they are. There's zero threat to their life. Nobody is out there other than farms. The only thing here in MI that threatens farm lands are oil people- which they support drill baby drill.

The fear in people is stunning. And the fact that they eat up for fear crap is pathetic.

Less cops, less budget. Solve real crimes instead of controlling people. Solve the crimes by increasing teacher salaries, and increasing opportunities.

Done.

Not to freak you out or anything, but pretty sure I just read there are buses full of Antifa headed to south central Michigan right now.
