Cops 3: Shoot low boys -- they're ridin' Shetland ponies!

Re: Cops 3: Shoot low boys -- they're ridin' Shetland ponies!

The ubiquity of guns has done much to turn our police forces into militarized occupation forces. Cops justify battering down doors and acting like special forces because everybody has guns. The constant ratcheting up of violence employed during arrests and searches derives from the normalization of paramilitary tactics in the context of a world where American cities and towns have as many guns as Baghdad battlefields.

The first step towards shrinking the arsenals of police is shrinking the arsenals of civilians.

Shrinking the arsenal of a civilian gives zero reason for a police arsenal to shrink. It makes the "lawful" civilian defenceless, and the police state to do whatever they want without any sort of repercussion. Why do you think just about every mass shooting has taken place in a "gun-free zone"? You went to an Ivy League institution, use your brain.

With the way the government is overreaching these days, along with buying billions of rounds of ammunition despite "not needing it", we need to be able to defend ourselves, lest we become slaves. Julius Caesar is soon to bring down the republic.

Still waiting for Scipio Africanus to produce his birth certificate?

Laugh all you want, make whatever equine reference you want... The fact of the matter is that the Constitution was written by people who overthrew a government. They understood that at some point, even this country was vulnerable to overreach and may need to be overthrown. They afforded us the tools to be able to do so. By shutting them down, you commit us to tyranny.

Also, to all you Second Amendment "GUBMINT GONNA GET ME" nuts. Use some logic. If the gubmint wants to get you, they have tanks. --Chris Kluwe

There are other quotes from his Twitter and his book about the 2nd Amendment, and while pro-gun, I do see the sense in his rants. He's quite right. Your tricked out, gold plated mega-magazine AR-15 doesn't stand a chance against today's government. ;)

Our government has drones FFS. They can take out Mr. Sovereign Citizen from a bunker if need be.

300 million people with just guns is still a very difficult enemy even for the US Military. If the Government ever did "declare war" on the people, guerrilla warfare would ensue at some point. Yes lots of people with guns would die but they'd stand more of a chance than just a bunch of guys with knives and axes.

This is true, definitely. Thanks, Captain. ;)

No tear but a big lump in the throat. Thanks for sharing.

The everyday sh* we don't hear about, that cops go through...it's a tough job. Nevermind the possible threat to your life, just the mundane bullsh* calls they have to deal with....

*I say bullsh* like the drunk guys who are publicly urinating, or belligerent folks walking around, etc. The nuisance calls that can be very frustrating.

As with any collection of individuals, there are a handful of police that are flawed in some major way. Yet broadly speaking, they are real world hero's.

I was once told it took a special breed to be an airline pilot. Nerves of steel, etc. I believe that the same is true for the police. Its part of what makes them different frequently in positive, life saving ways...and sometimes controversial ways. That's quite likely why there will likely never be an end game in police/race relations...it will be a constant journey to improve.

Sickening. And before anyone chimes in with "well blue lives matter too and it's sickening that 9 cops have been shot in the last 2 weeks" yes that is sickening too. The thing is, I expect unhinged hate filled people with murder in their hearts and quite possibly a good dose of mental illness on the brain, along with easy access to guns, to shoot people. I don't expect our overwhelmingly heroic because they wear a badge, well trained, professional law enforcement officers to shoot a person who was no threat to anyone and that any half blind moron should have known was no threat to anyone.

To say there is no call for people to be shooting at cops just to shoot at them is beyond obvious. But if you think that is happening entirely in a vacuum you are willfully blind to the conditions that have brought us to where we are today. My guess is somewhere someone is plotting the same d am n thing we were just horrified by in Dallas and Baton Rouge. If you think its going to get better in the current climate you have more faith in mankind than I do.

This part is the important part.

Re: Cops 3: Shoot low boys -- they're ridin' Shetland ponies!

"the important part" implies you feel it's the only important part which is not true.

I didn't mean it that way. It's not the only important part. If it came across differently, I apologize.
