Re: Cops 2: Pay No Attention to the Rioters Behind the Curtain

I'm thinking that guy doesn't have the temperament required to protect and serve.

Agreed.

That being said, I also love how the media (and "activists") are the only ones playing the race card. Anyone else directly involved in the incident are claiming no such thing.

How do you know this, if not through the filter of media that puts that counter-narrative forward?

It is interesting how when we see two contrasting stories reported, we assume the one that agrees with our instincts is "unbiased," when in reality all that's happening is we're choosing the one that makes us feel comfortable as "true" and branding the one that would give us cognitive dissonance as "distorted."

I'm not knocking you specifically -- we all do it.

Re: Cops 2: Pay No Attention to the Rioters Behind the Curtain

Are cops really this dumb nowadays that they don't know they're being taped?

Since 9-11 we have elevated cops to extreme hero status. Now by virtue of being handed a badge you are a true American Hero. Never mind you may have never done one single thing to warrant that kind of adulation. Combine that with the fact that so many actually get away with all sorts of misbehavior without even being charged and it is no wonder so many act like this even knowing there are multiple cameras recording them most likely.

Guess where Al Sharpton works. He's made a career out of racism, so he wants it to keep going. Only when the activists-for-hire are gone will we finally put racism to bed.

As I've said many a time, it's called the Golden Rule. He who has the gold makes the rules.

They have zero accountability, so they are free to run rampant. Even if you were to recall every single sheriff in this country, the ones creating the problems are not elected. They are appointed.

This is why I specifically seek out alternative viewpoints. I'll read a history of the atom bombs and the attacks with them on Japan written from the opposite side than what I take. I'll read a magazine article on an economic theory that puts forth ideas that are different from what I think works. I'll watch a Cubs game. You'd be amazed at what you might learn if you keep an open mind to the idea that someone else may have a legitimate point.

Watching a Cubs game, maybe. But watching a White Sox game? Listening to Hawk? No, my friend. There are limits to what I'll do for knowledge.

Bingo. We scream bloody murder when one welfare queen drives a big new car and want to end food stamps because somebody bought a candy bar with the benefit. How about the same kind of oversight when municipalities pay out tens of millions of dollars in settlements and judgments when cops are found to have used unreasonable and illegal force?

Yeah but how will you ever know how good you have it with your favorite announcer if you don't occasionally force yourself to listen to a few frames of "He gone!", or "You can put it on the board....... YES!"?

...On second thought, yeah, there is a limit. I hate Hawk and since he partnered with Steve Stone I avoid White Sox telecasts like I'd avoid a hamburger laced with ebola and mad cow disease.

The dream ticket is Hawk with Jim Bowden*. Bowden is so bad he made Ron Darling terrible, and Ron's actually great with Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez.

Well c'mon. You really believe that cop would have handled things in the exact same manner if that were a crowd of blond-haired, blue-eyed teens?

Considering twice as many whites have been victims as blacks, absolutely. The only difference if you would have had to go to copblock.org to find it.

You may want to rethink your logic, given that there are six times the number whites in the US as blacks.

Direct quotes from the CNN story on their site, which is the same story that contains some viewpoints about this being racism. :p

And from what I could see, only one cop went ballistic, and we've all called him out on it.

I don't have to rethink anything. If the ratio were the reciprocal, there'd be no room to discuss coincidence. The point that I was trying to make, though, is that it won't get into the news unless it's white domestic terrorist on black citizen. Do you enjoy taking what I type out of context? No word or phrase is in its own bubble.

Your statement was that since cops kill twice as many whites as blacks, race isn't a factor. My rebuttal was that while whites outnumber blacks 6-to-1, white deaths at the hands of the cops outnumber black deaths at the hands of the cops by only 2-to-1; therefore, a randomly chosen black person is 3 times more likely than a randomly chosen white person to be killed by the police. That strongly suggests race is a factor.

Oh, so those Baltimore cops who killed Freddie Gray, who included black and I believe Hispanic officers, didn't make the news?

First off, I did not use the word "kill". I said that they were victims. Big difference.

Secondly, coincidence has not necessarily been removed. Because of the days of slavery, the body of the black man has been trained to be much faster and stronger (as is evidenced by the fact you see more of them in the more popular American sports). That obviously explains physical ability and potential magnitude, but not motive. It is true that many are given the illusion of persecution by the government media complex, resulting in them being desperate for vindication, finding brotherhoods/gangs, etc., resulting in said illicit activity, and can be more dangerous given the body statements earlier.

If you are so desperate to carry the government media complex narrative and point the finger at race, you're pointing it in the wrong direction. When it comes to who is arrested, the domestic terrorist is generally colour blind, and only seems to arrest one race more than other by coincidence.
