Congrats MacNaughton champs

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

So quick question I thought of late last night. Going into the OT in Mankato, UND's position as a 3rd seed was locked up no matter the out come. One the scores in Bemidji and Madison went final, UND was going to be the 3rd seed win, loss, or tie. My question then is, having nothing to lose and a share of the MacNaughton Cup to gain, would Hak have pulled his goalie late in the OT trying to get a share or would he have just let the game end in a tie and claim he didn't know the scores of the other games? Its 2013, everyone in Mankato should have known what was at stake for UND, even if they wont admit it.

Interesting. Still, the game had Pairwise implications for UND (though, as it turns out, they lost anyway) and some other teams might have been upset if MSU scored an empty-net game winner and passed them in the conference and/or Pairwise. As someone who was at the game, I spent the first half of the overtime thinking we were a man down anyway, as Grimaldi skated all around our guys and fired shots at will! Incredible performance. Thank God for Stephon.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

I assume the MacNaughton will be cut down the middle and given to both teams. As it is the final season of the WCHA...at least that's what FSN tells me.

This whole situation is effed up. I think the Mn coaches could have handled it better, but worse then that, the WCHA officials SHOULD have handled the situation better.

And sold for scrap by the nWCHA afterwards, to help pay the cost of sending teams to Alaska and Huntsville.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

The Gophers also had a shot to win the cup outright going into the weekend, another reason they felt justified in keeping it. Not to many flights from Bemidji to Madison so after Friday night's results nothing could be done about the cup's location. What I want to know is, where is the MacNaughton cup going to be at this summer's Minnesota State Fair? Does SCSU have a building to display the cup in?

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

now that UMTC has gotten their celebrating out of the way, SCSU will celebrate before their playoff game, forget they have a game to play and UAA will shock them. You heard it here first.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

It is more important to win the Wcha at the end of the season than worrying about a trophy location. Congrats to both clubs where ever you are.

Motzko mentioned last week after the Senior game they weren't going to do any pregame celebrating stuff anymore. He said they would especially look at not starting all the seniors at the beginning of those games and getting line mismatches after being burned the last two years.
I don't think Motzko cares if they celebrate the MacNaughton at all if it inteferes with playoffs.
I think it is something that could wait till after the season is over.

And Minnesota and North Dakota (and CC and Denver and UN-O and...) aren't bailing as well?
UND, Denver, CC, UNO, UMD, and SCSU are the ones bailing on the WCHA while Minnesota and Wisconsin the ones being forced out by the mountains of cash the BTN is promising them that they will get with being able to fill programming on the network, skating 4 times a year against Penn State and OSU. That whole league breaking off idea would have likely fell on its face if UMD didn't join them, and then have SCSU join em. Its just that right now, SCSU was in a position to get something nice and shiny because they was good all season. While everybody else on the Traitor's list who's leaving, wasn't quite so good.

This whole post is so absurd, I am not going to pick apart each moronic statement you made in it.

Minnesota and Wisconsin are just as culpable as the NCHC schools. Minnesota tried to fight it but they couldn't since Fat Alvarez forced their hand. It has nothing to do with any new revenues for Minnesota or Wisconsin. I don't know why that myth won't die. It has everythign to do with the fact that the Big Ten does not allow partial members. You're in it for all sports or no sports. The revenue play comes from that. Either you're with the BTHC or you're out of the Big Ten for all sports and the money football and basketball bring in along with the existing network revenues.

Wisconsin led the B1G charge. Minnesota was against it from the start. Had the B1G not happened then the Nacho league would not either. As always, Wisconsin is the root of all evil.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

Difference is the NACHO didn't need to happen and nobody forced DU and UND to take their ball and start a new conference. UM had no choice, if they say no then they're likely kicked out of the Big Ten for all other sports and even Joel Maturi isn't that stupid.

That he had no idea the Cup was in Bemidji and that it's location was a -8 on a scale of 1-10 on his Give-a-Crap-O-Meter. If what Bruce said is true, Motzko would have known where it was and that it'd be in Cloud next week.

If he made that request it doesn't necessarily conflict with his comment about the Gophers celebrating. He's basically saying he has bigger things to worry about and would have a chance next weekend to hoist it in front of he home crowd. In fact if the roles were reversed I'd almost prefer that scenario anyway. :)
