Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

now that UMTC has gotten their celebrating out of the way, SCSU will celebrate before their playoff game, forget they have a game to play and UAA will shock them. You heard it here first.

This is close to being true. SCSU, thinking about the bye their receive at the X, forget that that doesn't happen in St. Cloud, and UAA will skate unopposed for the first 20 minutes on Friday. Down 2-0, SCSU comes back to win Friday night by 6.

And in all seriousness, I am tired of all this whining about the NCHC, particularly aimed at SCSU. First off, SCSU OBVIOUSLY had nothing to do with it, we weren't among the original six. Second, what happens if SCSU says no to the NCHC? The NCHC would have gone down the list and taken another team from the nWCHA. MTU, NMU or MSU-M takes our place, and one of the teams we would have stuck around to help out would have left instead.

And secondly, aren't we a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad program anyway? We're Jan, right? We have no real rivals, or at least nobody considers us their rival, right? We're not a big draw for opposing fans, right? Then if we're just Jan, then who the hell is missing us?

The way I see it, you can't have it both ways. Either we're a "who cares" program, in which case shut up about us leaving, or "How could we leave the WCHA" (Won't somebody PLEASE think of the Children!) in which case we have to have SOME value, so which is it?

Oh, and in an exclusive interview with Bob Motzko I learned that St. Cloud will hold onto the MacNaughton even after the final night of the WCHA season next year, just in case SCSU gets let back in.

The Huskies are in danger of not even making the NCAAs. They are not looking past UAA.

Losing to the Badgers isn't some sort of scarlet letter anyway. They finished 4th for god's sake

Minnesota and Wisconsin are just as culpable as the NCHC schools. Minnesota tried to fight it but they couldn't since Fat Alvarez forced their hand. It has nothing to do with any new revenues for Minnesota or Wisconsin. I don't know why that myth won't die. It has everythign to do with the fact that the Big Ten does not allow partial members. You're in it for all sports or no sports. The revenue play comes from that. Either you're with the BTHC or you're out of the Big Ten for all sports and the money football and basketball bring in along with the existing network revenues.

Not much for new revenue directly related to hockey, but you're kidding yourself if you think Minnesota would be allowed o stay in the Big Ten for other sports if it didn't play along with hockey. That would mean no BTN revenue at all, which is the revenue he was referring to.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

I posted a lot of this in the nuked SCSU- Wisconsin thread, but now that this scenario has come to fruition, some notes on the Co-Champions: No outright champion has won the NCAA title since Northern Michigan in 1991. There have been 5 previous seasons with co-champions and one of those teams has won the NCAA title each time. St. Cloud State's NCAA failures are well-documented and much ridiculed, but if Husky fans are looking for omens that don't actually have anything to do with this season, the Gophers have never won the WCHA regular season and NCAA titles in the same season.

Were Drake and Hiller on that 1991 NMU team? Saw them play the gophs at old Mariucci. Great team to watch.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

SCSU fans are upset for legitimate reason. It is great to grab a share of the cup. All are thrilled with that. However, I cannot understand how SCSU locked up a share of the cup last night and was the only team to have a shot at winning the cup outright this evening, and yet the cup travels to Bemidji over Madison.... That is the issue. If SCSU had tied or won tonight, to not have the cup present is quite bush league.

This is on the WCHA.

Congrats to the Gophers. They earned their share. Dangerous team.

SCSU chose not to have it in Madison. Their choice.

Of course their is. They are the badgers. The only way it would be okay is if you played on some horrible ice surface that neutralized your superior skill.

You mean like The Dane, where the ice had as many bad bounces as the boards did (for both teams) and the ice looked to be the size of a battle drill in practice.

Re-read what I wrote.

Re: Congrats MacNaughton champs

From now until next year, when next season's WCHA regular season champ is crowned, the constant question is going to be, 'where is the MacNaughton Cup, Mariucci or St. Cloud?'

Well the MacNaughton will be at Mariucci, while the McNaughton will be in St. Cloud.

Not saying that isn't true, but if we did request that, then why were some of our players asking where the Cup was on Friday when we clinched?
Wouldn't that be something they would be told?
Also, just playing devil's advocate, there has been nothing from the coaching staff or the AD's office confirming what the WCHA says there.
It's possible the WCHA is in CYA mode with that.
