Commitment List 2013

Re: Commitment List 2013

Also, neat to the name Spiros Anastas again. If memory serves me right he was on Lebanon Valley when they cut the program a few years back. Nice to see he's still involved in hockey as a GM.

Correct - I remember him because his name gave me fits when I announced our games against them. It isn't that tough of a name when you have a 3 Mississippi to sort of process it and kind of work through it, but just kind of an awkward name to just spit out when reading from line up card. Anyway glad he found a career in hockey.

Re: Commitment List 2013

Isn't there also some kind of arrangement in place between Rice and STMike's for tuition reduction (for ANY student, not just athletes)?

You are correct. The Burlington area Catholic High School (Rice) has ties with the Burlington Area Catholic College (St. Mike's)...

Spiros Anastas has had quite the young career. After finishing his senior year at LVC as a Student-Coach after Russell got fired, he returned there for year during their Independent ACHA season. From there he became an Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator with Western Michigan where he was hired by Jeff Blashill, but worked for Andy Murray after Blashill joined the Red Wings as an Assistant. This season he was hired by Alberni Valley as General Manager but only 3 months in, Blashill called on him again and he is now an Assistant Coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. Quite the story actually, coming out of a program that never treated him or his teammates right at LVC.

Best of luck to him!

That's a great story! Thanks for sharing. And agreed, that was a sad sad ending to the Lebanon valley hockey program.

Re: Commitment List 2013

Here's a better statistical picture of OSU's BCHL recruit: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=121441

He's essenetially an onatario kid, whom the lakers were probably tracking before he headed out west. His numbers from the OPJHL aren't great, but he certainly seems to be having a great in a better league this year. It will be interesting to see which are better reflection of his contribution at Oswego.

You're definitely right, he's an Ontario boy. Anastas made a bunch of acquisitions in Alberni right when he got there and Gialedakis was his first. Might be an Ontario/Greek connection there. He is also connected to Oswego. He's close with Digby and actually played with Jon Whitelaw in Huntsville. Gialedakis is definitely a great pickup for Oswego.

Been reading this board a long time. OJHL is tracking alums a lot more recently and I help keep track. Thought I'd join in on the conversation!

Re: Commitment List 2013

Some schools don't bother to report commitments until they've actually shown up on campus and registered for class :D

Not 100% sure, but I think that it is a violation for a school to name recruits or commitments
