Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Coach explained it during one of the first radio shows - they've changed the sweaters to Nike, but they are still using Bauer equipment, including helmets. Bauer's green matched so poorly with the new MSU green by Nike that white helmets were the only solution for the time being. Bauer has been asked to develop a green for a helmet that is close as possible to the new Spartan green. Hope that helps!
What will happen with the old helmets when the green ones come in?

Thanks - I'm hoping Bauer finds that new shade of green soon!

I actually hope they keep the white ones for the white jerseys - that combination actually looks good

A couple of interesting comments by Rick Comley on his radio show today....

League called him and apologized for blowing the call on the waved off shootout goal by Dean Chelios. The league has talked with all refs and believes it won't happen again.

Also the Levielle goal that was waved off -- ref apologized for blowing the whistle too soon because he anticipated the goalie freezing the puck.

That is interesting that they conceded fault on the shootout goal. Rarely does that ever happen. Maybe i am just thinking of the NHL.

The Leveille goal though, that happens. I don't think there was much of a need for an apology.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Am I daft to ask the question: Why do we have to anticipate freezing the puck? (Which, btw, greenham was in no danger of doing).

Also, can someone help me here?

eh, the kid is only a sophomore. I think he will be a fantastic player when he gets older and while he put up great numbers as a freshman, he did have our leading scorer as a line mate. I think that set the bar a bit high. He has plenty of time to come around.

EDIT: I am gonna predict that he has a big weekend coming up here. I am gonna say 2 goals and 4 points.

What the **** was that?

Complete meltdown. Embarrassing. We were lucky not to lose after that overtime.

The team clocked out for the night with about 10 minutes left.

A 3 goal lead should never disintegrate like that against anybody and UAH is not a good team. We may have not lost but our team was humbled tonight.

Violent collision of reality and absurdity.

Blah.

We won and that is all that matters, really. I thought UAH looked very motivated last night and played very well as opposed to us just ****ing the game away. I think they have something to prove to any CCHA team they are up against.

I about died when that double minor went up there with 3:39 left.

Grant has gotta be frustrated. Looks like Comley tried to get him going with some new linemates, or maybe he is just unhappy with Grant's play and moved him off the first line. Either way, he whiffed on a one timer that he probably would have buried last year. He desperately needs a bounce to go his way.

It seems that Merrifield was awarded for his efforts with a stint on the 1st line. Good for him as i have enjoyed watching him play this season.

First road games next week and back to business with CCHA action. No reason to not be properly motivated.

Pirateasaurus - your take on the major penalty assessed to UAH near the beginning of the third period?

Did UAH get some chances during the OT PP on Friday and the PP to close out last night's game?

MSU off to a good start overall. Taking 3 of 4 points from a very good Maine team was impressive. Good luck the rest of the way.

The major call was at the opposite end of the ice from me behind the net. I did not get a good view of it but it looked like contact to the head was certainly made. It looked like our guy was lower to the ice then normal so i am not sure if the the UAH player could have easily avoided it or not but nevertheless, I believe it was # 22, Geoffrion. He was running people all weekend and deserved many of the calls he got.

On friday's OT powerplay UAH had plenty of opportunities to end it. I think we were very fortunate to come out of there with a tie because UAH had a lot of momentum once that 2nd goal went in.

Last night's double minor to end it, I think MSU was very effective in killing that penalty. I did not feel nearly as much dread as I did during friday's overtime.

I hope UAH played their best weekend of hockey the last couple nights. Much of the time i do not think it looked like we were playing a 1-5 team.

Maybe the Chargers will turn a corner soon. Good luck.

It was Geoffrion's third major of the year. I wasn't able to watch the games on Fri/Sat but I do think it was some of the best hockey the guys have played to date.

Tks.

For those of us who "live and die" for our favorite college hockey team, there comes a time when that is secondary. And that time came to Pioneer fans this weekend.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of Denver center Jesse Martin sustained three neck fractures in Saturday night's hockey game at North Dakota and was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital this morning where doctors are deciding if emergency surgery is required to relieve swelling of the spinal cord, the player's father said.

Thought UAH might see Yanakeff this weekend but Palmisano was in for both games.

UAH does not have the luxury of bringing a freshman goalie along slowly as all three are seeing their first action this year (2 freshmen and a red-shirt freshman).

We had also hoped to see Yanakeff this weekend, but one never knows what Coach is thinking.

There was no guarantee of a Yanakeff start - and after Friday's 4 1/2-minute meltdown, I'm thinking there was desparation, or a shot at redemption, or both. I'd feel as comfortable with McMahon in net as I would the freshman.

Re: Come Back With Your Shield, Or On It: MSU Spartan Hockey 2010-11

Wasn't Palmy's first start against WMU in their barn his freshman year? Not sure if it was his first, but he did start there as I remember Comley stating that it would be a baptism by fire. The difference was Lerg was on his last season, and Palmy is a junior now so maybe the team will ride Palmy all the way?

The biggest issue I think the coaches need to address is taking stupid penalties late in the game. Some players let emotion get the best of them late in the game. THAT was the failure last weekend. Thankfully Sparty has a solid PK group that they can count on normally.

Hope they're ready to take on a pretty solid WMU program.

Oh, and we have got to figure out how to win more faceoffs. AND I agree with the poster above, I think McMahon looked better in the G&W game than Yanafeff, but that is a tough call.
