College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Nebraska and Iowa will now be playing "The Heroes Game." No word on the actual trophy yet; my guess is a bronzed American flag or some other stupidly patriotic overdose.

Why yes, it is as stupid as it sounds. Apparently Nebraska and Iowa's sports marketing people are the same ones that came up with Leaders and Legends for division names.

Why couldn't they just call it the Corn Bowl and be done with it. I hate f'king marketing gimmicks to come up with trophies. Trophies should be based out of tradition like the Little Brown Jug.

I guess I'm not surprised the two dumbest schools in the conference came up with those names.

Big Ten announces that they're going to 9 game schedule in 2017. Radio guys in Michigan somehow think this leads to less slaughtering of MAC schools as opposed to less games against teams that don't suck.

USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll
1. Oklahoma (42)
2. Alabama (13)
3. Oregon (2)
4. LSU (2)
5. Florida State
6. Stanford
7. Boise State
8. Oklahoma State
9. Texas A&M
10. Wisconsin
11. Nebraska
12. South Carolina
13. Virginia Tech
14. Arkansas
15. TCU
16. Ohio State
17. Michigan State
18. Notre Dame
19. Auburn
20. Mississippi State
21. Missouri
22. Georgia
23. Florida
24. Texas
25. Penn State

If anything, I think it means that the Big Ten schools will more often see certain MAC schools on their schedules, and likely find it harder to be able to schedule games with good programs, namely Norte Dame.

Butch Davis reaching out from beyond the firing to add some UNC violations.

Offered his son a scholarship, which the chancellor then discussed.

Discussing recruits that have not signed a LOI is a NCAA no-no.

Edit: Also, Boise State is going to destroy Georgia because Mark Richt didn't know that Kellen Moore was still in school.

“[The athletic director] came to me with that and he was like, ‘Well, that quarterback’s a senior and he’s leaving.’ I really didn’t look at it. I knew that he had been there a long enough time that he was probably on the way out. After we signed on the dotted line, then I went and looked at the depth chart and realized he was still there. Then I was hoping he would turn pro early and he didn’t do that.”

Good move by the Big Ten. With the Big 12 now also playing 9 conference games, SEC, where are ya?

SEC can't do that. They won't be able to pad their schedule vs. La-Monroe, W. Kentucky and Vassar if they do that.

JoePa is on the injured list again.

Penn State coach Joe Paterno suffered injuries to his right shoulder and hip when a receiver ran into him during practice Sunday.

Paterno was "blindsided" by a player running a drill but "walked away after the collision," according to a statement released Monday by the team.

Paterno sustained at least one hairline fracture, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

But the 84-year-old coach was not expected to require surgery, said Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State's director of athletic medicine. A team spokesman said he would likely be released by Tuesday afternoon.

Considering they're getting two BCS bids and a team winning the national title game every year, why would they change a thing? I wouldn't.

Have someone bring the SoS quotient of the BCS back instead of complaining when it pushes a Florida State team past a Miami team past a Washington team that were all beaten by the team behind them but played progressively weaker schedules.

Agreed, SOS rewards conferences that go out and schedule decent competition. There's no reason why a National Championship contender has to have a Non-con schedule who's collective record ends up being .150. Set things up to where they're more likely to want that number be .500 or even higher, then we're going to see them schedule tougher games with a lot better matchups.

It's worked for years in basketball, where teams load up on patsies in the non-conference season, then beat one or two good teams over the course of a 16-game league schedule, and make the tournament as a 6 seed.

Only real surprise is that it took this long to make it to football.

Twitter is full of jibber jabber that Texas A&M will be moving to the SEC in 2012-13 now.

Good, they should have done this the second Texas threatened to destroy the Big 12-2.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

I would say Oklahoma is the best bet...the SEC would love to add them and I doubt they want to play second fiddle to Texas in whatever the Big 12-2 becomes.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Yeah, but the fly in the ointment with Oklahoma would be most likely that there would be political pressure from the state of Oklahoma for Oklahoma to not leave behind Oklahoma State behind. I could see them trying to make them both a package deal for the SEC. Of course, that might just as well work out for Missouri anyways. As long as they grab Texas A&M, the Tigers are in play for the SEC IMO.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

It all depends on how many teams the SEC is willing to take. The problem with taking Missouri is what happens to Kansas? They get stuck with the Big 12-??? Leftovers meaning they get to be Texas' version of Indiana.

If the SEC is willing to take 4 teams it could choose Missouri, A&M, Kansas and one other school though I am not sure who maybe Texas Tech?
