take away my obvious bias against BCC...
But I don't think it would have been that easy for the MWC to do that. And even if they got into the BCS, one of the issues is the contracted bowls for the rest of the conference- *maybe* they would be given one decent payout bowl a year, but I would not be surprised that the rich conferences would go after the remaining bowls to take a profitable bowl away from the MWC.
Really, this whole thing is about money. While I really like to make fun of BSU's fans (more than their teams)- their situation this bowl season is a perfect illustration- have a great season, except for two missed field goals (or a bad team second half- it doesn't really matter), including winning a national TV game against VT. But end up in a pretty minor, pre-christmas bowl in Vegas. Sure, it's a short drive from both BSU and Utah fans. But compare that with to pretty bad 7-5 Big 10 teams who played on New Years Day, in Florida. I'd be willing to bet that both Penn State and Michigan brought more fans to Florida than BSU averages at a home game. that's not to really slight Boise, but to show the money in the other states.
Michigan got the honor of being embarassed, badly, (and thankfully, I hope to hear this week) and took home a lot more cash to spread to the rest of the B10 all from managing to win 7 games, somehow. Vs. BSU's 11.
So what I'm saying is that IF a conference somehow manages to become BCS eligible, the big conferences would probably drag their feet for a LONG time, and cast a lot more doubt. Or stop the program entirely.
On the money front, I wonder how much ESPN looses now that Jan 1 and passed, and there are really only two games that mean anything to anyone- and one of them has the same two school audience as if it had been played before new years as before.
