Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

And don't worry, they're already running the plot of the Iron Bowl being a semi-final for entry into the BCS title game.

Tools.

That's because for Alabama one loss only really counts as half a loss.

I mean, if we were going to rank any one loss team the highest, shouldn't it be the one who's only loss is to the #1 team? Right? Right? :P

All of that about the ESPN-SEC Axis of Evil is true, but Newton is also freaky good and probably deserves the Heisman.

True, but it's more the annoying aspect that now that ESPN has found their SEC guy the decision has been made, regardless of anything else that might happen.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I wonder if they will move TCU ahead of Auburn because the Tigers are playing a lesser team.:D

Apparently that rule only applies to non-BCS schools. I'd love it if T.O. (alumnus of Chattanooga) had a game of eligibility left. :D

Auburn is using an ineligible player, Chattanooga can too. :p

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

An interesting angle to this is it could be a two-fer, as Newton first went to Florida before transferring to Auburn, raising interesting questions about how he got to Florida to begin with. In typical SEC fashion, Auburn's only comment to date is that Newton is still eligible.

Except that if he (or his Dad) shopped his services around, he's ineligible anywhere. Even Auburn. Coach Chizik doesn't seem to understand that.

At this point, there's really no reason for Auburn to declare him ineligible. They'd have to forfeit every game this year already played. May as well try to run the table and hope he doesn't get nailed in hindsight.

If Auburn forfeits, they would drop out of the BC$ Top Two and TCU or Boise would get their slot. :D They can't let happen, now. Can they?

I understand that, but Gene Chizik said, "He's eligible at Auburn. Period." It doesn't matter if Auburn is pure as the driven snow - if he's ineligible anywhere he's ineligible everywhere.

Yep, hell, its the SEC. They'll play him until the NCAA says otherwise. If they say hold him out, then he out.

Any school would do it that way at this point. He's already played every game of the 2010 season. They'd have to forfeit all those games anyway, so there's no difference between 8 forfeits in three years and playing him, getting to a BCS game and then having to forfeit 11-13 games in 3 years. In fact, there's a lot of lost revenue from merchandise sales by holding him out and getting beaten 27-0 by Alabama and playing in the Peach Bowl.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Over/under at Michigan-Illinois today was 57.5

Take the over.

75 yard TD pass by Robinson on the first play from scrimmage

Michigan 7, Illinois 0 - 14:46 1st quarter.

The difference ought to be that if a school knowingly continues to play an ineligible player the future penalty in years on probation and out of bowl contention would be steeper. Not saying that's the case here, just that if the NC$$ and/or SEC were serious they could affect future revenues and thus get the school to pay attention.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

This Michigan/Illinois game is horrible. 4 turnovers already.

Michigan's Roundtree is best Roundtree since this guy.

Illinois and Michigan tied at 28 with a minute plus before the half. Greg Robinson must be the Defensive Coordinator of both teams today. :D

56 (28-28) right now...1:11 to go in the first half.

I think we found a defense as bad as Michigan's...

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Michigan has 31 in the first half, plus 3 turnovers and a stopped 4th down. Absurd as it sounds, they could easily have 45 at the half.
