Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Erin Andrews will be covering the Stanford/Arizona game this weekend. Would it be in poor taste to make a sign saying "I SEE YOU, ERIN" with an eyehole cut in the sign?

Not poor taste, but too stale of a subject.

The NCAA is investigating the recruitment of Auburn's Heisman hopeful, Cam Newton.

Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond said that a teammate of Bond’s from his playing days in the 1980s called him shortly after Newton’s recruiting visit.

"Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond said that a teammate of Bond’s from his playing days in the 1980s called him shortly after Newton’s recruiting visit. "He said it would take some cash to get Cam," Bond said, according to ESPN.com. "I called our athletic director, Greg Byrne, and he took it from there. That was pretty much it." "

Interesting. Of course, if there is wrongdoing and if Auburn wins a national title, they'd get the Alabama treatment, a mild slap on the wrist and a look in the other direction.

Eh, unless you're in a very prime spot, I would doubt that ESPN would zoom in on you enough to let viewers see you. That, and I'm sure you're not the first one out there that's done something simuiler.

You might be better off going from a DWTS angle. Say you wanna do a jive with her, or the lindyhop perhaps. She probably gets plenty of requests to tango or rumba.

Villanova's average attendance is like 6,000. They're not bringing jack squat in terms of the Philly market. They had 8,000 for a FCS semifinal last December.

TCU's not as absurd because their travel costs suck regardless of if they're in the MWC or Big East.

Temple is on its way back to respectability...which will bring fans...they could re-enter the Big East...if they brought the basketball team that would be a coup.

Alabama got away with more because Myles Brand was more interested in penalizing universities with indian nicknames than he was penalizing rules violations. Said period of lax penalties is over now. Ask USC.

no, omfg, no. that's beyond brilliant. Do it and take pictures. This is hilarious.

On a side note, having a turkey "Gobble" over the speakers at your stadium on 3rd and 4th downs is not frightening, Virginia Tech.

The SEC will punish Auburn by making them bench him for the 2nd half vs. Chattanooga.

They're going to punish Mississippi State for letting their booster comment on this year's undefeated SEC team.

True.

Not a bad deal for Auburn. $200,000 is a bargain to push them into the national title hunt. Very good ROI.

This could be real interesting. Reportedly, Auburn has known about the allegations for months without taking action, and the SEC has known for close to a year.

An interesting angle to this is it could be a two-fer, as Newton first went to Florida before transferring to Auburn, raising interesting questions about how he got to Florida to begin with. In typical SEC fashion, Auburn's only comment to date is that Newton is still eligible.

I'm not sure you want to go there.

At Virginia Tech, the bar for "frightening" is scary high. :(

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Watching ESPN SportsCenter over the past 24 hours really drives home how precarious things are for the minor conference teams.

Take last night's game. Yay for BSU, one of their opponents got a win, and climbs a little higher in the BCS rankings. Will it really matter? Not at all. Because VT is a 2-loss team.

BSU may have been eliminated from BCS title consideration by . . . wait for it . . . wait for it . . . James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, VA.

Of course, that was a hangover game for VT. And it wasn't even really a meaningful game. As soon as VT lost to BSU in the final minute of their game, the BCS title was gone. All that was left for them was the conference title and Orange Bowl. JMU was irrelevant to both of those, they didn't take the game seriously, and lost.

If they hadn't, and their only loss was a final-moments nailbiter to BSU, then regardless of the fact that they aren't great, VT is still in the top-10. And BSU has their top-10 win to point to, to hold off TCU.

Playoffs, now. That's all.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

ESPN has already decided that Newton is this year's SEC Heisman phenom, so they will make sure nothing is done to sully his amazing name.

It's been done to death. Not unlike Erin Andrews.

And don't worry, they're already running the plot of the Iron Bowl being a semi-final for entry into the BCS title game.

Tools.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

All of that about the ESPN-SEC Axis of Evil is true, but Newton is also freaky good and probably deserves the Heisman.

If this story gains any legs, he won't get it because they aren't going to want to strip a second Heisman four years from now.
