I can't wait until the gophers announce mack brown as head coach next year. Timmy B will also be back as a recruiting coordinator. Life is great.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I'm tempted, but this needed to happen... We now need Bama to go out and destroy Auburn to open a slot to TCU/BSU...

Even if Alabama does destroy Auburn in the Iron Bowl, does anyone doubt that they'll "redeem themselves" by blowing out whichever team is unlucky enough to come out of the East and still end up in the BCS game? E$PN and everyone else in the BCS has been saying how a 1-loss SEC champ would be more worthy than either Boise or TCU. They've been thinking about Alabama, but can easily adjust that to Auburn.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Pretty slim pickings for Gameday next week.

I'm guessing they go to Columbus for Penn State @ Ohio State. If Utah had won today South Bend would have been a good choice.

Edit: In honor of Veterans Day a trip to Annapolis might be in order. How is Army not playing a home game (or Air Force) next week? That's poor planning.

They wouldn't have gone to ND considering they just featured Utah and ND isn't very good. I agree that it will probably be Columbus. Wouldn't be shocked to see them at South Carolina-Florida as the winner goes to the SEC title game. Long shot would be Virginia Tech at North Carolina.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I agree they probably should have gone for it, but I don't know that it was a given to go for it. Michigan only had 7 points in the second half at that point, and had their back-up QB in the game. I don't think it's unreasonable to try and force Michigan to put together a drive there, and worst-case scenario, they were still going to end up with the ball with the game tied and a chance at a game-winning score.
Definitely not a given, for sure. Like I said, that's a tough call. But the thing that kills me about Zook is that he consistently demonstrates he has no feel for flow or momentum -- basically, no feel at all for the game of football.

Just an example (and probably not a perfect one): Belichick's fourth-and-2 didn't work out in Indy, either -- but the game played out exactly as his move suggested he thought it would: with Manning, coming off two consecutive TD drives, carving up a depleted/in-over-its-head secondary to win the game.

It's not that Zook's call didn't work out; it's that the game played out completely the opposite of what he was playing for there. IMO it was a totally tone-deaf call.

Air Force is at home this week, but they play 1-8 New Mexico. Navy hosts Central Michigan in Annapolis. Both would be cool if the road team was any good.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Gameday is officially heading to Columbus next weekend.

And we need TCU/BSU to go to the NC game so that the Rose Bowl isn't required to take a non-BCS team and it opens up the slot to any Pac-10 teams that may end the season with 1 loss. :D

From your lips to the Football Gods ears. ;)

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I also love how ESPN was asking the other day if the Heisman race was over now. Listen, Cam Newton is a great football player, and when all is said and done he may very well be the best player this year. But to ask with a month left if the race is over is a complete joke. Funny how no one was asking if the race was over until the SEC got its clear frontrunner and they were able to pick the best player on that team.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

I wonder how many people have already sent in their ballots though?

The first time your ballot gets sent in before Thanksgiving, your vote should be on probation. The 2nd time, you shouldn't get one.

I thought the race was over when "Shoelace" broke all kinds of records for combined yardage.

Quote from my U of M grad friend:

"It's too bad Ndamukong Suh has no eligibility left - the Univ. of Michigan is looking for a guy who can hit the uprights on field goals." ;)

No, cuz he's not an SEC player. If there was only one SEC team let undefeated in week 3 or 4, though, then their best player automatically wins the Heisman. Of course, it would be unlikely that there would only be one undefeated SEC team in week 3 unless Chattanooga, Troy, Lousiana-Lafayette, and the Citadel all became superpowers overnight.

Auburn plays those teams, but somehow Boise State gets punished for playing Hawai'i, Louisiana Tech and Idaho. Oh logic... you never fail us.

Re: College Football III: We may lose, but we keep the score close!

Only in the minds of about 100,000 Walmart customers in Ann Arbor.

So, you're saying that 4 games into the season, Robinson wasn't the clear frontrunner to win the award?

Uh, OK.

Hell, they shouldn't even mail out the ballots until thanksgiving.
