Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Yah, it's possible one of the Arizona schools wanted to have the traditional northern California Pac Ten rivals instead of Utah and Colorado. Probably likelier than an Oregon or Washington school opposing a plan that likely still gives them a southern California trip every year. For me, I like the idea of Arizona schools being with Utah and Colorado, as they are more natural rivals long term than schools in northern California. And it really would be odd to throw Utah and Colorado in with the Pacific Northwest schools.

I'm just disappointed this lost.

It didn't so much get lose as get kiboshed by Lucas and/or his corporate wing.

True, but at least Lucas had a sense of humor about it. He didn't have his team of lawyers fire off a cease and desist letter or cry about copyright; he told them that Admiral Ackbar was too busy fighting battles on distant planets to make it to sporting events. That was a cool gesture on his part.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Nasty rumor here to report. Just one of those things you just hate to hear to happen to anybody. Word out of Duluth is that Issac Odim blew out his knee in practice yesterday, and is going in for surgury in the morning here to fix it. Most likely done for the season. **** shame too. Kid was easily the front runner for the Harlon Hill award, given out to D2's best football player every year.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

That could be it right there.

Anybody else see this?? Rebel Black Bear

Admiral Akbar is not happy with this.
What was the mascot at that school in Illinois? {heads off to google}

The district's high school is Pekin Community High School.

The school teams were officially known as the Pekin Chinks until 1980 when the school administration changed the mascot to the Pekin Dragons. The team mascot was a student dressed as a Chinese person wearing a coolie hat, who struck a gong when the team scored. An earlier attempt was made by a visit of Chinese American groups to change the name from Chinks during the 1974–1975 school year; this was voted down by the student body. The event received national attention.

I wouldn't have believed that, ever, had it not been for the miracle of Wikipedia

How could they not have gone with Ducks????

There are a number of reports that Pat Haden, USC's AD, opposes splitting the California schools and wants a scheduling format where all the California schools would all play each other every year, even if in separate divisions. His problem is that all for Pacific Northwest schools would roundly oppose that, as it would reduce their trips to the recruiting hotbed of southern California. But, as this ESPN blog notes, maybe some compromise can be reached where revenue sharing is balanced a bit more than it is now. Very interesting.

Also makes you wonder, if all four California schools opposed this setup, who was the fifth vote against it? No obvious candidates in my mind.

Sounds like the seeds of the future breaking of the Pac-10. None of these arrangements are as natural as they seem... because it doesn't necessarily work for all parties.

Do the Michigan State boosters who run the 300 highlights before every game realize that the Spartans lost that battle? In fact, every Spartan was killed. Doesn't seem very inspirational to me.

Illinois up 6-3 on MSU, Arkansas State leading Indiana 14-12. Duke leading Miami 3-0, FSU up 14-6 on BC.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Well this Notre Dame-Western Michigan game looks like it will be a real barnburner.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

This is excellent clock management by Brewster. No TO's, down 11, and they keep throwing 5 yard passes in the middle of the field

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

"Keep the ball? Son, this is the SEC and you're undefeated and the home team. We'll give you points if you just come close to the end zone before getting stripped of the ball."

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

This UT/NEB game is getting fugly. Both teams and the officials...

I know a certain team from idaho is rooting for texas today.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Depsite getting blown out by Pitt, seeing Michigan's D acting like a sieve makes me glad Greg Robinson is nowhere near Central New York.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

The reffing in this Neb/Texas game is horribly inconsistent.

"Keep the ball? Son, this is the SEC and you're undefeated and the home team. We'll give you points if you just come close to the end zone before getting stripped of the ball."

Agreed. How can they not get that call right even with instant replay?

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Nebraska receivers have now dropped four passes that should have been touchdowns. They should be ahead, not trailing 20-6 midway thru the 4th.
