College Football 2024

Ha ha ha... Dude is literally taking his ball and going home (for this season).

So does this set a precedent for guys to walk away from a team where the season implodes early (like Florida State this season) to save their individual value?

The Pac-12 filed a lawsuit in federal court Tuesday challenging the legality of a "poaching penalty" included in a football scheduling agreement it signed with the Mountain West Conference in December.

With Oregon State and Washington State scrambling late last year to fill their 2024 football schedules in the wake of the Pac-12's collapse, they came to terms with the Mountain West on a one-year agreement that added six MWC opponents to each remaining Pac-12 school's schedule this season.

As part of the agreement, the Mountain West included language that requires the Pac-12 to pay a fee of $10 million if a school left the MWC for the Pac-12, with escalators of $500,000 for each additional school.

The bottom is starting to fall out. The dam is starting to break.
whatever cliches you want to use.

Can't wait for all athletes to become employees and sign contracts to prevent all this shady stuff. I do wonder if the athletic departments lose their tax exempt status how many will remain.

It's like taxing the churches. It was fun when it was a license to print money, but once they have to be competitive there will only be about 40 D-1 programs.

Last night was the epic Big Ten showdown between Washington and Rutgers.

I don't think I'll ever get used to that. Even though it's been a while, I'm still not used to Rutgers being in the B1G, and adding a former Rose Bowl foe. Crazy.

(yea, I know I've complained about this before- so get off my lawn)

Mountain West reportedly notified the MAC they are looking at Toledo and NIU to join as football-only members. NIU put out a statement that did not relay any commitment to staying in the MAC. NIU has already left the MAC once before and is out on an island relatively compared to most of the conference (though not really compared to any other conference), so I could see NIU leaving. Don't see Toledo leaving. NIU would probably have to go Horizon or MVC with their other sports.

It might have to be Horizon. They've joined in men's soccer, but the MVC is like 8th or 9th conference in basketball and the MAC is 19th or 20th and NIU was the 2nd worst last year at 298. They'd be next to Valpo at 302 and the next was Evansville at 203. The MVC likes to game the NET (like they did the RPI) to boost seedings and the occasional extra bid and adding a 6-26 team doesn't help.

That game was surreal. First that it was a big ten game, and second that Washington lost

my only hope for gophers today is that Tim walz will do the coin toss

I would be very worried for the MAC if Toledo leaves. Northern Illinois can leave the MAC again. I don't think it is a given that the Horizon/MVC/OVC will take them. The MVC likely won't because their basketball is atrocious, and the OVC and Horizon might not since they are one bid leagues, so why allow another bottom feeder into your league to tank your Pairw....NET.
