College Football 2024

Oh my. Kent State getting massacred in Knoxville.

Wha? What’d I say?

(30-0 with 3 minutes left….in the first quarter. 4 touchdowns and a safety, and they just recovered an onside kick.)

and now it’s 37, end of the quarter.

Indiana is giving UCLA quite the welcome to the B1G. At least we all get more money, eh?

Looks to be IU's first ever win in the Rose Bowl.

65-0, halftime.

I have a bit of a complicated relationship with gopher football (and it’s not because they’ve sucked since I was born).

I lived in the athletes dorm one year and 75% of the residents were football players. I could write a book on the stuff I saw and some of it was awful.

I made some good friends. Some guys were so kind, and some were absolutely terrifying to the point I could not get into an elevator with them.

Friday, we will all be at wayzata high school for the hall of fame induction for Marion barber III.

hopefully more heat stroke deaths will be prevented but I won’t hold my breath.

So I'm watching this USC game here (not live) and noticed yesterday that on BTN, there was a USC's greatest game on as a repeat. A Rose Bowl victory over Michigan.

Meaning BTN and the B1G is now going to claim that they won almost all Rose Bowls, since *most* of the P# participants are now in the B1G. Yea, that's a real thing.

roll eyes.....

(reminds me that BTN also claims dual NC's in 97 with Nebraska and Michigan).

It’s like when a company buys out another. When ITT bought the defense division of Kodak, ITT started advertising how their technology took the first photos on the Moon.

This is all of college football. It was true in the Ivies FFS. It's the jock brain. There are plenty of exceptions, but they are exceptions. The substrate is Russian prison-level malevolent.

The exceptions are pretty something. While I was at Idaho, a WSU football player took an advanced engineering (materials) class that I was in. IIRC, he did quite well. But, sadly, they are very rare, as you point out.

Where I find it kind of interesting are the schools that have zero path to the pros, and the players are still like that. Oh, well.

My sister-in-law tutored some of those types while doing PhD work at South Dakota State. Barely D1 and still convinced they're going to play in the NFL somehow.

I was actually the RA and expected to control them. It was…horrific.

my crowning moment was screaming at glen mason one night after yet another incident.
