Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

And Wazzou beats UCLA. Does anyone want to win the Pac12? No who controls their destiny in the Pac12 South? That's right, USC!

The two gopher fans in our group said the same thing tonight. Claeys needs to figure out his time management. Three weeks in a row he's mismanaged the game. Excellent creativity in the game plan though pulling out all the stops against Iowa tonight.

Yeah, Limegrover has secured his job over the last three weeks.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Of all the teams in contention, oklahoma really has to be kicking themselves. I know it's a rivalry game but losing to that texas team? Blown opportunity.

My ideal scenario has michigan winning big ten, keeping entire conference out. Stanford beating ND to knock them out. Bama somehow losing another game (not likely).

I think bama has easiest path to playoff. Can't see auburn or florida beating them. Where as ohio state has a tougher road. Same with clemson. North Carolina will give them a game.

No mention of Iowa.

I would be super happy to see Michigan play in a Rose Bowl, but regardless what happens on our side of the B1G, Iowa is still there.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Well for michigan to win big ten, they'd have to beat iowa. If teams continue to stumble it would be interesting to see ohio state lose at michigan, not even play in big ten title game and be sitting there with just one loss where as the other contenders might have two. I just want chaos.

By the way, the one reason i like 4 instead of 8 is it's no guarantee you make it as a P5 champ. My fear of going to 8 would be they automatically take the P5 champions which would totally devalue the regular season as there would be no need to play anyone out of conference. And then even if you did it really wouldn't matter. For the final 3 spots yes, but not the big 5 champs.

If Iowa gets to Indy at 12-0, I think worst case scenario they're sent to Pasadena.

If they go 12-0, they are in the playoffs. Especially with how things are starting to play out. At that point, there is no logical argument against that.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Just tired of moral victories. That's all we get in Minnesota. I realize the Gophers have a lot of injuries and were in no way expected to win this game, but I'm just tired of the whole "Well, we kept it close. Yay."

So three top ten teams in a row and you're fed up with a record of 0-3? I'm sorry but most good teams would still walk out of that meat grinder with the same record.

I don't get it. I don't see anyone saying, hey, I'm thrilled with with losing!

What do you propose we do about it?

A loss anywhere, including the B1G Title game, would keep Iowa out of the playoff, but if it happened when they were 12-0 in Indy, I think a loss means Rose Bowl, win and obviously you're in.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

One scenario that intrigues me is if ok state beats baylor and Oklahoma, is that enough to leap ND?

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Agree with MNS, but that scenario would certainly put the Committee to the test.

Make ND the odd team out, and real $$ are left on the table in terms of ratings points, merchandise, etc. But even beyond even the $$, if you're trying to establish a new tradition on New Year's Eve, having ND as one of the invited guests would make your party more of a can't miss.

Re: College Football 2015-16: The Big Ten Rises

Here's the thing, if we're looking at SOS (from the consensus) projected out and not accounting for updated ranks or conference championships, SOS near the top would be (average of FBS oppt ranks, lower is better:
Alabama 41.273
Clemson 56.091
Ohio St. 61.167
Oklahoma 52.667
Notre Dame 52.667
Oklahoma St. 55.818
Florida 60.083
Iowa 65.364
Baylor 58.364
TCU 54.727

So say the teams win out, get to the championship games. You'd have Alabama (Florida), Clemson (North Carolina @ 15) , and Ohio St (Iowa) duking it out in championship games. That would boost Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State almost certainly giving all three berths into the playoffs. There's only one spot available between Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and OSU. Either OSU or Oklahoma will be knocked out the last week. If Oklahoma wins, they would be about tied with Notre Dame for record and SOS. If OSU wins, Notre Dame would likely have the SOS edge by a very slim margin but OSU would own the record. If it comes down to it, OSU should get in if the SOS is reasonably close.

As it stands right now, Ohio St. needs to win out or they should be the team left holding the bag. Only Iowa has a weaker schedule should they beat Ohio State. Alabama, Clemson, OU, Notre Dame, OSU, and Florida all have better SOSs and a similar record. I wouldn't be completely shocked if that would shut the Big Ten out of a playoff berth, especially if they both finish with one loss.

Ok, nix that. I added championship games for the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC. The final standings would look like this without adjusting for game results:
Alabama 38.417
Clemson 52.667
Ohio St. 57.077
Oklahoma 52.667
Notre Dame 52.667
Oklahoma St. 55.818
Florida 55.538
Iowa 60.167
Baylor 58.364
TCU 54.727
