College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

I have a question that I kept forgetting to ask.

Last week I went to the Michigan Tech-Northwood game(I know :p). Michigan Tech has the ball on Northwood's 10 yard line. They run to the 3 yard line and get a first down. After the play Michigan Tech gets called for a dead ball late hit and is moved back to the 18. On third down Tech gets down to the 2 yard line. They are given a first down.

Shouldn't it have been forth down? Tech got a first down and then a penalty occurred. So shouldn't it have been First and Goal from the 18? Please tell me why I'm wrong.:o

Rule 5-2-7:

"The penalty for any dead-ball foul (including live-ball fouls treated as dead-ball fouls and fouls after a free kick down) that occurs after a series ends and before the ball is ready for play shall be enforced before the line to gain is established."

This rule makes it perfectly clear  that the officials got the call right.

Tate? I'm sorry, Toby Gephardt is way better than Tate right now.

Gerhart.

And wow, I still don't know how to process yesterday. I was hoping for a win but never expected that. That first USC fumble changed everything, they went from about to score to giving Stanford its first scoring drive. And this is a team that with Gerhart pounding the ball cant just hold a lead to death. Oh sure the other team can score but they can go down the field and score again and put the lead back where it was. And Sherman with the pick 6! For those that don't know, Sherman was a WR for awhile, but never quite worked out there and was made a CB this year, but he's blown a LOT of coverages (luckily the two big ones against Oregon were dropped), so it was great to see him being the one sticking the final dagger in. And as great as Gerhart and Luck are and all the accolades they are given, the O-line is just amazing this year, in the last 3 games Luck has had little to no pressure and has had time to make the passes he's needed (and when given time he's so ****ing accurate) and Gerhart has huge holes and that is the difference from previous years. I mean, if I told you Stanford-USC had a 5-1 sack difference, would you think it was USC sacked 5 times?

And thanks to Cal for beating Arizona. Now if Arizona, Oregon, and OSU could lose again that would be appreciated.

And Stanford is #14 in the rankings!

So, the question is this week. Does ND keep Frontbutt or do they start shopping around at say Jon Gruden to come in to replace Charlie??

{crosses fingers}Tim Brewster has always dreamed of coaching football at Notre Dame. {crosses fingers}

New BCS rankings:

Really dull season as we wind down here. The only thing of interest is that TCU might be able to hold off Cinci if one one of the top three slips up.

Cincy continues to be 3rd in the computer rankings, ahead of Texas. I'm rooting for them at this point. It's probably pointless, but I'm a closet Bearcat fan right now.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

That may be...but when the Gophs played him ESPN slobbered over him like he played for Notre Dame :p

....And it was the first game of the year.

....And the Gophers stink at football.

....And Greg Paulus shouldn't be playing football.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

(he also beat Greg Paulus aka the Outstate NY BretFavre!)
Upstate.

NY'ers don't use weird terms like "outstate" to refer to people actually living in the same state. :p

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

This is the first time both teams have been solid going into the Big Game in god knows how long. Sometime in the early-mid nineties i think.

Yeah seriously this should be one heck of a game. I got my signs and my streamers ready. Cal is the one possibly playing the spoiler, that's a first in my time here. Oh, and thanks for beating Arizona!

I'd be shocked if Weis is back next season.

My personal preference (assuming that Stoops hasn't burned out at OU) is Kelly, but there are a lot of Gruden fans out there too.

Anybody but Kelly please!!! :o

I love Kelly, but hate ND. I'm hoping Kelly will stay on at Cincy for another year or two until another big job, say like something in the State of Michigan was to open up perhaps.

He's going to coach the Gophers, well, only if they can't get Dungy.:p

There were issues that kept Kelly from being seriously considered last time. Why would those have changed now?

The only knock Kelly had on him at the time was that he's only been an HC at Central Michigan and Grand Valley State. Now that Kelly has had a few years at a Big East school, and basically took a basketball school into a football school within a year, Michigan wouldn't have much problems taking him if Rich Rod doesn't pan out soon.

In a long wondered question when replay officials brutally get decisions wrong over and over again...

Stewart Mandel says:

But at least we may have one possible explanation. In that same Birmingham News article, national officiating coordinator David Parry made the astounding revelation that replay officials -- unlike millions of fans watching from home -- do not use HD television monitors. An administrator at Friday night's game told me conferences are looking to upgrade for next season but are concerned about the cost. Note: You will each be receiving upwards of $17 million from the BCS this season; try taking a cut out of that. Or, better yet, here's an idea: Is there any particular reason why replay officials actually need to be at the stadium? Why not set up a couple of guys in someone's living room with a remote, a cell phone and a 60-inch plasma screen? Do something. These days the ref in those Buffalo Wild Wings commercials is getting more calls right.

(11-15) 04:00 PST Los Angeles - -- When Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll met at midfield after Stanford completed its 55-21 defenestration of USC here Saturday, their conversation was brief, pointed and seemingly unsatisfying.

"What's your deal? What's your deal?" Carroll said, according to two sources near enough to hear.

"What's your deal?" Harbaugh retorted, and that was that.
