College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Harbaugh was taunting USC fans and players. Plus he went for 2 when USC clearly just took the foot off the gas last year. I imagine USC will and should take it personally and maybe next year the defense might show up.

There are two schools of thought: going for two is classless, and the other school of thought is if you want to stop them from blowing you out, stop them on the field and take your lumps.

Carroll's never been afraid to run up the score in other years, so he should learn to take his own medicine.

Don't talk ****, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. USC has never gone for two up big just to try and get to some number.

When does USC run up the score? Running the ball and continuing to score with backups is fine, but going for two? That's ridiculous.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Running up the score is running up the score. This year USC is getting USCed, you have to see what it's like for the other side for a few years, deal with it.

You seriously think going for two is the same as just running out the clock? You are delusional.

Yeah, yeah, OK, maybe not.

In the end, Harbaugh just seems to love getting under Carroll's skin, and it's hard not to get a little amused by that. Harbaugh-Carroll is shaping up to be a fun Pac-10 rivalry. And if USC wants to take it personally, bring it, we're not living in fear anymore! :)

I don't mind losing, but Harbaugh needs to win some class.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

If he keeps succeeding, he won't stay at the Farm much longer.

The big news today though is that they're finalizing keeping him through 2014: http://www.detnews.com/article/2009...SPORTS08/Stanford-aiming-to-keep-Jim-Harbaugh.

Here's hoping! It's not just that the team has gotten better, it's his attitude. Walt Harris seemed bored to be at games. The worst was in the 2006 Big Game when despite being 1-10 and a 30 point underdog, we were down by like 9 midway through the 4th, and Harris just keeps punting instead of going for it. Listen, Walt, your career is most likely over here, but here's a chance to make one last statement before you go in the biggest game of the year, but no I understand you have to get home before you fall asleep on the sidelines. Then Harbaugh comes in talking about "enthusiasm unknown to mankind" and of course after the 1-11 season everyone got a good laugh about that, since roughly a dozen people on campus were still aware we had a football team at that point (though that did mean lots of arm room for those of us still going). But he got the team better bit by bit each year and more importantly he seemed excited, he was always jumping up and down and yelling on the sidelines and seemed like he wanted to play, he wanted to win, he wanted to be there. He got the players excited, he got them excited to help recruit other players, he somehow got a formerly 1-11 team to get a couple of the higher rated recruiting classes in the past couple years. Granted he's still a newcomer to it all and needs to polish himself a little more, but I'm glad to know he had at the least a few more years to do that here.

Also, note by the performace of Stanford and Pitt this weekend how well teams can do by getting Walt Harris the hell away from them.

Only Frenchie will care about this but this is the first big game since 1991 where both teams had at least seven wins entering the contest.

Strangely 1991 was the last time Cornell played a BCS level conference foe:

1991
"The Big Red travelled to Division I Stanford to celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of its sister school from the West. The Cardinal win 56-6."

4 years in Ithaca and I never heard of this connection. A good thing to as might have applied for a transfer that day:p

Yeah it seems to have gone in streaks for either team for quite some time, needless to say this will be quite a big one. For me it's like oppositeland with Stanford favored, I don't quite know how to take it. But it's a rivalry game so all of that means nothing, but I'm sure neither team is overlooking it.

Oh yeah, there's a lot of Cornell-Stanford history. Even now it seems like there are lots of conferences and cooperative work done between groups at the two schools. And they help ensure I never go to a school with an actual mascot.

Frenchy, just make sure your team puts a dagger in Notre Dame for us all, OK?

Cornell and Stanford have been in bed together for how long? And we still don't have a PTHC?

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

Cornell and Stanford have been in bed together for how long? And we still don't have a PTHC?

Once Phil Knight builds Oregon's brand new arena, University of British Columbia enters the NCAA, and USC out of sheer jealousy adds a program, we should be good to go.

The PTHC is basically inevitable at this point.

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

In a long wondered question when replay officials brutally get decisions wrong over and over again...

Stewart Mandel says:

That would explain if they were failing to overturn calls that should be overturned, but it doesn't explain them making **** up out of nothing and overturning calls on the field on a whim rather than the required standard of "indisputable video evidence".

Re: College Football 2009: Bowl College Stupidity Rankings

He'll only do that if someone can promise that the Oregon teams will fall apart in the second half of the season in his quest to buy national championships.

and design uniforms that make eyes bleed. I'm thinking something yellow with a barbed wire covered helmet.
