College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

Penn State and Alabama play each other in 2010 and 2011. The Lions go south next year, with Bama coming here in 11.

Alabama played a series with Penn State from 1981-1990. Other than that, the Crimson Tide has come north...um....never - assuming the 1951 game they lost to Villanova and the 1946 loss to Boston College were down south. Alabama has played a home and home with UCLA (2000-01) and USC (1970-71 and 75-76).

'bama played at Notre Dame in '87.

Notre Dame played LSU in 84, 85 and 86. Do you know if those were neutral site games, or did someone agree to a 2-1 split?

84 was at LSU. 85 at ND, 86 at LSU.

If your point is that losing to Navy is an utterly unforgiveable failure on the order of losing to a Rice or Vandy, you're selling Navy short. They lost o Ohio State by 4 and are headed to 10-3.

If the Irish win out they'll have beaten a couple hot teams and they'll be rightfully somewhere 21-25.

Stop.

It's because they have three losses each and I never want to hear about them as being "serious" contenders ever again and get some bogus ranking thrown around like it means something. You can talk up the Ohio State game all you want, but they were lucky to get by Purdue and Washington. You can't have it both ways - this team blows.

If it's just about them having 3 losses, then I have no problem with the argument. I still think they'll be ranked, though, if they win out.

Poll votes shouldn't be based upon futures, this isn't the stock market.

No clue, I've been to one game at Notre Dame and it happened to be the 'bama game in '87. :)

And yet your heart bleeds for TCU. :p

Not really. They're up to #4 in the BC$, ahead of Boise (and Cincy). But the last I knew, no one was arguing that the Mountain West was the best conference in the country...

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

TCU played at Virginia and at Clemson. Won both.

Auburn played WVU at home.

I'm giving the OOC edge to TCU.

Who cares about Auburn?

William and Freaking Mary played UVA at Charlottesville. And won. And they're not even the best FCS team in Virginia.

If you're TCU, and you want to compete, you need to find a way to play someone big. Anyone. UVA is not that team. Clemson is closer - but in the sort of way that Neptune is closer to the sun than Pluto is. And then there's Texas State.

None of the SEC power house teams want to play TCU because they might actually lose. Better to play a small-conference also-ran or a Division I-AA team and impress those voters than actually play football against someone good.

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

TCU doesn't have to play an SEC team. They could play a decent Big 10 team. Or a decent Pac 10 team. Or a decent Big 12 team. If your schedule is cake to begin with, you *do* need to do more to impress voters than a team in one of the major conferences.

As for the SEC, I give up. We've already established that they're never going to satisfy the USCHO crowd. :)

Re: College Footbal 2009: Anybody want to be in the Top 5?

BSU has the right idea. They did all right this year. 2010 looks a little better. It would be a shame if they can't find a game for 2011, but I'll hold off before decrying it as a trend.

It's one team and an anomaly at that, but it does speak volumes about the BC$.
