College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

Minnesota by 6 over #3 Purdue with under 8 minutes to go (BTN). Although it's at home, this would still be the kind of big time win they need to push for a tournament bid.

Robbie Hummel left the game and is now on crutches.

Big win for Notre Dame over a ranked Pittsburgh team tonight (w/o Harangody in the lineup who has missed the past few). If they win 2 of their next 3 (@ Gtwn, Conn, at Marq) they could help their chances of making the tourny. Would be a big help if they pull off a win or two in what will no doubt be a difficult Big East tournament.

I knew they never should have been ranked ahead of Syracuse. I am still scratching my head over that.

I hope Hummel is OK. He's a good player. I have a soft spot for Purdue beacuse my great uncle played for them.

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

MN takes a stupid foul defending a 3-1 a few plays ago letting Purdue lead. MN gets the lead back and now Purdue again by 1 with 4+ seconds to go.

Last play of the game coming up, MN ball. This is where a team like MN fails 99% of the time.

Edit: and thats exactly what happens. MN blows about a 10th game where they lead late to lose.

Syracuse has more wins and less losses than Purdue. Plus, Cuse's body of work is better. I may be a homer, but someone needs to explain this to me.

The only reason I can come up with is that Syracuse has a more recent loss...although they didn't loose 3 in a row like Purdue did. Unless they loose a couple of games to finish out the season and play poorly in the BE tournament (which I don't foresee) Syracuse should get a #1 seed for the big dance. Wouldn't be surprised to see the BE get a few 2 or 3 seeds as well (Gtown, Pitt, Nova, WVU). Could get 7 or 8 teams in depending on how things shake out (those already listed as well as Marquette and Louisville and then maybe one from UConn, Cincy, Seton Hall and Notre Dame)

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

I can almost guarantee you some voters are still thinking about Syracuse's loss in that "exhibition" game prior to the season. Not fair in any way shape or form, but possbily some bias in place because of that loss.

I didn't know where to put this, but since Ole Miss may be changing its rebel logo to Admiral Akbar. I found their new fight song.

Seems that not running everything through Harangody is working pretty well for the team. They looked balanced and fast vs. what they look with him on the court.

I'd get him ready for the BE tourney as they'll need him...see what SU did to VU with the size advantage. LH can eat up some space and get some rebounds but if he takes 25 shots then they lose.

There's rumbling that Harangody could be done for the season.

As much as I would hate to lose the things that he does really well, the team really seems to have hit its stride without him over the last three games. Size-wise, I'm not sure it's a huge difference to have him out; he's undersized for the role he's asked to play on the team, and particularly when Cooley or Broghammer come in, the team is actually bigger than when Harangody was playing; both of them have at least a couple inches on him.

I was thinking width more than height when it comes to Harangody...somebody that can body up with the big guys in the paint.

Harangody doesn't really do that well, though. He's very good at defensive rebounding, but that's the only thing he does well on the defensive end of the court.

Why is it UCONN 20, Notre Dame 24 with 17 minutes left in THE 2ND HALF?

Cornell clinched the Ivy League tonight, becoming the first official tournament team. They also made 20 3-pointers in the game.

They could be a tough out in the tourney. I hope the commitee doesn't stick them with a double digit seed.

Pomeroy ranks them 70th. So purely on quality, they certainly should have a double-digit seed.

Re: College Basketball 2009-10: The Road to the Road to Lucas Oil

28/64 teams in the tourney are double digit seeds. So that's a 43.75% chance that Cornell is ranked 10-16. :p

I know a #1 seed may sweat it if Cornell is an 8 or 9 and they get by the first game. They shoot the 3 well and have a solid big man.
