Colgate and Starr's last season

Streamed some of the game. Seemed like we played more up tempo, but maybe that was just my video feed. Yes, defense needs some work, but overall with two frosh in the lineup thought we played pretty well for beginning of season.

Was impressed with Brooks and Racine, looks like Weberg has stepped up also. Let's go out and sweep them tonight.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

We needed those two wins heading into some very strong opposition the next two weeks. No Spink points last night , all secondary scoring. The offense is doing more than their share, a lot of surprises. Borkowski five goals, how about Panowyck with five assists, Freeman three goals, Brooks four assists.

Not so sure about the back end, we were badly outshot better than two to one in the third period in both games, not good. I think Finn saved our bacon both games, this has to change quickly.

I think we find out a lot about this team in the next two weeks, national champion Providence, and Q-Pac is 6-0 and looking like a national powerhouse. What a Saturday (Halloween) with Fordham for maybe the Patriot League eventual champion.

Good student turnout Friday. Did anyone make the trip to RIT? Their new rink has me excited of what's to come in Hamilton. Rochesters game experience was very over produced but their rink has some nice features that would be great in Class of 65 rink. Not sure the possibility but a video board flashing replay would be pretty amazing.

Great job on the boys completing the sweep.

In other news, the Ducks play the Blackhawks tonight. Chris Wagner is still on the active roster for the Ducks, but Kyle Baun has been sent down to the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate. It's too bad, I was really hoping to see Chris vs. Kyle tonight.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Listening to the broadcast and our very own raspy Raider announcer was fantastic! The atmosphere at RIT is electrifying, so to come away with the win was quite a coup. Impressed that others stepped up when the Spinks could not. And a nice Raiders pic on the front page of USCHO today to boot ;-)

Have no idea about the bells and whistles on the inside of '65 arena, but only 1 chance to get this right. UNO spent $85 million on its multi-sport complex...but good things can still come in small packages!

I hope we don't have one of those Jumbotrons, unless it's real small and off to one side. I hate the way they dominate a baseball game on the field :(

I agree that a jumbotron could be overkill (like the RIT goal horn). But like TchrBill said....good things can come in small packages. Looking forward to seeing what's to come. i remember seeing great details on Penn States site when their finishing touches were complete. I hope the promotion will follow as details on the inside of '65 unfold.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

The webcam will be moving inside the new rink once it's enclosed. This eventually will show the new scoreboard etc. It was very interesting watching the progress on Penn State's rink.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

While we're on the topic of jumbotrons and scoreboards, I hope the scoreboard at the new rink actually shows the opponent's name above their score. The one at Starr says "Guest" when all other league rinks (excluding Union, don't know about Princeton) display the opponent name.

I'd rather not have a jumbotron.

Chris Wagner must be the designated "goon" for the Ducks. He had 7 hits - most on the team, over 8 minutes of ice time, 3 lost face offs, and one shot. If he keeps this up he should be getting more into the games in the future. Still, it's sad he's not playing on Starr ice. :-(

A lot of the reasoning for that is that the name of the team is an electronic display at most places, while at Union, Princeton, and Starr (and I thought SLU was this way as well given their scoreboard is a bit on the older side, but I can always check for sure in a week and a half), it's a fixed display. I imagine a new scoreboard will electronically display the team names, which would satisfy your wish. And maybe your new scoreboard's timer will display tenths of a second for the final minute, too. ;)

Don't be surprised to see a jumbotron, as it's the "new hotness".

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I think the new 'hotness' would be a Colgate drone flying overhead instead of a blimp to catch all of the action ;-)
Would never object to a new jumbotron...at Andy Kerr! Wish it could happen.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Well after 2 mandatory wins over RIT we are receiving the exact same amount of votes in the USCHO poll; 3. I like the play of Tim Harrison right now as I was hoping for since the beginning. He seems to be faster and more skilled than in previous years, his first goal really shows that from the video and I thought so as well Friday night although he did not tally any points. If he keeps going hard he will produce some quality points throughout the year.

Our defense truly scares me with some of these freshman right now. This week we have #3 Providence who is extremely talented and still has a lot of draft picks on their team. A win over Providence will go a long way down the road for confidence for this team as well as the pairwise if this team hopes to make the NCAAs. I never say this but a loss and a tie would not be the worst thing either. A sweep will really hurt especially with red-hot Qunnipiac coming to town the following Friday who seems to get the best of us most of the time at Starr.

I hope to see the students out in full force again as we saw last Friday.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Parents w/e up at the Gate. Not sure whether that helps or hurts with attendance. I'll be there, looking forward to my first games of the year!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Gate83... About time you came to Hamilton for a weekend !:D

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I think Finn needs to stay in his crease this weekend. When he leaves the cage and plays the puck behind the net, awful things happen. Thankfully, our penalties and pk have been reformed a bit. Scoring first would be a huge relief; RIT played catch-up all game which is a daunting task for any team. Colgate is patient but deliberate and somewhat opportunistic. Not so worried about getting 45 shots on goal so long as we play smart. I'd be more concerned if Gillies was still in net!

Good luck 'Gate
