Colgate and Starr's last season

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Know I haven't posted much, but just wanted to echo Rainman's comment about RPI TV -- knowledgeable announcers and high-quality feed, even on my handheld. And it was free to boot. Great job! Wish we had something like that at Colgate.

All men's and women's hockey home games are free on the Patriot League Network with HD video. This has been the case for several years.

I assume only one camera angle, maybe one or two close-ups? I usually don't get a chance to watch the PLN because I attend the corresponding games of interest personally, and don't usually see cameras in the corners when I walk in. RPI TV uses five camera angles: one is the wide view, two for a close-up at the general angle of the wide view, three and four are in the corners on the RPI bench side, and five at least was a hand-cam from the catwalk; it's used for the overhead shots. Is the new arena going to have the ability to house something similar?

At Starr I believe we have only two cameras. One at the 50 yard line up on the scafolding, and one in the Zamboni corner of the ice. It would be nice to have a setup like RPI in the '65 Arena.

I don't think the Harvard and Dartmouth games will have video, as the camera icons on the 'Gate athletic website schedule are blanked out.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I just looked at the schedule page on the website & the camera icons are there. Though I'll be looking for Shabby in Section 9...

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I'll be there, prob not behaving. It's been way too long to see a home game. Hope it's not the Vesey show, but looking forward to seeing him.

If the First Lady doesn't veto it, I'm planning on the D'mouth game. Not sure I want to see Haavad in person. Our Friday nite games are usually meh.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

So does anyone think that Vaughn is going to a platoon system or was last Saturday night a planned night off. I was surprised to see Finn out of the goal on Saturday after his solid performance at Union. The only explanation I can come up with is that Finn will get Friday's and Hamilton Saturday's until one of them separates themselves. Any thoughts?

Right now it looks like he may do that based off what we saw in Maine and then at the capital district. I have been preaching for some time now that he needs to give Hamilton or Racine a real shot. Finn got the win at Union but look what Ken Schott had to say about that recap from his Gazette post, "Colgate goalie Charlie Finn was shaky the first 40 minutes. Several Union shots were sneaking through him and landing in the crease, only to have the Raiders clear them away. But when the Dutchmen needed to keep testing Finn in the third period, they failed miserably. The had nine shots on goal, but nothing of quality."

Looking at my CHN app we are 54th (out of 60) in goals against at 3.58 per game. This is by far our worst statistic, we our 9th on the PP and 31st in goals per game. These stats should show a team in the top 30 in the pairwise that can be competitive each night if we had some consistent goaltending.

We had a great past weekend and I am hoping for at least 2 points this weekend and for this team to be competitive every night. Home ice in the first round could go a long way and nobody wants to be on the bottom even if the ECAC is one of the best 2 leagues this year IMO. If our fire power shows up and we get some goaltending we could defintely be a team you don't want to play in the playoffs.

Forgot to mention... RPI-TV recently put cams inside the bottom of the nets. Perhaps another angle to include?

RPI in 2-2 OT tie with QU last night AT QU. Comparitively speaking it just shows we can play with the best! :)

That's why they play the game. Anyone can win on any given night. Might also explain the insane logjam in the standings right now.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

We only lost to Q-Pac 3-2 and it was 2-2 going into the third.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I agree rain, it was just two different teams playing two separate games. They had a strong offense with precision and purpose. We were a fast break transition team looking for mistakes in a frantic rush up the ice. Obviously they came out on top but overall we had a game plan and played it well, just put one (I'm not counting the empty net) too few goals in the net

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Two or three minutes at the end of the 2nd period were scary. We could not get the puck out of our end, and Harvard was dominating us totally. Fortunately a goal was not scored, but I hope we don't have such stretches in future games. We had our chances - hit a pipe and had some good rushes, but at times we looked out of sync. With a short bench I guess we have to expect lapses, but they usually come back to bite us.

Hopefully we can take it to Dartmouth tomorrow. They are playing great right now, knocking out Cornell, 3-0 tonight; it will be a real challenge.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I thought we played a pretty good game last night. We really had our chances but it seemed like every chance we had we hit Madsen with the puck. Brooks zinged a slapper off the post in the third, Murphy missed a breakaway in the second. Harvard's winning goal was tipped in by Crisculo in front who was fronted by our dman and the puck somehow was deflected in midair by a surprised Crisculo, watch the replay. A break here or there and who knows?

Certainly nothing to be embarrassed about, the way our year's going. Harvard's forwards are very fast and skilled, "almost" fun to watch.

Shoutout to Borkowski who was plus 2 last night, Panowyck such an effort and impressed with Dauda, he's tremendous on faceoffs.

Another streaking team coming in tonight as Dartmouth is 6-1 since the break.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

shabby is your tag line in reference to a recruit?

some untimely penalties and it could have been a different game. finn looked ok but i wouldn't be surprised if hamilton gets the start tonight...at least i hope he does. when the spinks don't score, we suffer, plain and simple. when vesey scores, ENG or not, forget it. congrats to the big green on a s/o at lynah...nothing like sending their faithful home without anything to cheer about

watched the rpi @ qu game feed on thurs...engineers up 3-1 with under 6min to go, and then they self-destructed with :09 to play

hope the WHOC team can make it a 3-pt w/e

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Ughhh, swept at home!

Even worse, we had a 2-0 lead! And now we have to play 6 of our next 7 on the road! I sure hope this isn't another slippery slope...

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

We played well both games and could have won either or both. We didn't,but the quality of play is what you want and the effort by Tyson (I think) diving for the puck to prevent an empty net goal was great to see. Almost helped us get a tie. No matter where we are seeded in the playoffs if we play this type of hockey we can make placid again. We have to win the tournament to get in so I'm just looking for games like tonight to give the team hope and confidence going into the playoffs

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

First time seeing the team in person. We played well; we're better than our record. It's just that our opponents lately have been a notch better. We didn't get the bounces last night but the effort was there, and we had a lot of chances, especially in the third period. We can fly once we get out of our defensive zone.

Dartmouth is slippery, shifty, and fast. I haven't checked their roster but it seemed like they were a bunch of smurfs, snaking their way down, through, and around us. They were hard to pin down against the boards and seemed to have eyes behind their heads as far as passing. Good breakout team as well. Not hard to see how they beat Cornell on Friday. (Why are a lot of their players from PA and NJ?) We got bottled up a few times in our zone and they found the unchecked player. I think we hit a pipe once. The Spinks looked fast, and set up some good times at the doorstep. Four goals in less than the first 10 minutes of the game! It looked like a 10-8 game to me, but then settled down. Giving up the lead like that is deadly.

I was impressed by Willie Brooks, who I was glad to see played on the D with the Spinks. I think as he matures he's going to being a lot to the game. Gotta great shot. Dauda looked good too; his faceoff numbers are outstanding.

We need to take at least 3 pts in the North Country to jump up in the standings and give us a chance to stay home in the first round (obviously).
