Colgate and Starr's last season

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Great win for many reasons, IMO. The boys needed it mentally. It was a road victory. It was a come from behind win. The team continues to play with a VERY short bench and still found a way to win. A plus for me, watching on the Union broadcast, was listening to Dan Fridgen doing color. Go Gate!!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Does anyone know what the story is on Freeman, missed fourteen games??

Concussion? I don't know for sure but (A) I remember reading about us having injuries in late November and (B) previous players that suffered concussions ended up missing at least two months (Kevin McNamara in 2011-12, and both Tylor Spink and Andrew Black last season).

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

A great win last night, can we put three together? If Freeman has a concussion it's been at least two months, hope he's ok.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Not impossible to have players with minus ratings when you give up more goals than any other team in the league. Harrison's accolades notwithstanding, when the Spinks score, we give ourselves a chance to win. The stats are not impressive otherwise. More than happy to go 1-1 on the road but hoping for more. Dauda already making a difference. Seems every year is a year with a short bench and it is getting frustrating!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Great to see Tim Harrison get some goals. Adam Dauda seems to be quite sharp at the face off dot. Nice to see us come from behind in the 3rd....takes grit. We were out shot but won by being opportunistic. Just shows the game is never over; 16 seconds can make a huge difference. On to Troy!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Another good game by us. I watched the second and third periods, we played a so so second but a good third. Racine best game at Colgate and Hamilton was very good ! Best RPI team I've seen in years. Three points was a tremendous weekend.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

What a difference a weekend makes, right now we'd have a playoff series at Starr. Nice weekend

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Great 3-pt weekend! We've now moved up in the PWR from 46 to 43; the tie dropped RPI from 16 to 18 ;)

It was an entertaining yet nerve-wracking game that could have gone either way. RPI outshot us and played good defense. After years at the bottom, you can see why they are at the top. Colgate had many soft, cute passes and turnovers behind its own blue line and many cross-ice passes were off target. Getting the puck across center ice was a challenge at times. Perhaps the most impressive stat of the night for the Raiders was not taking a penalty, which could have spelled doom. That was tremendous b/c we came close to the box on several occasions. Also think Colgate was opportunistic and could have won as well.

There were 2 goals called off; no video replay on the scoreboard/jumbotron and no explanation by the announcer. It was frustrating. After watching the recap, both calls seemed legit with a man in the crease.

The tying goal was a terrific play that saw Kasdorf spread eagle with a juicy rebound; Hamilton, on the other hand, played a brilliant game. The first goal he gave up by Bubela was a sad consequence of our defense letting him go coast to coast and skating around them, just awful. This is a general statement, but over the years, Colgate seems more passive than aggressive and plays the puck, not the body. I remember the days when our physicality (a new word I hear all the time that sounds ridiculous) would take it to everybody!

Harvard got pasted by lackluster Clarkson, so there is hope next weekend! Dartmouth always gives us fits. You heard it here first, and I don't even get paid for my insightful contributions: keep Vesey off the scoresheet and we have a fighting chance!

Congrats to Racine, Hamilton, and the Raiders
Go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I only saw the first period, but we seemed to be taking and giving punishment equally. ( Nice video feed from RPI - thanks Engineers!)

Break up the line of Racine-Dauda-Peterson :) Nice weekend that vaults us up the standings and in position to take 4 pts next weekend.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

I didn't see or listen to either game this past weekend, but I'm happy we got 3 pts out of 4 - on the road! Perhaps we've turned a corner?

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

A tip of the hat to Colgate...hard to believe, after watching last night's game on top of the comeback at Union, that the Raiders' record is unimpressive. RPI looks very solid this year. Colgate is every bit as solid. The distinction, in one context, between most of the DI teams is negligible. Last night was testament to that fact.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Finally got around to watching the video highlights from this past weekend's games. Surprisingly, there were THREE waved off goals on Saturday, TWO of them potential RPI goals? I kinda want to say we stole a point from the Engineers, but based on the video replays (Thank you RPI TV, you do a fantastic job!), the refs made the right calls.

If I've figured this correctly we would play Princeton at home in a first round series as they stand today. If we won that we'd be up against QU.

Of course things aren't going to stay the same, hopefully.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Know I haven't posted much, but just wanted to echo Rainman's comment about RPI TV -- knowledgeable announcers and high-quality feed, even on my handheld. And it was free to boot. Great job! Wish we had something like that at Colgate.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Does anyone know why Brooks is out of the lineup? he had played in most of the games but has not for the last handful.
Thanks.

Teams get re-seeded after the 1st and 2nd rounds, so Q would actually get the lowest surviving seed based on regular season finish. If the regular season ended today, and if we beat Princeton in the 1st round, but if Brown were to also win its 1st-round series, we'd go to RPI in the 2nd round

Thanks.

Where is Andrew Black? And McGuire? Are they healthy scratches? Seems like Black had a lot of upside; can't believe he's not playing. And Willie Brooks has 15 BLKs - one of the highest number on the team. He played a lot as Hoser said.

Rainman: Sorry. As usual I got it all wrong! :(

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

We finally have a player with a plus rating, Dauda is plus 1 and six assists in six games. Not too shabby !

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Is there a qualifying statistic though (for goalies it is that they have to have played a quarter of the teams games?) haha

Wouldn't be surprised if the design of the new rink had camera angles in mind.
