Colgate and Starr's last season

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Year after year Gate teams have underachieve. Everyone on this post blames 1. goalies, 2. defense, 3. forwards. There has been one consistent factor over the time of underperformance- Don. Time for him to retire to let Gate get a capable coach to make something happen in the new arena.

Gee, no one complained much when we went to LP last season under DV.

Just saw the score. Can't believe we've given NU their two wins so far. Couldn't have been a very happy flight home from Belfast :(

I say again, it's never too late to have a good season with the present ECAC post-season setup. All we need to do is work hard, improve every week and be ready to sweep through the post-season in Placid. Hey, look at how the FB team improved weekly and have made it to the second round of the FCS playoffs :) Anything can happen.

Agree, and agree! We knew it was going to be a rough start.

Article today on Belfast tourney, writer says we're fighting injuries. New recruit Snodgrass is from USHL, do you believe it ?

Do you have a link to that article?

We played some tough competition from October 30 through November 21. But after getting outscored 12-1 by two teams with TWO wins COMBINED (not including any wins against us), I am convinced that there is something wrong with this team, at least for now. Losing two players that could have been seniors this year, coupled with Adam Dauda's medical issues forcing him to defer his enrollment to next season has given us a very thin roster with 23 players, when you typically dress 21. So the writing was on the wall that this could be a difficult season, especially in the early going. But I didn't think we'd come to a crashing thud like this.

What's even more strange to me is that this season so far is panning out similarly to the 2010-11 season. Prior to that season, we lost a forward-heavy senior class that really showed its presence in the overall aspect of the game, not necessarily on the scoresheet. Last year's seniors were a similar group, playing key roles in our success the past two seasons. The good news is that after this weekend, we have a break in the schedule. But these next two games are league home games, and are we still capable of pulling out a win or two and prevent digging ourselves into a deeper hole?

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Colgate allows a roster of just 25. IMHO, the University needs to really look at that number. The new rink is fabulous and should help with recruiting, etc., but at the end of the day, you can only expect so much from a short bench, year in and year out and that is excluding injuries. The showing in Belfast was embarrassing for the school. Nobody feels worse than the Coaches and players. Time to remove one of the many handicaps our program endures.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

In speaking of the rink, looks like the insulation on the walls are almost up, and just in time, as it was snowing when driving home over the weekend.

Rain, the article is on page one today, Revisiting Belfast TMQ.

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Thanks. I'm thinking both Derek Freeman and Sebastian Weberg are both hurt right now, since in the past several games (A) both have been scratches and (B) we've seen Rory McGuire and Cameron Radziwon dress. McGuire is a defenseman and Radziwon was a late-addition to the roster after Adam Dauda deferred his enrollment. So as much as I hate to say it, we're in a terrible bind right now, roster-wise, and hopefully the upcoming break will allow us to reset and get healthy.

But before the break we've got the Nights and Larries :(

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

The article tries to put things in perspective; what I respect most were Coach V's comments about Finn and Weinreb's interpretation: that the Raiders will live or die with him in net. Guess that says it all, so what do I know. Vaughan is there all day, every day, and obviously knows the talent and work ethic of his players. Would like to hear which ones are officially out due to injury. Every year there seems to be an obstacle to overcome: Spiro, draft picks (Wagner, Baun, Johnston)...hard to have consistency. Wish Wilson could have stayed a 5th year.

How does Qpac do it? Year in, year out, in the upper half of the league as far as I can tell. They beat ranked teams, host the playoffs, have great fan support and attract tremendous recruits (Anas will be a thorn for how much longer? Don't forget Brandon Wong, Eric Lampe, Erik Hartzell, Beaudoin, Kellen & Connor Jones, Tolkinen, Matt Peca, Garteig, St. Denis...). They don't recharge, they reload.

Hope the Raiders can right the ship and get to .500 soon. Great bunch of guys and we know they work hard. And they go to Colgate, which needs no explanation!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Is the rink bringing in recruits or are we desperate for bodies ? We lose five this year, so far bringing in Ten new recruits for next year. And that doesn't include Dauda who's not on the Heisenberg's list, maybe because he was listed on this year. So, eleven so far and five more in upcoming years including a freshman in high school. (sixteen)

At least next year we won't be short for bodies, hope some are quality!

Re: Colgate and Starr's last season

Chris Wagner scored AGAIN last night in a 2-1 Avs win over the Rangers. He's now notched 3 goals in the two weeks he's been with Colorado.
