Colgate 23-24

Gotta love Clarkson St Lawrence rivalry. I think we will be very focused next weekend with eyes in the prize. KK has to keep her nose clean though...

Just listened to Kalty's podcast and per JWS's note above I agree it was really good. Her personality is engaging and her journey was unique for sure. I was particularly interested in her discussion about being strong and how that often works against her in games. With the PWHL struggling with how much physicality to allow to make the game more exciting it sounds like college hockey is experiencing a similar evolution with multiple schools of thought. That said, when Kalty plays she has to realize it's like the strike zone in baseball, it's different each game and she has to quickly intuit the rules for the game she's in. If a ref is calling a tight game BE AWARE especially if the game is important. We need you! One thing I wish they asked her but didn't is why she has decided not to play for Czech for the last few years after being a star on the Women's National team in the past. Personal reasons are always cited, but there has to be an interesting backstory...

Looking forward to the exciting Groundhog Day weekend match-ups up north among the current top four in the ECAC -- Colgate (#1) at Clarkson (#2), and Cornell (#4) at St.Lawrence (#3). Then switching up the travel partners the next night.

Four solid teams, all capable of winning on any night.

I really enjoyed the interview as well. It was interesting to hear about Kalty's journey with hockey. Hoping for a strong series up north next weekend.

Not sure I knew she was coming back for postgrad. Comes across very humble and is very easy to admire. She states that Colgate is always the underdog, and that is my feeling, too. But ranked No. 4 with a PWR as high as 2, what will it take for Colgate to change that? We can’t change conferences. Was curious to know if she was recruited by other schools. I don’t mind her tough play; she has a huge target on her back and is sharp enough to know that her aggressiveness can jeopardize the whole team.

I had seen an article where she was talking about education and got the sense she might stay another year. Given how Danielle has often gotten the brighter spotlight for her tremendous career, Kalty certainly deserves a shot at putting the career goals scored number somewhere into the stratosphere where it never will be broken. Total points is another story and that's Danielle's prize.
It will be fun to see K as the team leader as well...
Whenever she leaves she'll be a top 5-10 draft selection in the PWHL and a star in that league.
Hope she wins a national championship first though. With luck this could be our year. Next weekend is the start. Making a statement in the North country would be huge.

We're without 3 stars and it has hurt us big time but Clarkson's energy seems twice ours in the first. Biggest butt kicking in a period this year...

We were never in this game. We could get nothing going offensively as they play such good team D and really missed Kalty and especially Sydney M.

Great sweep by Clarkson. Early season, their schedule was soft. Have said ever since they’re the team to beat. Colgate is good, but that’s all they’ll be again this year. Still fun to cheer for a team that wins more than it loses. Not sure why Osborne started in net again.

Salty Kalty … from what I hear … 2 game suspension for a racial slur in the Dartmouth game (handshake line). Morrow injured. Don’t know who the 3rd stud is your talking about. You still had Danny S. Whatever …

Are they all hurt, I didn't see anything about that during the week ?

If true about Kalty, that should be front page news on USCHO and makes me think much less of her recent podcast. Was she provoked? Need to win out the remaining 5 games, no exceptions. Even then, I think the team’s success can be justly scrutinized. Other than a close series vs. OSU the first w/e of the season (awful way to begin w/ such a tough opponent imo), we’ve proven we can’t beat the Top 5. This is more common than not for the Raiders. PlayForFree is a nice recruiting tactic, but we fall short when the chips are on the line.

.....Not sure why Osborne started in net again.

Just got thru watching the replay on ESPN+. Osborne played a fantastic game for gate. I could not fault her on any of the goals. First goal a breakaway where Goodwin made a fantastic deke to score. Second goal a shot from the point that deflects off a gate defenders stick in front and goes into the upper part of the net. Third goal top shelf from in front on a puck that ping ponged around. She made a number of quality saves in the first period that kept the game from really being a rout.

The referee's really let the women play. A number of hits along the boards on both sides that could/should have been called. Bard's trip behind the net with a little over 2 minutes to play and Osborne pulled was deserved but if it had been earlier in the game not sure whether they would have called it. That really cost gate any chance at tying the game.
