Colgate 2022-23

Kids with the extra Covid year can stay by declaring a double major & staying to finish it. Our football guys have mainly chosen to move on & use that extra year to start on their graduate degree... but our hoop guys have stayed (Richardson & OLD this year, reportedly Moffat & Records next year). Not sure how this affects either of our hockey teams.

Yale and Brown are not gimme's, especially Yale who has been playing much more competively lately. Harvard can help us by not getting upset by SLU, Harvard wins and we beat Yale and we're in for fourth even with a loss Saturday. Pretty good chance that we play SLU either way in playoffs, just depends who gets home ice. (Assuming we win the one or done opening round at home).

BTW thanks Gate83

Shabby - if we end up in 4th place, we get a bye for the first week (which is the one and done game series) and then host for the best 2 out of 3 in the quarterfinals - right?

Correct. First round is single elimination. Second round is best of 3. Top 4 get a bye and avoid the do-or-die affair.

Correct Babs. In my scenarios above I made some assumptions, first being we get fourth and SLU fifth. I assume #5 SLU beating #12 in the one game series. Gate being #4 wsould then play #5 SLU in a best of three in Hamilton. If we finish fifth and SLU #4, then we beat #12 in Hamilton, then play at SLU for a best of three. I don't think Clarkson enters this scenario but will check my prognostications. BRB

If SLU and Gate get swept this weekend, and Clarkson sweeps Harvard and Dartmouth, all three will have 34 points. The first tiebreaker is total points in head to head games between the two(shootouts don't count). We win over SLU, SLU wins over Clarkson, Clarkson wins over us. The next tiebreaker is wins in regulation and OT (shootout wins don't count).

I need help in the second tiebreaker, should be n/a as I don't think we AND SLU will get swept this weekend, plus Clarkson sweeping.
The easiest scenario we beat Yale friday and SLU loses to Harvard and were in fourth.

All I know is that I will follow Colgate to Yale and Brown this weekend, whatever the outcome. And I will wear my Colgate away jersey and applaud loudly and ‘Woo Hoo’ after each and every one of our goals.

If the weather forecast had been just a little bit better, I would have left a day early and logged in UConn’s new arena tonight (and a 4-3 OT win by the Huskies over the Seawolves, whom I financially supported just to help bring them back from obscurity).

Shabby, in the 3 way tie scenario you mentioned, if the point we got for the shootout win vs Clarkson doesn’t count then I think SLU would get 4th place. In the 6 games between the 3 teams, SLU got 7 points, we got 6 and Clarkson got 4.

But you’re right, we just need to take care of business this weekend. It’s been a while since we won a game in regulation (Qpac).

Magoo I made a mistake, in the first tiebreaker it's record head to head between tied teams and shootouts do count, sorry.

The second tiebreaker is wins in regulation and OT, shootouts do not apply.

So, Clarkson would have four points to two for Gate and beat us if we finish tied with them. (I think, lol)

So I reviewed the tie breaking procedures….

1. Comparison of points attained in games between tier teams (does not exclude shootout points).

2. wins (shootouts do not apply in this category)

based upon that, in points between tied teams colgate gets 7 (win at SLU; and two extra time wins at Hamilton)

SLU gets 7 (two regulation wins v clarkson and an extra time point v colgate)

clarkson gets 4: (win over gate at home, and an extra point at colgate)…. This eliminates clarkson

then you go back and run the scheme over again between SLU and colgate and colgate wins tie breaker.

If I am missing something please advise

Carter Gylander led Colgate out onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warm-up. Nathan Reid did the same for Yale.

12 minutes to play in third and Yale is being very aggressive.
Beautifully set-up PPG by Yale.
Seconds later, another beauty by Yale.

Colgate penalty. Killed.
Yale penalty. And a second Yale penalty.
35 seconds with two-man advantage. 2:49 to play.
First penalty killed.
Gylander pulled. Yale with ENG.
Gylander pulled again.

Yale 24, Colgate 22, SOG final.
Yale 4, Colgate 2, score final.

We controlled our destiny and have no one to blame but ourselves for that one.
