Colgate 2020-21

If NCAA basketball's March Madness can have all their teams play in a bubble (Indianapolis) why can't college hockey? Just got to find an arena far away from a big city, and that has other regulation rinks nearby.

Playing a surprising SLU team at five today. They beat and tied Q-Pac last weekend. Although the tie was won by Q-Pac in OT. Goes down as a tie I guess.

Andrew Farrier again in goal for Colgate today.
Emil Zetterquist in goal for Saint Lawrence.

Vachon in the box when SLU scored a PP goal.

Colgate 7, Saint Lawrence 6, SOG after one.
Saint Lawrence 1, Colgate 0, score after one.

ESPN+ let me down again. Video terrible....constant buffering. Plus I've waited over 30 minutes for the second period to begin...ad after ad after ad! It's 1-0 SLU but I quit...can't take it anymore.

Saint Lawrence likely leading SOG, after two.
Saint Lawrence 2, Colgate 0, score after two.

Totally uninspired play by both teams, but primarily Colgate. We are reverting back to the way we were two years ago... no offense and no defense, except what our goalie can provide.

Colgate 26, Saint Lawrence 22, final SOG.
Saint Lawrence 2, Colgate 1, final score.

Colgate didn’t deserve to win today and they didn’t. Plain and simple.

well I guess we're reverting to form, a form that is all too familiar to those of us who have suffered for too long. I guess we should at least say "thank you" to those who have really worked to make this season possible...no question...but here we go again...stupid penalties, pathetic PP, no puck pressure (are we the only team in the league that continues to employ a 1-2-2?), inconsistent (at best) passing...many of us thought that with the completion of the new rink there would be a change in the program's competitiveness...I don't think we envisioned that this change would be a further downward drift...we are long, long overdue for a change in MIH...Brett Riley is gone...My God, look at the job he's done in putting a competitive LIU team on the ice...did we make any effort to entice him to stay? Decisions like this are hard, very hard and may appear to be unfair to some, but JC at some point...

In case anyone’s curious, our record at Class of 65 arena is 27-31-13. I was actually surprised that it wasn’t worse than that. We were 11-6-2 at home in 2017-18 - under .500 in all other years (since 2016-17).

yes Magoo, I was wondering that myself...AND we've scored 7 goals in 4 games (1.75/game) at The '65 this year, pretty close to our long-term average, home and away...it's gotten to the point that I'm really torn whether to watch a game or not...what's the point...I don't blame the kids; from what I can see the effort is there...a small suggestion to the Athletic Department: spend less time recreating the configuration (and apparently the color) of the Colgate "C" (along with the self-serving comments about diversity, la, la, la) and more time making the difficult decisions regarding our "emphasis" sports...you made a hard and commendable decision regarding hockey this year...kudos...I think we'll all hoping for this kind of effort regarding MIH...at the end of the day are we REALLY committed to elevating our program? I wish I could see this, but frankly I do not...

Just watched Clarkson beat Quinnipiac in OT, 5-4. Clarkson appeared stronger, but spends too much time in the penalty box. To their credit, Quinnipiac came back from a 3-0 deficit to get to OT.
Colgate back at Saint Lawrence tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

Carter Gylander in goal for Colgate tonight.
Emil Zetterquist in goal for Saint Lawrence.

Colgate 11, Saint Lawrence 6, SOG after one (I believe).
Colgate 1, Saint Lawrence 0, score after one.

Elliott McDermott scores at 15:29, from Lunn and Vachon.
Colgate looked good all period, with some good saves from Gylander.

Kaden Pickering scored a shorty for Saint Lawrence, followed by a Nicholas Trela goal.
Then Matt Verboon scored an unassisted PPG at 6:15.
Alex Young scored from Verboon and Glasman at 13:56.

Saint Lawrence 27, Colgate 25, SOG after two (I think).
Colgate 3, Saint Lawrence 2, score after two.

Colgate is playing well tonight, much improved.
Carter Gylander has also done a great job of keeping them in it.

Ross Mitton with the empty-net goal.

Saint Lawrence 36, Colgate 32, final SOG (I guess).
Colgate 4, Saint Lawrence 2, final score.

While it wasn't total domination, I never felt like we were going to lose this one. We played well.

agree with IBT...a good and necessary win, given the nature of this season...and great to see Mitton get the empty-netter...notwithstanding my recent bitching this is a good and deep freshman class...we just have to score some goals on a regular basis...

It was an inspired Colgate team playing tonight. They were fast, on the puck, fore and back checking. Great to see two frosh getting their first collegiate goals - McDermott and Mitton. Alex Young is one of the best players wearing a Colgate sweater that I've seen in a long time. Congrats to the team on a well played game and win! I noticed Colton Young didn't play - some or most of the game.

Carter Gylander in goal again for Colgate.
Emil Zetterquist in goal again for Saint Lawrence.

Nick Austin back on the bench for Colgate.
Colgate's Colton Young back, as well, after his one-game suspension.

Colgate 11, Saint Lawrence 8, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, Saint Lawrence 0, score after one.

Our PP passing is pretty good. Our PP shots on goal? Not so much.

SLU's Philip Alftberg scored PPG at 10:13 of the second.

Colgate 19, Saint Lawrence 17, SOG after two.
Saint Lawrence 1, Colgate 0, score after two.

'Gate only down by one, but I am not feeling good about this one.
Lack of firepower, still.

Short-handed goal by Colgate's McKechney at 4:41 of the third. Game tied up.

Saint Lawrence put goal in net, but goal reviewed and waived off (goaltender interference).

Colgate 1, Saint Lawrence 1, after regulation.

Going to 3-on-3 OT for 5 minutes.

No scoring in OT. Going to Shoot-Out.

We'll take what we get and head home.

great to see us actually turn defense into offense during the PK, but, again, we have to score some goals...decent, well played game again, but 18 goals in 8 games (1 EAG included) is simply not sufficient to put together any win streak...I think we all know - and sadly from a very large sample size - that 2.25 goals/game results in, at best, .500 hockey...
