Colgate 2020-21

Been a Giants fan since the mid-1950s, the days of Charlie Connerly and Y.A. Tittle. Not leaving now, even though we're going through a rough patch :-(

Never forget the bloody pic of Tittle with the eyeblack, Sports Illustrated maybe ? A classic.

Nice win vs SLU. Griffin Lunn is underappreciated IMO.

Yeah, Shabby.....it was an SI cover photo. Remember it well.

yes, the brutal game against the Chicago Bears in 1963 at cold Soldier Field...he was a great QB and tough as nails...Title to Shofner was a lethal combination...a Browns fan never forgets...

Would someone explain the point value system pls, thx. Assume it's the same for M&W? The women play 4x4 OT hockey?
Thought the WIH team would manhandle SLU after they were routed by Clarkson. What happened? Women's team is successful, but still difficult to know for sure with such limited, repetitious, weaker competition. No. 1 PWR though and Clarkson No. 3 with a .500 record.

Bill - 3 points for a regulation win, 2 for an overtime win. Colgate has 4 WIR and 1 OTW (last night) - (4 x 3) + 2 = 14. The last three numbers in the six number W-L-T line aren't cumulative but rather are detail for the W & L columns. I believe the women play 3x3 in overtime as well. The teams were playing 4x3 when the game ended due to a slashing penalty on St.L. I am pretty sure anywhere they use 3x3 in OT, a penalty results in an extra player for the "victimized" team rather than a loss of a player for the perpetrating team.

Stat line shows Colgate dominating everywhere but goals (shots were 38 to 18 and 'Gate won 53 of 74 face-offs - just under 72%). St. L's game agains Clarkson was their first of the season - Clarkson's 8th so that probably had something to do with the score. Plus the St. L goalie last night only played the 3rd period versus Clarkson. She gave up 1 goal on 15 shots and her full stat line for four and a quarter periods of play is a respectable 0.925 SAV and 3.08 GAA. Its possible she's their new #1. As for Clarkson remaining ranked with a .500 record, I would note that their only losses come from games against some small school in the middle-of-nowhere Central New York that none of us has likely ever heard of...

USCHO has our game with SLU starting at 7pm, but the Colgate Athletic website lists it at 6pm. I'm tuning in at 6. Go 'gate!!!

Andrew Farrier in goal for 'Gate.
Emil Zetterquist in goal for Saint Lawrence.

Saint Lawrence's Nicholas Trela scored a power-play goal.
Saint Lawrence's Kaden Pickering scored a goal that Farrier no doubt wants back.
Saint Lawrence's David Jankowski scored a goal.

Saint Lawrence 8, Colgate 7, SOG after one.
Saint Lawrence 3, Colgate 0, score after one.

Elliott McDermott scores for Colgate 62 seconds into the second period.
Jeff Stewart read Zetterquist like a book and scored for Colgate.
Saint Lawrence's Kaden Pickering immediately gets it back, making it 4-2 SLU.

Saint Lawrence 4, Colgate 2, score after two.

A better second period than the first for Colgate, but they need to step it up another notch in the third to beat this much-improved Saint Lawrence team.

Colgate 24, Saint Lawrence 12, SOG midway through the third.

Alex Young scores for Colgate with less than one minute left, after Farrier was pulled in favor of an extra attacker.

Colgate 30, Saint Lawrence 17, final SOG.
Saint Lawrence 4, Colgate 3, final score.

the effort is there, it almost always there...but we were not prepared to play hockey in period #1 and we're going to have serious problems when the goaltending is poor...looking forward to a chippy, competitive game tomorrow night and hope we're ready to play at the opening bell...one could reasonably surmise that after being outshot 18-2 in period #3 and ot of the last game that SLU would come out with a purpose...

From Jim Hyla at eLynah today...
Cornell Big Red’s tentative schedule, 2021-22...

Here is what I have, so far.

Need Exhibitions, OOC, & Colgate.

I'm assuming the Regionals and Frozen Four will be at sites previously picked, but due to COVID cancellations, that might change.
Also I'm not sure which Regionals are Fri-Sat & which are Sat-Sun. They are just listed as place holders. As in the past, if you have info about errors or additions, post it and I’ll update this. Attached is the ECAC schedule, minus the traveling partners.

...we were not prepared to play hockey in period #1 and we're going to have serious problems when the goaltending is poor.

More excuses. Technically, we only scored 2 EV goals, so our offense isn't there; we took more penalties and gave up a PPG, so our special teams isn't there, either. We lost again at home. Like you said, the only thing that is almost always there is the effort. That is to be expected, but unfortunately, so is losing.

October seems early for the Colgate series, Iowa.

At the half-way point ECAC point totals are as follows: Q-Pac 17, Clarkson 15, SLU 14, Colgate 8. We have ONE regular session win this year (60 minutes), a 4-2 win over SLU...for a very long time regarding football and (amazingly) for several years for b-ball the expectation level is high; both programs are successful and expect to be successful. Sadly, in MIH - one of our "emphasis" sports - no such sentiment exists and hasn't existed for well over a decade...

Help me out here. Why is Colgate's womens team consistently - at least for the last several years since Greg Fargo came aboard - at the top of the ECAC and also highly ranked in the national polls? And yet our MIH team is always in the middle of the pack or lower? Is there some trick to recruiting that Greg Fargo knows that could be imparted to the Silver Puck Club folks and DV? The disparity in the success of the two programs is astonishing. Not trying to bash anyone here; it just seems like such a success difference; am curious.

These 4,5,6 and 7 PM start times are annoying. I know why they do it, but it's too early IMO. Last night I missed much of the game because of the different start times that were noted on the website vs USHCO. Anyone out there find this crazy?

The following anecdote is frankly not that important, but does give some hint about the "commitment" our Silver Puck Council demonstrates to elevating the competitiveness of MIH...every year for the past 40+ years I have donated to the SPC, in varying but (fair to say) generous amounts. For over the past decade I eagerly await - and receive - the exact same "thank you" letter robo-signed by Jerry Quill...even the paper used for the letter is copied...the "thank you" is therefore purely perfunctory and amateurish. One year I gave a very, very generous gift and received THE EXACT SAME THING. Personally I don't really care that much; I'm loyal to a fault and will continue to support the program. Nonetheless, you get an idea of how business is conducted...

Carter Gylander in goal for Colgate today.
Francis Boisvert in goal for Saint Lawrence.

Saint Lawrence's Justin Paul scores a PPG.
Matt Verboon scores a PPG goal for 'Gate.

Saint Lawrence 13, Colgate 10, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, Saint Lawrence 1, score after one.

Note to John McGraw... you do a fantastic job, but you may want to drop the line 'there is plenty of hockey to play' as it clearly takes Colgate a full period to score one goal. We need everybody to encourage a sense of urgency. he he he

Saint Lawrence's Nicholas Trela scores a quick goal off the face-off midway through the second period.

Saint Lawrence 24, Colgate 17, SOG after two.
Saint Lawrence 2, Colgate 1, score after two.

Ethan Manderville scores for Colgate early in the third.
Josh McKechney to Alex Young for a beautiful goal seconds after their power-play ended.
Saint Lawrence's Kaden Pickering scores the game-tying goal late in the game.
Arnaud Vachon scores a great goal with one-minute-and-a-half to go.

Colgate 4, Saint Lawrence 3, final score.

It was a nice win!! In his "Chalk talk" today, Coach said that four players are out for the season, though he didn't name names. I believe they are Liam Watson-Brawn, Mitch Benson, Henry Marshall (I haven't seen these guys play) and perhaps Tyler Jeanson or Jack Hoey (I have seen both of these guys play but not recently). Tough losses. Go 'gate!!
