Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning
Just an outsiders thought on the whole situation, Colgate had a few really good years and had a lot of really solid players who seemed to have a lot of chemistry and obviously the Spinks but not just them, the whole team just seemed to welcome adversity and that's a credit to the upperclassmen. In terms of recent players I know the Spinks, Baun, Johnston, Murphy, Goulakos, Lough, Borkowski there are probably so many others but with so many years of being a thorn in Clarksons side those players stood out to me, all of those players are from the CCHL, OJHL, or the QJAAAHL (Goulakos) regions, Colgate consistently were beating out a struggling Clarkson with a new coach and then a SLU that really didn't focus on those regions much under Carvel. Now I feel the roles are reversed for whatever reason, Clarkson now is getting some of the top end Canadian talent, obviously nothing is for sure but Cooper (Cornwall, CCHL), Dickinson + Jacome + Pearce (Georgetown, OJHL), Chris Klack who plays for Penticton in the BCHL but is from ON, Connor McCarthy a big Dman from QC who is having a great year with Chilliwack in the BCHL and is a former Denver commit and then our most recent commitment in Nick Campoli (North York, OJHL) who is a potential late round NHL draft pick, Cam Ginnetti (Langley, BCHL) who I hear nothing but good things and he might even get pushed up into next years recruiting class as a young 19 year old, these guys all project as really good players, that will not be the case because the adjustment from juniors to the college game is tough and some can't adjust but if enough obvious talent bulks up I'll take my chances with a few of the recruits panning out.
With Point you will have a great goalie for years to come, you had to beat out a lot of high profile schools for him and I'm sure and there will be others once they get to experience the new facilities, just looking into your future it seems like you have a few really good puck movers who can skate in Trevor Cosgrove and Nick Quillan, up front you seem to have a lot of good two-way guys coming in for next year but down the road Jeffrey Stewart and Mark Gallant seem like they could potentially be impact players. With the junior game developing at a rapid pace these freshmen come in ready to fight for minutes right away, for Clarkson you can just see it from looking at our stats, Devin Brosseau, Sheldon Rempal, Nico Sturm, and freshman G Jake Kielly carry a lot of the load for us, Brosseau and Rempal both had a lot of hype with them because of the amount of points they put up along with being such good friends and playing on the same line in juniors, now they're translating that at the next level and it's obviously refreshing for Clarkson fans as we have not had this in awhile, with Sturm and Kielly they both were apart of a good Austin team in the NAHL and then the next season won the Clark Cup on a dominant Tri-City Storm team in the USHL, they both came in with the right attitude and with the experience of winning and it shows in their play. Best of luck on the two games with Clarkson, I will for sure be making the trip to Hamilton in January and hopefully I didn't curse our freshmen with this post!
