Re: Colgate 2014-15

Great! No offense, I did not want to play you guys AT ALL!! It should be a great game and a great battle. See you all in Lake Placid folks.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

"PWR Watch" has officially commenced for us. USCHO will roll out its Pairwise Predictor tool tomorrow, once all the semifinal matchups are set. Until then, there are SEVEN Game 3's across the college hockey world this afternoon & evening. All 7 games will have implications on Colgate's PWR position. So without further ado, I present to you the following outcomes that we desire, in order from highest to lowest priority:

Union over Quinnipiac
Yale over Harvard
Providence over UNH
Western Michigan over Miami
Mercyhurst over Bentley
Notre Dame over Mass Lowell
Boston College over Vermont

Union knocking off Quinnipiac is crucial, because it will guarantee that we jump ahead of them in the PWR (right now we're tied for 15th with the Bobcats). Ironically, in Hockey East, we want the Catholic schools to triumph over the state schools. If Lowell and Vermont win, they won't catch us, but if they lose, their seasons will end, and they won't have any opportunities to pass us.

Yeesh, only ONE of these seven games went our way (Mercyhurst). Beat the Saints!

Ah, PWR roulette...casting spells on everyone else when we really need to take care of our own biz. What a win over BU or Yale or Harvard would have done!

Great series at Starr; a bit sentimental. 2014-2015 is in the books and only one season left with those arched rafters and hokey lobby decor :(

Congrats, 'Gate!
CU in Lake Placid!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I did not want to play Q again in LP, but toppling SLU x3 will be a monumental task. They. Are. Scary. Good.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Its officially 7:37 start against SLU. Win against SLU and I think our chances are a little bit better than 50-50 (but that is based on early tests), and with the 50% chance that we get in we have to go play North Dakota in Fargo. I say we use our team speed on the big sheet and we just win the whole thing. It appears that we want QU to win the first game. I have done a scenario where the only thing that has changed was that game (and having that team beat us in the final, we go from 17th to 14th)

We lose on Friday and it is game over.

Congrats to the team!!! Who's going to Lake Placid? I'll be there - going up Thursday. Can't wait!! GO 'GATE!!!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I was fooling around with the predictor a bit, if we beat SLU, then lose to Q-Pac we get in. If we win and lose to Harvard, we're out. Two wins puts us around tenth. I picked all favorites(as best as I could). I'll fool around with it all week putting in some upsets.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Is there a consy this year, or was that outlawed? Can't remember...(not that we're going to be in it; just wondering if I can get the championship game and the consy on TV Saturday night) :)

Saints will be tough, tough, tough.....gotta solve Hayden (sp?)

No consy this year. Only the NCHC has a consolation game, and it *could* help us - if St. Cloud loses it. Why? They would then be below .500, which would guarantee the end of their season.

Meanwhile, after playing around with the PWR predictor, I discovered one scenario where St. Cloud is 18-18-1, gets in as the 2nd to last at large, and Colgate (22-12-4), Vermont (23-15-4), and Bowling Green (23-11-5) are all OUT!

Even MORE alarming about this scenario is that Providence and Yale jump several spots into at-large positions despite not playing at all! DOUBLE

Yikes, only a 20% chance of making it to the dance --> www.uscho.com/rankings/pwp-results/

So we just need to sweep in LP. :)

You have to be careful with the USCHO one and the percentages, I do not think they figure in the fact that St. Cloud could be in top 16 but not be allowed to dance because of a losing record. So it is probably higher if this is figured in. I know the CHN predictor does factor that in

Shabby, it is a little more complicated than win and lose to QU. A harvard win on Friday almost dictates that we have to win to get in. I believe this is because harvard played yale 6 times and yale jumps up enough to get us. Secondly, we also want/need umass Lowell to beat Vermont. I have no clue why (and really don't care why) it just seems that way. If those two things happen we should be able to just win friday and be set. But take a look. I also believe that MINNESOTA winning the big ten helps us as well

Let's just do it the easy way - win 2 games in LP!!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I agree we want Quinny to beat Harvard so that it knocks out Yale and Harvard for sure. We also are routing for all the favorites especially MINNESOTA. The BIG only has them in right now so any other team could steal a spot. Michigan State, at 31 in the PWR, only needs two wins and they are in. I am not too happy about that knowing that a 4-500 Wisconsin team only needs 3 wins and they would be in the tournament. I did run a scenario where it is possible for us to still make it with a loss if say a Michigan made it in but we would need the others to bow out early and us to lose to Q in the final. We are also routing for UVM and SCSU all to lose early as stated earlier. SCSU really needed to lose last weekend and I'm sure our odds would have increased tremendously, thanks UNO.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Interesting to see two fan bases so equally scared of their opponent. :)

Here's to a good game Friday . . . sorry you have to lose. :p

Re: Colgate 2014-15

The ECAC did away with the consolation game starting last year.

Was wondering if a consy game could help us to the big dance if there were one? I can't fathom all the permutations and combinations - I'll leave that to you Rainman and you other experts - but it seems to me the ECAC is possibly closing the door on having an additional team qualify for Boston, right?

I have been messing around with the pairwise predictor and I can't seem to find a way where we can get more than 3 teams into the NCAA tournament! :(

A win vs SLU and a loss to Q-Pac Sat night obviously means Q-Pac beat Harvard Friday night. Hmmmm

A consolation game could potentially be the difference for any of the four teams that lose on Friday. It could be the difference between 1 and 3/4 teams in! AND, I am guessing if your team loses on Friday some will go home hurting Satuday attendance! Yet another idiotic move by the ECAC. Our last 2 trips we had to win the consolation game to get in. 2007 we beat Dartmouth and got in. 2010 we tied Princeton and didn't get in but would have with a win. Now supposing Colgate loses on Friday and a win against Harvard or Q could get you in... why wouldn't you play a consolation game??? We may have the last 2 NCAA champs but we are the worst managed league!
