Re: Colgate 2014-15

...and for the first time this season, we have no injured scratches tonight. I will confess, I knew about this for a little over a week now, but didn't want to mislead anybody.

Let's do this!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Where in the world is Andrew Black? Good game tonight 'gate!!!! Dartmouth played a good game, we were just a little better. Finn made some nice saves. ECAC refs missed a lot of stuff. We took too many penaltys and need to shoot more on our PP!! Spiro was off!!! We will need to step it up tomorrow night!!!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

A really nice win tonight!! I am proud of the team!! This is the first game we have had all of our "critical" players back and healthy together since October!! A somewhat sluggish start to the game. Charlie made big saves time and time again throughout the game. The boys got the job done in a physical game. A fun game to watch. Looking forward to tomorrow night. Congrats, guys! Go 'Gate!!!!!!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Lidgett's goal was a beauty! Congrats, 'Gate!

The first period saw great defense by both teams; SOG pretty similar. We kept their top 2 lines pointless and that is a necessary strategy for a win! Finn gets the golden glove award! Have been thinking the same thing about Black since his goal in Lake Placid last season. Spiro looked a step behind but nothing can take away from watching him be on the ice instead of behind the bench. The absence of students and the pep band was very noticeable. I noticed we're trying something cute-sy by skating into the zone and dropping the puck softly behind for the trailer...only it resulted a turnover, esp. on the pp. Just shoot the puck!

I am not convinced the bye week helped us...yet. Thought we came out strong but Dartmouth was up to the task. Time to punch the ticket tomorrow! Boy, Union really laid an egg.

Go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Tylor Spink's goal seconds after the Dartmouth score may have put us over the hump psychologically and stopped the bleeding. Very fortunate to pick up that score at that juncture. Having Spiro on the ice may have done more for the team emotionally than anything he did skating-wise, although having him at 50% is better than most other D-men at 100%...(except for our other D-men) LOL

Should be another nail-biter tonight. Big Green will not roll over dead.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

If things go perfect with us we could be 13th, could be as low as 17th with a win(in the PWR). Hoping for a yale/harvard split.

It was nice to see Spiro back; and you're right he wasn't anywhere near 100%. It's a good thing we didn't have a 3 overtime game like Quinny & Union - I don't think Spiro could have made it through that. Something for coach to thins about for tonight - there are no ties in the playoffs. Maybe he'll take a chance and rest Spiro tonight.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

This was not an easy game, but we got the job done.

After a solid 1st period, we were just awful in the 2nd. Yes, absolutely awful. After getting an early power play, Kyle Baun took a foolish penalty, making it 4x4. Then not long after that, Tyler Sikura scores to cut the deficit in half. Had Baun not taken that penalty, it would have still been 2-0 'Gate for probably a good part of the 2nd period. Then before the halfway mark of the 2nd, the Big Green tie it up. My stress levels start increasing dramatically, thinking we were going to find a way to lose. The 3rd period was a bit more even, but we still had a flare for the dramatics. With just under 4 min. to go, we take a too many men penalty, we kill it off, then take ANOTHER penalty. Dartmouth gets a 6x4 after pulling the goalie. But then they take a penalty, and while it halted their momentum at the time, they almost scored an EAG to tie it, which would get reviewed - when the clock hits zero! Colgate is celebrating what looks like a victory, only to find out the game may not in fact be over yet. But the referee comes out of the review box, signals no goal, and we can finally exhale.

This game was very similar to Game 2 of our quarterfinal series against St. Lawrence last year. We were sloppy at times, but we ultimately took the lead for good in the 3rd period and "hung on" for the win. Also, two of our three goals came from Spiro Goulakos and Mike Borkowski (who scored the eventual game-winner). When it looked like both of these players would be done for the year back in January, they come back and they are the reason we are going back to Lake Placid! However, we still have unfinished business back at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. The team should treat next weekend as a business trip. Hoisting the Whitelaw Cup may be our only route back into the NCAA's.

I will be making the trip back to Lake Placid next weekend. A few weekends ago, NBC was doing live reports during intermissions of NHL games in honor of the 35th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice. It is such a beautiful place, and I'm very excited to be going back there - hopefully seeing another 2 wins for the Maroon & White!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Let the pairwise watch begin. Chn will probably have their you be the committee up by Monday in which he can see what we will need to do to get in. I'd be surprised if one win didn't get us there but winning the whitlaw would be a nice bonus. If you guys play around with it post what you find. Well we took care of business so breathe easy for a few days and prepare to play on the big ice. I think the big ice will help a bit but we will see

It should be up soon after the completion of game 3's tomorrow night.

red, PWR watch began a looooooong time ago. I was sure SCSU would be out this weekend but they swept UNO on the road and are now 11th in the PWR. If they lose their next game they are automatically out with an under .500 record but if they they win and then lose I bet they are in for sure. We are also looking for Union to pull a huge upset tomorrow. I can't remember who posted earlier about being stunned to not see Quinny make it at 10th just 2-3 weeks ago but it looks like they will not make the tourney if they lose tomorrow as they are tied at 15th with colgate. Amazing to think a team who went 16-3-3 in the reg season and won the reg season ECAC champ couldn't make the tourney. Really shows just how important the OOC record truly is (only a 5-6-1 record for Q, and overall not very good for the ECAC in general).

Either way we are playing yale, harvard or Quinny next and as stated earlier if we get one win we are most likely in. As a finally healthy team this is a real threat even if they make it as 4 seed.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Just back from a party celebrating the life of a classmate who left us way too soon who was a huge Gate hockey fan. He's smiling down tonight for sure!
