Re: Colgate 2014-15

On to #1 ticked off BU with a short bench, yikes. I guess GoTerriers.com is the only stream. I'll be looking for another today.

I'm wondering how coach Vaughan is keeping it together, missing three of your top six forwards is devastating, how do we even compete ? I have also heard there's a fourth that didn't play against Yale, not sure who. Four o'clock start tomorrow in case you forgot. How about an upset, we're due !!

Just watch out for #9 - Jack Eichel, Fr., from USA U-18 team. Apparently he's the second coming of Gordie Howe.

There is a camera icon on the media section of the 'Gate athletic website schedule, so there must be streaming of the game. Not sure if this connects directly to GoTerriers.com. There is also a link at the BU Ice Hockey website for the game. If one doesn't work, try the other(?) (Maybe GR can give the straight poop on this)

Gonna be a real workout for us with all the injuries, but we can do it!! Go Raiders!

Looking at the boxscore from collegehockeystats.net for the Yale game, we didn't have any notable scratches aside from Spink, Borkowski, and Murphy. So we are only missing 3 of our top six forwards, but still, that is significant. I'm guessing Tylor won't be back until after Christmas, at the earliest. If he's still not in the lineup by the time we play Western Michigan on Dec. 29th, he's probably missing the whole year. The school has not released a statement regarding him, so that leads me to believe he'll be back sometime this season.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Don't know if I can watch, GR!
And Nate Owen in the ECAC hockey blog picks Colgate to win knowing we're...On the road? With a short bench? At #1 BU? Far be it for me to argue with Nate, but God willing. We don't have any true, signature wins. Hope we play the Terriers tough.
Go 'Gate, you can do it!

Before the Yale game Don said we were missing four forwards, I didn't say a fourth of our top six.

Okay, I must have misinterpreted your previous post. I'll be at the game tomorrow afternoon. It'll be my first time seeing the 2014-15 Raiders in person. Hoping for a W!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

ill be interested to see if the big ice is still an advantage for us without Spink, Borkowski, and Murphy. Ever since going to Minnesota last year I have thought that it is a great advantage for us to be on the big sheet but it will be tested today...any thoughts?

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Standard rinks are 200 x 85, Agganis is 200 x 90. I don't think that's a big rink. Some are 220 x 100. I WILL be streaming from home, can't wait.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

You made me curious, lookin around I have found 200x100, nothing bigger. Found a 200x97.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

NHL-sized rinks (including Starr Rink) are 200 x 85. Olympic-sized rinks (including the one in Lake Placid) are 200 x 100. According to Wikipedia, Dartmouth's rink is also 200 x 90, while Harvard's is 204 x 87. And it also lists Union's rink as 201 x 86. I don't know why these schools don't have the standard rink size, but we won in all three of those venues last season.

Headed up to Boston soon. Can't wait!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Almost game time. Rainman - be sure to give us an in depth report after the game, or tomorrow. Doubt I'll have a chance to see/hear it :(

Re: Colgate 2014-15

one word....PENALTIES........

We needed that win, it will be a long week + off, and we will drop in the Pairwise (starting to become relevant but not quite) and out of the top ten in the polls.

I am starting to get worried about making the tournament this year.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I want to say that we ran into the BU buzzsaw in the 3rd period, but I must agree with red133883 ... penalties doomed us. We skated with the Terriers for most of the game, but in the 3rd period, taking back-to-back penalties did us in. We only got 1 clear in the first minor penalty, then BU held the zone for over a minute. We were clearly under siege, and it ultimately lead to BU taking the lead and never looking back. This game could have easily been a quality win that would have given us a confidence boost for the remainder of the season.

It should also be noted that this is the first time in a long time that:
-We scored 1st but ended up losing
-We were leading after 2 periods and ended up losing. In fact our 3rd period goal differential was MINUS 3 today, not including BU's 5th goal, which was an empty netter with 0.6 seconds on the clock. BU took a two-goal lead with under 2 min. to go with Finn still between the pipes. Usually we have a positive 3rd period goal differential. Unfortunately games like this happen and I just wish it wasn't this game.

Meanwhile, Agganis Arena is truly a beautiful rink. The building is located right on Commonwealth Avenue, right in the thick of Boston. It is one of the best rinks in Hockey East, along with the Tsongas Center (UMass-Lowell) and the Mullins Center (UMass-Amherst). It has a full concourse with concession stands that you would typically find in an AHL rink. And they even sell beer there! I hope our rink can be just as tremendous. Hopefully BU will return the trip out to Hamilton in the 2016-17 season when the new arena is ready to go.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Glad you enjoyed Agganis! Sounded like there were quite a few Colgate fans there. I think most of them were friends and relatives of that kid from Marblehead. He got the loudest cheers during the intros for both teams.

I didn't know you guys were getting a new arena. I hope we do make the trip as Colgate is one of the ECAC schools I still need to add to my list!!
