Colgate 2014-15

Re: Colgate 2014-15

No one has mentioned Borkowski. I think he is as valuable to the team as Spink -- just MO. He is one of the engines that makes us go, and you can see the results without him. Yes, we will be a lot better with Spink back, but I still fear a falloff in our overall game. We were counting on Mike when the season started. He is missed big-time.

I thought we kind of fought to a stalemate last night. Yale seemed to have the better game and stymied us in the neutral zone. We tried to do the same, but with mixed results. Yale was in our end more than the opposite. We just could not generate any O. While Hamilton played great in goal, it's just one game. Would like to see him tested again, or have him come in when we have a laugher :)

I couldn't agree more about the importance of Borkowski. He is arguably the most important guy on the roster. Very good 2 way hockey player, leader on the ice and would likely have been our top point guy at seasons end.
I think he still leads the team in +/- at +9 without playing the last few games.
Panowyk has proven to be a decent replacement for Tylor Spink, but there isn't anybody to replace Borkowski. If Tylor can get back at least that line will be set and Panowyk can take Borkowski's spot.
Given our penalty kill and goaltending we'll have a fighting chance that way.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Ken Schott tweeted it (does the ECAC coverage for the Albany schools). Confirmed on the ECAC website under the news section.

We are 9th going into #1's barn. This is the opportunity we need to feel good about the season going into the break (remember MN last year). It will be tough without 3 of our top six forwards. But that is what happens when emotions get the best of you. I still hope Tylor will be back but I don't see why I should be optimistic about that.
Play hard and well and hope Finn can steal one

With the suspension it is even a bigger opportunity. We have the chance to beat the number one team without our top line up. If we pull it off (not that ridiculous) just think where we will be when we get them back.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I stand corrected, Red133883...still in the top 10 and happy (though surprised) to see it. One step forward and 2 backward is how this season feels so far! If only we were healthy going to BU... Still feel like we have something to prove and show we belong.

Not only do we need others to step up, but there has been a lack of discipline (league refs notwithstanding). Our pk may be solid, but it puts pressure on the entire team and is not as easy to score when you're playing constant defense! Is BU on break?! I'll take any advantage I can think of. Hope we have a small fan base there in Beantown.

It's Thanksgiving weekend, of course BU is on break. Is Colgate actually open? I'd find that fascinating. And so you know, I heard the in-game sponsor will be the BU School of Dental Medicine. :)

I wouldn't get too excited about Hockey East officiating. I don't know where they dug up some of these new guys but they have been terrible. How is it Interference when you check the guy with the puck?

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Email from the AD. Note the web address for the NAF is listed... and hopefully a webcam once they start construction!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of Colgate University’s "New Athletic Facility" (NAF) and give you an update on the exciting progress being made.

The building committee has met over 40 times and we have completed our "construction documents." The following is a basic timeline of each phase of development:

• February through March 2014 - Schematic Design

• March through August 2014 - Design Development

• August through December 2014 – Construction Documents

We are scheduled to break ground as soon as the ground thaws in 2015, and plan to officially open the facility in October 2016. Plans are already underway for the opening contests.

Men's ice hockey coach, Don Vaughan — who earned his 350th Division I win this fall (one of only eight coaches in the country to have that many victories) — has scheduled Army, and women's ice hockey coach, Greg Fargo — a coaching staff member of Team Canada — has scheduled Mercyhurst for the NAF opening weekend.

I know the men's and women's ice hockey, lacrosse, and soccer coaches and their teams are very excited for their new offices, team rooms, and locker rooms. Our entire division is looking forward, too, to the added office and locker room space that this will provide in Reid Athletic Center.

I have attached a rendition of the exterior design (from three angles), and a top view of the coaches’ suites. In addition, the university has devoted a webpage toward the NAF that can be found at http://www.colgate.edu/offices-and-services/facilities-(b-g)/new-athletics-facility. It is our hope to have a webcam present during the construction phase of this project.

Thank you again and please know how appreciative we are of your generosity and support.

Why would we schedule Army as our first game in the new arena? Never understood that, Penn State did the same thing last year I believe. At least it's not as bad as RIT having played their biggest game of the year this year against BC at the Blue Cross arena. "Hey glad we just spent millions and millions on this state of the art facility on campus but we're going to show everybody our brand new awesome facility by having the game downtown so that we can make more revenue in ticket sales. - RIT"

I guess its suppose to be a sure win for the opening game? Personally I'd rather see a top team come in.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

There must be a hidden meaning to our opening against Army. I would think SLU, Clarkson, or Cornell would be logical since I believe we've played them the most over the years....(but I could be mistaken).

Re: Colgate 2014-15

In other news ... Harvard just beat BU, on the road, in OT. Now can we also pull out a win against the Terriers? Our own conference will be difficult enough.

Yes you can and you will. BU is a great third period team. Great talent. You have to play tenacious defense for 60 minutes and you are one of the top (8th) in team defense. Finn needs to step up. BU had 42 shots against Harvard. The ECAC is 12-5-2 against Hockey East !!!! 13-5-2 after Saturday. :)

Love the support Dutchman but that's a great current record against HE at 12-5-2 but 4 of those wins are gate and Quinny's wins over awful Northeastern. Lots of quality match ups this weekend between ECAC and HE. Will be interesting to see after this weekend. I count a total of 9 match ups between the two Friday to Sunday.
