Colgate 2014-15

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Providence has had a similar decline in the polls as Colgate. The Friars have solid wins over BU, BC, Vermont, UNH, and a tie vs. NoDak. Their GF/GA is identical at 1.93 but they have 4 S/O. Colgate has a fighting chance and a win would help in more ways than one!

Not to get too picky but a win over UNH right now probably doesn't qualify as a solid win but I get your point, Providence is goooooood. I watched about a period of their game last night against NE on the broadcast and they made some real nice passes to set up goals and moved the puck well. AND they have Gilles in goal who is one of the best goalies in the NCAA right now with a .941 save percentage. Another thing to look at is Providence's schedule down the road. They have 20 games left this season and in my opinion only 5 of them are tough opponents (lower than 30 in the pairwise) including us which means their record at 8-5-1 will be much better come March. This adds up to them probably getting a 2 seed or better in the tournament so I think it is a win we need. That being said if we get in penalty trouble again like we always seem to do they will make us pay and it will be another loss. Hopefully some of our forwards can sneak a few past Gilles and we come out with the win.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Do we know yet if the PC game will be televised or streamed? Could it be carried on the same network (goterriers.com/CBSI) as last weeks' BU game? The video feed from that game stunk/stank, but it was better than nothing. GR: any intel on this? :)

Well...I'll have free audio as always at http://www.wkxzfm.com beginning at either 6:45 or 6:50 depending on the time of the actual puck drop. That is of course, if you don't mind listening to me. However, I'm assuming y'all would rather watch live video. The game will be televised regionally on Cox Sports in the Providence area via the Ocean State Network. After some investigation, Cox Sports broadcasts live streaming video for $5/gm at http://www.coxhub.com/coxhublive. Archives are also available of past games. You just have to put in your name, email and zip code to be able to access the video. PC radio voice Mike Logan will call the game and former PC star Sonny Watrous will be on color. Providence also has radio however it is part of their premium content service (pay to listen) and only available through their College Sports Live audio/video content area on Friars.com. Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend - it's the first weekend off for the team, and yours truly, since September.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

GR enjoy your weekend off, somehow I think you still will watch some hockey, lol. And thank you for all the info you give us, it is much appreciated.

The game is being televised - but on the Ocean State Network, which is only available to Cox cable subscribers in Rhode Island. For those who need their college hockey fix this weekend, there are a handful of games being televised:

Tonight (all times Eastern):
-BU at Merrimack, 7 PM on FCS Atlantic (also avaliable on WBIN in Eastern Mass. and Southern NH)
-Minnesota at Michigan State, 7 PM on FCS Central
-Ohio St. at Michigan, 7 PM on Big Ten Network
-Nebraska-Omaha at Miami, 7:30 PM on FCS Pacific
-BC at UNH, 8 PM on NBCSN
-Penn St. at Wisconsin, 9 PM on ESPNews

Saturday night (all times Eastern):
-Minnesota at Michigan State, 5 PM on FCS Atlantic
-Colorado College at Minn. Duluth, 8 PM on FCS Atlantic
-Maine at UMass Lowell, 8 PM on NBCSN

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Gillies is a six foot five goaltender with three shutouts in his last four games, including 43 saves in a 1-0 blanking of Boston College. They don't score much, two or three goals might be enough.

Rainman, notice none of those televised games are in the east.

BU at Merrimack, BC at UNH, Maine at UMass Lowell aren't eastern games? Granted, the only (possible) future opponent on that list is Penn State, and you probably need a sports package to get the FCS channels.

Aww, shucks GR. Of course I'd rather listen to you, and usually do (..unless I'm at Starr). If there is video I turn off the sound and listen to you anyway. It's the best way to go. I highly recommend it. Thanks for all the info. Enjoy your weekend.

Thanks Rainman for the rundown on this weekend's games. Might be able to pick up the eastern games on ESPN & NBCSN :)

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Whats the deal with Julian Fialkow? he has not played a game since hes been at Gate.
Half way through sophomore season. Kid has potential. Just wondering why DV doesnt give him a shot.

I've been thinking the same thing, at least this season. When three freshmen forwards are getting ice time before him, even in the past two games with three junior forwards out of the lineup, it wouldn't surprise me if he decides to transfer.

Hmmm....must have been a pre coffee response.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Huge game for PWR implicatiuons Tuesday. Coach is approaching a decision on Spink, as if I'm right we have played fifteen games so he can play in the next two(or none) which would equal seventeen (or 50%) of our thirty four game regular season. That would be the Western Michigan game then he couldn't play any more games to still be eligible for a medical redshirt. I think he plays against Clarkson first week of January or he's done. He could come back anytime though, negating the redshirt. Who knows, it's the best I can figure, I may be way off.

Ever try reading the protocol on NCAA concussions, very confusing but interesting reading.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

"While Vaughan believes Tylor Spink will be back, he still doesn't know when that return date will come. Moreover, the second half schedule only gets tougher for the Raiders. After a holiday tournament in Pittsburgh, the Raiders ended their season with 16 straight ECAC games — nine of which come on the road." - quote from a CHN article posted today.

There is hope for the return of Tylor, and although Borkowski is a huge loss there is no hope for his return so focusing in on that is useless: From the rest of the article it seems like the team is ****ed with its performance on Saturday and frustrated. This will manifest in one of two ways, it will get us back on track or it could just end our season. I think we will know in one weeks time.

Go 'Gate
Would graduating with his brother have any impact on his thought process as to whether to consider a red shirt year if it's available?

Re: Colgate 2014-15

PC beat UNH 1-0 with the backup goalie as Gillies broke team rules and was suspended for that game.

Not sure, but there's a third Spink brother, Tanner, plays for Cornwall like his brothers did. I wonder if he's considering Colgate.

Noreaster tomorrow and Wednesday, they're saying just rain for the coast and lot's of snow around central NY State. Hope the game is played Tuesday night.

I thought I had read that you could only play in 30% of a teams games to be eligible for a redshirt. I think it was in the RPI thread, but can't remember for sure.

No, it was here, scroll back. You can play in less than 30% and none after the halfway point. He hasen't played in any so he can play in the next two if he wanted to. Then we're over the half way point in the season.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

my guess is that coach vaughn will put him in anytime he is ready. I don't think they are looking to throw away the season just because we didn't start out the season 13-0.

There is still a ton of season left. They just need to take the games one at a time. A win tomorrow will send everyone happy into the break. A loss will be devestating (mentally) but not in the long run. We just need to make the tournament with spink back and after that who knows what will happen

Seeing that the game is being played in Providence RI, I expect the game to go on as schedule, as that area is supposed to get rain, not snow. I still don't get why this game is on a Tuesday night, given (A) the considerable distance between the two schools and (B) we're approaching final exams. Last year we played UMass right before exams, and I still believe that we lost both of those games because the players were distracted by the end-of-semester crunch. Both schools had an open date on November 28, why didn't we play Providence then?

Sorry, I read your first comment wrong - thought you were saying he hadn't played in 50% of the games yet, now I see you meant hadn't played in the second half yet.
