Colgate 2014-15

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I wouldn't be surprised if Q used last year as a bit of motivation. So close the title game, to lose like they did. I might even feel bad if we weren't the other team ;)

That all being said, we just got blitzed on Friday. It happens, they turned around with a good showing Saturday, got a road split. I would have taken 2 points on the QU/PU road trip.

As for the North Country visitors, I'm not going to be concerned just yet. Borkowski being out hurts, but the strength of this team was its depth. Lots of guys with talent and experience. Keep calm, play our game, and 4 points are ours for the taking.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

As far as Spink is concerned I am optimistic because he it's still listed on the line charts in the non dressed players area. As far as borkowski, I am worried because that injury looked bad on the ice.

We need a sweep this weekend to get our mojo back, between the mercyhurst and Quinnipiac losses it will be important to get the confidence back.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Me too - wonder where red found the list of non dressed players? I can never find anyplace that gives injuries, etc.
Heck I can't even find the game rosters 15 minutes before a game!

Re: Colgate 2014-15

If you follow @Colgate_Hockey on Twitter, that account usually posts the line charts about 45 minutes before the game. It also indicates the scratches in the bottom right part of the chart, though it doesn't specify if a player is a healthy scratch or injured scratch.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Couple things here since I feel the time is right to chime in. As mentioned above, the scratches are normally listed on the line sheet. There are usually six scratches per game as there are 24 skaters, 18 dress. Scratches can be found either by seeing the tweeted picture of the line sheet on my Twitter account (@JohnMcGrawPBP) or on the @Colgate_Hockey account. In addition, if you don't see those, I always run down the list of scratched players before the game on the pre-game show. Some programs list why a player is scratched on the line sheet, others do not. For the most part, schools do not list why a player is scratched. In regards to injuries, keep in mind that there are federal HIPPA guidelines that protect a person's privacy in regards to medical issues being disclosed. Some schools openly discuss injuries, others do not - it really depends on the school. And please note, it's not the fans right to know what a certain injury is. If a guy is hurt, he is hurt and hopefully he returns.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

Ughhh, if there was ONE thing that I worried about going into this season, it was losing a key player to an injury. Since he will miss the bulk of this season, I wonder if Mike can apply for a medical redshirt, allowing him to play in 2016-17?

Now we wait and see if Tylor Spink plays this year. The rumors are that he suffered a concussion. If so, he may not be back until after Christmas. Kevin McNamara suffered a concussion in January of the 2011-12 season, and he ended up missing the rest of the year. So I'm thinking his injury may be serious, even though it's undisclosed.

He will be elgible to get a medical redshirt because he only played in 26% of the team's games. If it happened next weekend the year would've lost

Two key games this weekend at home. What do posters think?

A must win vs Clarkson Saturday night. SLU is a solid team though so I wouldn't be too upset with a tie. A loss will hurt but is possible. I'm curious to see what Cornelll does this weekend as well with their poor start. Hoping for the home sweep by 'gate. As stated I'd really like to win three out of the next four.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I'm guessing two very close games this weekend. Wondering who will center the second line. We need two wins.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I would like a sweep, but I'll be okay with 3 pts. Anything less than that and I'll be disappointed. We start a 4-game homestand tonight, then go almost 2 months without a home game (and 1.5 months without a league game). Now's the time to grab some points in the standings.

SLU has been a surprise so far, since they lost many key players from last season. They seem to have fixed their defense and penalty kill problems from a year ago, and have a balanced scoring attack. Clarkson is only allowing 2.3 goals per game, but scoring 1.9. Both games may come down to goaltending. I also predict two close results.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I expect a 1-0 game tonight, could go either way both goalies have been playing well this season. For Clarkson I expect a few more goals from gate. Hoping beyond hope that Tylor is ready to come back, but not that optimistic if what has been discussed on here is true.

We need to sweep at home and get 4 points if we are to be taken seriously. Right now we're playing a bit inconsistently, clinging to a top-10 national ranking and are outside the PWR bubble. This cannot turn into a slugfest and we need to stay disciplined. Their goalie seems similar to Finn and their fans travel well, so the Saints may feel like they're playing at home! I don't care much for moral victories unless their goalie steals the show. The Saints are a great team and it should be a very good game.

The Clarkson fans - and band - also travel well. Thanks for the feedback everyone. My thoughts exactly.

Bill, wait until the Christmas break before worrying about the pairwise. Worrying now serves no purpose except to increase your anxiety level.

Re: Colgate 2014-15

We've been inconsistent so far this year, after last weekend I quite frankly am a bit nervous. I feel good about the team but with Spink and Borokowski gone we definitely have two big holes to fill. Scoring first is huge tonight, we are deep at forward, who's going to step it up ?

Re: Colgate 2014-15

I've been wondering where Black has been this year and wanting to see production. Glad to see him ger on the board tonight! Hopefully he gets on a roll now. We'll be heading into Hamilton tomorrow for the game against Clarkson. I'm hoping it's well attemded. The crowd tonight looks sparse. Now 2 - 0!!!! Go 'Gate!
