Re: Colgate 2012-13

Good news, Shabby. What is the caiber of play in the CJHL? Is Emilio taking the place of someone who dropped out?.....I forget.

Yale game should be on ESPN or ESPNU in an hour or so...

The higher end CCHL kids tend to do really well in ECAC Hockey. The majority of Colgate's freshman class this year played in the CCHL last year. Some other former CJHL players that have had success in the ECAC off the top of my head - Andrew Calof (Princeton), Matt Peca (Quinnipiac) and Jacob Laliberte (RPI). There are certainly others but you get the idea.

Pembroke has been one of the strongest teams in the CJHL/CCHL over the last 7-8 years. The Lumber Kings won five CJHL championships in a row between 2007 and 2011 and also won the RBC Cup (Jr. A equivalent of the Memorial Cup) in 2011. The team has struggled a little over the last two years but again, it's a very good franchise.

This is a very good signing late in the signing period. The last time Colgate added a mid-to-late signing out of Quebec, it was Spiro Goulakos and we know how well that worked out.

It is a good league. Corey Murphy and Ben Bryce are alums from CJHL. This league has fed many players to Clarkson and St Lawrence as well as Colgate and other ECAC teams for many years.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I believe Emilio takes the place of a young man named Julian Fialkow, who was an early signee, then disappeared off the face of the earth...not good work by recruiting unless there's something here I am unaware of...nonetheless, at this point we go into next season with one FEWER skater than last year's team...Black appears to be a very solid signing, but, and the jury is certainly out, the overall quality of the class appears mediocre

Another hockey season in the books. Enjoy the summer, posters. October will be here before you know it :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Two million was needed two or three months ago for the new rink. It has to be very close now. They know it's coming, why not start building soon so it would be ready for 2014-15 season, why wait ? It's been too long. I will feel a little sad about Starr closing since I have watched or played there for over fifty years !

Have they gone through environmental impacts and the like? The state is a bit rear-orifice affected when it comes to that sort of thing.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

You would think the new compressors etc would be way more environment friendly than the almost twenty five year old equipment they have currently. Keep the green guys happy !

Not that sort of environmental impact. You know how long it took the Adirondack Park to get cell phone towers, simply because the APA thought they'd be an eyesore?

Re: Colgate 2012-13

As for Shablak's previous question, you can tack on a SCSU series at home in October (25/26). I show you travelling to Bowling Green for a pair (I'd guess sometime in October but February is also a possibility; December's out) and RIT for a one-night stand (too many openings to predict), but don't yet know when. I don't know when Cornell's or your exams are, but perhaps the home/home with Cornell will be February 7/8? It could also be December 6/7 or 13/14 (very unlikely), so I'm not putting anything into the composite schedule yet. That still leaves 5 NC games to go. Although there are a couple of WCHA openings, I'd suspect some Hockey East or Atlantic teams.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Bad news as Heisenberg shows us losing Nitsche, a big defenseman for next year. Leaves us even shorter on D. Hope it's wrong but I doubt it.

I don't see where else he'd go. He's too old for major junior (assuming you're talking Thomas), and highly doubt he'd go CIS. Is he undrafted?

Re: Colgate 2012-13

A quick web search doesn't reveal anything on where Nitsche may end up if he indeed is not coming. A perusal of the Heisenberg site doesn't show him as having committed elsewhere. He also may have Junior A eligibility left with Penticton since he will still be 20 when the 13-14 BCHL season opens. That said, we won't officially know the signed players for next season until the school makes an announcement - which will hopefully be pretty soon.

Anyways, since folks are wondering, here's what was on the program at the awards banquet in terms of the tentative slate for next year...

10/5 - 10/6 - vs. Ferris State
10/10 - at R.I.T. (assume this will be at Ritter since it's a Thursday)
10/18 - 10/19 - at Bowling Green
10/25 - 10/26 - vs. St. Cloud State
11/1 - vs. Princeton (Silver Puck Weekend)
11/2 - vs. Quinnipiac (Silver Puck Weekend)
11/8 - at R.P.I.
11/9 - at Union
11/15 - at Clarkson
11/16 - at St. Lawrence
11/22 - vs. Brown
11/23 - vs. Yale
12/14 - 12/15 - vs. Massachusetts
1/3 - 1/4 - at Minnesota (Mariucci Classic)
1/11 - vs. Vermont
1/17 - at Dartmouth
1/18 - at Harvard
1/24 - vs. Clarkson
1/25 - vs. St. Lawrence
1/31 - at Brown
2/1 - at Yale
2/7 - at Cornell
2/8 - vs. Cornell
2/14 - vs. R.P.I.
2/15 - vs. Union

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I pray we don't lose the kid...our margin for error is now gone if his non-arrival is true...I've got to say it: you play with fire, you get burned and a roster of (maximum) 23 puts you in a position where one or two defections (not to mention injuries) can be the difference between being competitive and, essentially, non-competitive...some of us have been beating this issue for a long time and, believe me, there is no joy in doing it...not a good entrance to summertime...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

BTW, we all know Union lost its stud goaltender right after the NCAAs...two weeks later they signed a kid out of (guess where) the USHL...I guess that route for us is a non-starter since apparently we've opted not to recruit in the best junior league in the US...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Maybe we've tried and have had no success. Anyways, a nice looking schedule with Ferris, St Cloud and UMass home before Christmas. Tough !
