Colgate 2012-13

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Defense wins, but even a solid goaltender can't guarantee that. Andy Isles had a tough stretch during the regular season for Cornell and a debacle against Q in the playoffs. Run hot and cold with Mihalik; inconsistent but his defense hung him out to dry more than once; was glad Finney got a shot...would like to see a frosh step up to the plate and reign supreme from Day 1 for 4 years. Maybe Finn will be our go-to man. Special teams started off strong this season but then faded.

Hope we get some new unis next season...not as fond of the C'gate logo. Some good money being raised for Spiro! Auction ends in a few days. What's with a "mini" helmet? I want the real thing!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

it's now 3/26 and I see no favorable add-ons to an incoming class of only SEVEN, yes SEVEN frosh for next year...we lose eight and we do not lose a goaltender...that means, at least at present, 2 less skaters than this year's thin squad...fine, we've got some talent coming in...but frankly, at this point, it doesn't look like a strong first-year class...in other words, things remain the same for Colgate hockey: a limited squad playing it very close to the vest as far as depth (and injuries) goes...as I said before...if several very generous donors and other donors provide the needed funds to build a new rink the least we can ask from those involved in the program (Board of Trustees, President, AD, head coach, assistant coaches, Silver Puck, whatever) is to match that financial commitment with their own respective commitments...frankly, I growing very, very impatient...greasing through a new rink is a part of the solution and NOT THE SOLUTION...wake up folks...this ain't gonna get better until changes are made...perhaps a newly energized and younger Silver Puck Council, a commitment from the Board, our President, and our AD to upgrade (Chun is definitely an upgrade over Roach here), and, perhaps more of a more controversial nature, a change or two in our assistant coaches...DV is no going anywhere and frankly I don't think he should...if he has any weaknesses, loyalty is #1...it's time to shake things up Colgate...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

my guess - hopefully educated - is that the process is slow...frankly, it's not an especially easy sell...I hope everyone around the program can give at least something...IF, in fact, we're c. $4 million short we probably only really need to get to the $2 million mark and they'll give it the green light...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Four mill short was several months ago. Just wondering. Bourdon was released from his ECHL PTO this week, forgot which team.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Price and Larkin both playing in AHL according to hockeydb.com. Four games each with Larkin getting a goal. Prob not current.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Ferris State is the fourth team in the Mariucci Classic. Assuming they don't make us play each other, a couple of good non-cons there.

My sympathies are with you as a 'Gate rooter, but it's time to give it a rest. Write to Herbst et al with these suggestions.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Yale-Minny game today at 2 PM on ESPNU. (...I can't take it that we're on page 2).

Bump

Re: Colgate 2012-13

"time to give it a rest"??? ColSkate65, interesting comment...I would suggest to you that it's time to "give it a rest" as far "happy talk" and foolish optimism goes...are we simply required to only comment on the (few) positives of our program over the last seven years...BTW, I have made my feelings quite clear to the powers that be who have some influence over this below average DI program...some of us deal with reality; others continue to simply believe that everything's OK and "our time" will come...sorry, not here, not now unless we can change things...I have always thought that my alma mater was capable of doing more; it's one reason I chose Colgate over Williams and Davidson...that we were up to the challenges that we do face...if you think ZERO appearances in the ECAC finals in the last 23 years is acceptable, then fine...if you think TWO NCAA appearances in the last 23 years is acceptable, then fine...I don't, and I would hope that most 'Gate grads would agree...if I simply want "news" of our hockey team I can go to a number of websites; they are more than capable of feeding us the BS that I see here every year...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Greeny....It's time to chill a little my friend. As you once told me "you're preaching to the choir here". Time to put things in perspective, this is not the place with any control over the future of Gate hockey. We too, are frustrated about the program, but this is not the place with any influence over the administration. One thing for sure, I hope you are this vehement with our AD or anyone else you have talked too. Maybe we need more like you.

Greencoat - I'm with Shabby. You have to stop beating yourself up over this. There's not much we posters can do; you have to make your feelings known to the admin, the AD, DV, Silver PUck and others in control of the program. I'm as much a 'Gate fan (and alum) as you are, just so you know who I'm pullin' for.

How many saw the Yale game yesterday? Quite a nice win for the Eli. When I see a team do what they did, I wonder if we are capable of turning things on and making a comeback in the playoffs after two straight shutouts in the ECACs? It gives me hope that one day we can "do it like Yale" and take out the Minnesotas and Denvers of the world on the large stage.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Colskate and Shabby...I hear you...I'm just really frustrated...very happy about Yale; have several good friends who are close to their program...they deserved to win and the Miller-D'Agostino-Root line dominated the Cristo line...at this point let's get two (I believe that's going to be the max) ECAC teams in the Final Four...we're close folks, that's what is the real frustration stems from...I believe he can certainly coach...please give him the tools...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Union's on fire right now....looks like a repeat QU-Union meeting tomorrow. Three out of four teams from the east in the FF ain't bad. Take that, CCHA, WCHA, etc. :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I can't understand how Union could look so good - dominant really - and then so mediocre vs QU. Yes, I know QU ( and Pecca) had a lot to do with that, but I was looking forward to a tight, back and forth, high checking game with scoring opportunities for both sides. Whatever....good luck to Yale and QU in Pittsburgh. Says a lot about the quality of talent in the ECAC this season.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Greencoat, this is a Colgate thread. Please lower your standards accordingly.

Oh and Gwozdecky is a free agent? In the words of Don Cherry, LETS GOOOOOOOO

Actually, someone on DU thread posted that Gwoz was heading to the ECAC...anyone think Don's had enough ??

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Also can someone explain to me how a coach with gwozdecky's stats can lose his job after making it to the regional on top of having national championships under his belt while Don keeps his? Unless he's the Jerry Sandusky of the WCHA this is mind bottling.
