Coaching vacancies 2012

Re: Coaching vacancies 2012

More likely to follow the Amherst path I think.
Go with the young asst. coach and see what happens.
It's not as if Knight will be a tough act to follow...and they can always look at Wiley [or do a full scale search] after the season if things don't work out.

I totally agree. Wiley was let go from Colgate. If Colgate felt he failed as a head coach, then what would make him a good fit for Hamilton?? IMO … same academic standards and even harder to recruit as a Hamilton Head Coach since it’s D-3. This late in the game, I’d stick with the young assistant to lead the program … someone familiar, knows the job and who has already earned the trust and respect from the existing players. I hope Hamilton does their homework and makes the right decision

Re: Coaching vacancies 2012

Time will tell. Coach Duggan at Trinity was basically the same age with the same experience when she unexpectedly got the reins there last season and it turned out pretty well for her and the team.

Trinity and Amherst are two completely different programs. Amherst has 2 recent National Championships. That alone is a big role to fill for such young coaches. Duggan at Trinity was stepping into a much different situation. Not to take anything away from Trinity, because they are a very talented and strong team, but the current expectations at Amherst are those of a national powerhouse.

Pairing a first year asst. coach (who was a team member the previous year - certainly an adjustment period with that) and a young head coach together will certainly be interesting to see. Also two female staff members is a change (not good or bad, just different). With that said, it's clear Plumer left behind a great tradition and I'm sure Johnson will take much of what she learned from him and carry it on. Congratulations to them both and best of luck! Routing for you both!

Re: Coaching vacancies 2012

Jeff Pellegrini moves from Harvard to Northeastern, filling the spot vacated by Hillary Witt's move to USA Hockey. (Hope he got a parking pass thrown into his deal!)

Re: Coaching vacancies 2012

Who is going to slide into Harvard now? Angela? Jennifer Botteril? Caitlin Cahow? Someone from the glory years?

Re: Coaching vacancies 2012

Anyone think Hamilton will get around to naming someone something before the season begins???

Re: Coaching vacancies 2012

Hamilton seems totally and completely lost. BK didn't exactly set the world on fire during his tenure...then he leaves the school totally in the lurch by waiting until mid summer to up and leave [and I'm sure did ZERO recruiting the past season]...The program will miss the entire 2013 recruiting class...then will likely have to hire the very young and inexperienced asst. coach for 1 year, then search for and hire a new coach....The program [such as it is] will be set back 3-4 years...I feel sorry for the current players and anyone who had the misfortune of signing on for this fall not knowing what BK was up to.:(

Yea I bet you there lives are so rough at Hamilton college. What a horrible school to be at. The poor players. How will they survive. They took their time with the Men a few years back. They hired a guy named Norm Bazin. He turned out ok. Coaches need to take opening as they come. BK worked hard for Hamilton for 7 seasons.

Agreed. They will be fine. I would guess a new coach will be in place within a few weeks...and not likely to be inexperienced assistant (no disrespect intended).

Sur les rives du lac Ontario

many players have left and so have the other coaches and the head coach wanted out to get to Hamilton but that did not happen either. who ever goes into osu now can foresee becoming a head coach in less than year.

bonne chance mes amis

There is also a new athletic director on the horizon at Oswego.
