Yup, and they're still writing the policies. When they quit writing you'll know their actuaries are saying there's sure loss, no money to be made.

So why the premium jump?
  • Florida median home values have grown by 33.1% over the past year.
  • Over the past five years home values in Florida have increased by over 78%.
Translated: Replacement costs are way up.

Well, other states have the same issues but don't have out of control insurance rates.

But the Republican fever dream state has other problems - https://www.bankrate.com/insurance/homeowners-insurance/florida-homeowners-insurance-crisis/

Insurance fraud in Florida
The biggest issue right now in Florida is home insurance fraud, driven by fraudulent roofing claims. A recent proclamation from the office of Governor Ron DeSantis notes that, although Florida only accounts for 9% of the country’s home insurance claims, it is home to 79% of the country’s home insurance lawsuits. Many of these lawsuits are fraudulent.

The state's unique laws allow for this to happen unchecked.

Even I knew that about Florida and I don’t even work in insurance.

I honestly don’t care if the southern states can’t be insured. Of course it’s fucking expensive to keep building where it keeps getting wiped out. Blue states are sick of paying for this welfare

The Redneck Riviera is gonna experience some things as the years go by and I have my popcorn ready!

The Blue States will bail them out. They know that. They're counting on it. And it will happen.

I don't agree. They aren't counting on anything because they will not acknowledge the problem or that they're even being bailed out. Fox News tells their viewers that blue states are filled with lazy deadbeats, so how could those states possibly be net exporters of federal money? Something something welfare!

That's the voters. They're stupid. Trust me, the people in power know. Reagan knew. They all know.

People in power should definitely not be so doom and gloom. The rest of us though...I mean when the temp in Minneapolis is the same as in Las Vegas (and both are unreasonably humid in context) I think we can all panic a bit. I mean London is now friggin LA and has a fire season and their tarmacs are melting :^o

We can fix it...but to do that you need more than just the majority to understand science. You need the lazy and selfish to be willing to sacrifice. A LOT. Even if we got the US to do such a thing (hah!) half of Asia has no interest and they have billions of people.

COVID was our chance...but Trump and his fuckwits fellators made sure we lost all progress.

I mean I’m panicking but things still need to be done. Whether we do them or not, well.

A recent topic of climate experts is that no one seems to have found the perfect messaging. It’s easy for those with brains, but when so many refuse to care, not sure how you reach them. You generally don’t which is why you focus on the non derp
