Chowder Cup: Any decent prospects?

Re: Chowder Cup: Any decent prospects?

I wasn't counting entering freshman, but current players. And I do agree with you that the bulk of the problem stems from teams playing above their level. However, I think having totally loaded teams like the Polar Stars will result in lopsided scores against a majority of the competition. Limiting the number of current D1 players will help ameliorate that without decreasing the overall competitive level of play...to whit only three D1 players on Team Celine, or four on NAHA-Team Harrow.

Re: Chowder Cup: Any decent prospects?

I think the coaches and programs entering teams in this tournament in AA division should do so expecting to play D1 caliber teams.
And the truly loaded D1 caliber teams should likewise expect to have at least 2 ten goal romps in their round robin, right?

ameliorate [uh-meel-yuh-reyt]

I'll admit it, I had to look it up!

Now that I know what it means, I agree! ;)

Re: Chowder Cup: Any decent prospects?

They played very well for not having had so much as a practice prior, and with so many new members. There were quite a few D1 coaches watching the Shamrocks and inquiring about players. I'm sure the same can also be said of Belle Tire, who also turned heads (and bested the Shamrocks in the quarters).

As to the issue of lopsided scores, I would say that there needs to be an enforced rule in place where a team cannot have more than five D1 players on the team. Of course, you will likely still have some inequity, but it should bring the scores down to single digits.

I think the limit of five D1 players applies to five D1 players from the same college team which would be a violation of NCAA summer activities. I do not think it applies when the players are from from diffeent college teams. Indeed, that made for the "fun" element of playing with friends or peers that you may have previously played against - and why at least some of the D1 college kids I know played for social reasons - obviously since they are already proven rostered D1 players, they are NOT playing to the scouting coaches.

The same thing happens every year about lop sided scores. I for one do not enjoy being on either side of a lopsided score at all - and would like to see more competitive games for the top teams -- It seems a shame and waste that so many really great teams come all this way and only see the top teams in the 30 minute "playoff" games.. For example, I would have prefered watching the Ct. Polar Stars play against NAHA ,the Niagara Vipers and Global Selects instead of their 3 lopsided preliminary games...

I also think now there are more older college age players now, and it might be the right time for an open division for college and older -- for those are too old for CHowdercup next year -- are there any other summer programs/tourneys in the Boston area for the over-18 players??

Would Caitlin Cahow have known that definition without looking it up? :D

How have the "totally loaded" teams done in this tournament historically?

Didn't the Niagra Vipers have a tie in their prelims?

Jr Bruins Vipers game could have gone either way it was decided late. Unfourtunatly for the JR Bruins having the same record in the bracket as the Vipers was not enough. The bracket was decided by the goals for in the bracket ,as the Vipers seem to be more offensivly minded .

My thoughts are there may be other teams out there that can compete it is just how the brackets are put together. The Jr Bruins scored the same Three goals against the Vipers that NAHA did in the finals and the Jr. Bruins gave up one less goal against Vipers. So there are some other goood teams out there that did not make the playoffs.
