Correction: Bowling Green and Lake Superior each have 33 points not 34.

The Minnesota State / Michigan Tech game on FloHockey has the audio horribly out of synch with the video. Audio is WAAAY ahead of the video. Terrible.

About 60 seconds out of synch.

Now it's stuck buffering. FloHockey sucks.

Oh well, I had to back out and restart it, but at least the audio is now synched with the video.

Edit: no it's not, it's just not as badly out.

I wish I could figure flo hockey out. My feed of the Tech game was fine throughout and has been all year, but my feed of the BSU game constantly stopped and re buffered. it became unwatchable after a while, since most of the time was rebuffing anyway. Score was 3-1? when I gave up. I usually watch some atlantic hockey each weekend but didn't try that this week. normally it is fine also.

BTW. I must not understand checking from behind. Tech defenseman has the puck, knocked off the puck and down by Mankato player, from directly behind, who passes to his buddy for an open net goal. That's not a check and it's not from behind? I'm confused I guess.

Crap. Same damn problem as last night, even though I sent a problem notice to FloHockey via their website. When I first start the game, the audio and video is in synch, but very rapidly the audio starts getting ahead of the video, and within a minute or two it's off substantially. I have to keep exiting and restarting it.

Looking at regular season stats, scoring was up overall in the conference. Compared to 2019-20, the last full year, goals per conference game went from 5.42 a game to 6.0. I thought maybe there was a "Tommy Effect" from some lopsided scores, but there were 156 goals in the Tommies' 26 conference games, to give an even 6/game.
What caused an increase of over 10%? Don't know, but there were a lot of outstanding individual performers. There were 12 ppg players in conference games, up from 6 in 19-20, even though we had 2 more teams then.
More talent? Change in playing style? Different refereeing? Statistical anomaly? Less travel fatigue? Whatever, I do think games were more exciting, and less of a slog than previous years.

The CCHA "lost" a lot of very good netminders from last years teams. BGSU, LSSU, and BSU all had goalies Tech struggled with.

I think adding Augustana would be incredibly stupid. Comments?

The table below shows the average travel time between each CCHA member and Augustana/Lindenwood. For Augustana, three teams have trips over 12 hours while 5 teams have at least 10 hour trips when you factor in meal stops. That's a long time to ride a bus. Additionally, we're already digesting one startup, why would we want another one or two? How long would it take for them to become competitive? We all expect the Tommies to be on a short curve in this regard (remains to be seen, of course). What about the revenue/investment side; are they just more mouths to feed (i.e. Huntsville)? Would Lindenwood open up those vast, untapped St. Louis recruiting grounds? Lastly, I think 8 teams in a league is better than 9. Or 10. So put me down in the "Hard 'No' for now" column, but I'm just a fanboy so what do I know.

What I found interesting is that Ferris and BG are roughly equidistant from Chicagoland so road trips with the Minnesota schools take about the same amount of time.

The only way these two schools make sense if the CCHA wants to go with two divisions. Augustana makes geographic sense from the MN school standpoint. Lindenwood, from a potential market (St. Louis) standpoint. Those 2 reasons are not enough for me to add new, unproven schools*. If the CCHA did add them, it would put us back to where the WCHA 2.0 was, all day trips and 3-4 bottom feeders at least for a few years.

*St Thomas gets a pass because of geography, have a solid sports track record, have a broad financially committed fanbase, hired a name head coach who has had success, and provide all the benefits of The Twin Cities.

If the CCHA was going to expand, I would hold out for Miami and then consider Augustana. That would involve re-alignment which is a whole other can of worms.

Let them go independent for a couple of years. See how it works out for them, as well as how the rest of college hockey shakes out. I still have to think Miami would be a much better CCHA fit, and it almost has to happen, doesn't it?

I pointed out on SiouxSports that the Nachos could do a straight up trade Mankato-for-Miami State and get all the benefits:
o Immediate improvement on leaguewide PWR as they lose the Miami State boat anchor
o Consolidation of their geographic footprint
o Vastly improved revenue opportunities for the Frozen Faceoff (Mankato will travel well to the event, comparatively, Miami State never will, even if they eventually make it there which they won't)

I'm not saying I/we want to get rid of you guys, far from it. Just pointing out some +/-'s

The benefits aren't quite the same on our side of the ledger:
o Plus: Miami State doesn't get boat raced every week and has a chance to rebuild a program with a coach who has rebuilt this kind of program in a similar league
o Plus: BG gets an in-conference rival (finally!, but nobody else really cares)
o Plus: Someone else gets a chance to win some league hardware
o Minus: Leaguewide PWR takes a hit and jeopardizes our ability to continue being a 2-bid league
o Minus: Bemidji-to-Oxford is a haul
o Minus: Houghton-to-Oxford is a haul, though they did it for a time back in the 80's
o Plus: The entire college hockey metaverse will purchase a monthly Flo subscription for the Fighting Ricos first trip to Oxford. No one wants to miss THIS one!

Another plus on the move would be I am only 90 miles from Miami of Ohio, vs my current nearest CCHA School, Bowling Green, which is about 300.

I'm not in favor of taking anyone or losing anyone. I think our league is just finally getting going. IF we were to add I would want to add WMU and Miami at the same time. But really it's a ways for most of the present schools to go down there so why do it. For one team aka BGSU you can live with it.

how do you convince NMU, Tech, St Thomas and Bemidji to vote for this swap? What’s in it for them?

Nothing is in it for them. It's not a move anyone would support at face value. I wasn't advocating for this scenario, only pointing out that if you think about it Mankato has more value to the Nachos than Miami State does.

I don't think anyone wants Mankato to leave, but I'm curious if Mankato still covets a move to the Nachos.

I would guess that the Nachos probably are looking at St. Thomas and Augustana, once they both get established, and seeing what they can do. Both are in large media markets in the Midwest, both building brand new buildings. If they can get their teams up and winning, they could be poachable.
